the tone when she dips into her low notes is so pleasant and soothing. I usually like very high-pitched female voices, but her lower voice is beautiful, even kind of hot.

By far the best version of this song

Prefer Tom Clancy's version, of the Clancy Brothers, myself.

Both versions come at the song from a slightly different angle. So I really cannot disagree with you.

As I was goin' to the fair of Dingle One fine mornin' last July A fine young man came up behind me "Red-haired Mary!" he did cry "Will you come with me, my red-haired Mary? The donkey, he can carry two" I looked at him, my eyes did twinkle My cheeks, they were a rosy hue "Thank you kindly, sir" I answered Then I tossed my light red hair Says I "Will you hold the donkey? And I'll ride with you to the Dingle fair" And when we reached the town of Dingle He caught my hand to say goodbye When a tinker, he pulled up behind him Hit him right in his left eye "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" Well, he was feelin' very peevish His poor eye was sad and sore He kicked the tinker with his hobnails Knocked him through Tom Murphy's door He galloped off to meet his father The tallest man you e'er did see Tapped him gently with his knuckles And now he's missing two front teeth Oh, wasn't I the happy cailín? "Man, with you I'll go!" I said "Never mind the priest this very morn Tonight we'll sleep in Murphy's shed!" "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" Around the corner came a peeler Told him I had broke the law Donkey kicked him on the knee He fell down and broke his jaw Through the fair we rode together His black eye and my red hair Gazing gaily at the tinker Weren't we the happy pair? "Take your hands off red-haired Mary! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!" "Will ya take your hands off red-haired Mary?! She and I are to be wed! We were with the priest this very morn! Tonight, we'll lie in our marriage bed!"

I've seen Dervish a couple of times in concert, and Cathy Jordan captured the audience better than anyone else I've seen. I swear that woman has leprechaun blood. She defines personality.

Melquisedec Mary I've never met one (as far as I know) but I gather they come in various of forms. They don't all wear hats. The name you post under is intriguing. Is it real? Is it a Florida thing?

I'm fairly certain the harp (aka harmonica) came to be a standard part of celtic music in the 20th century.It's not indigenous to the Irish or the celts, but it fits in nicely with the traditional reed and pipe instruments. :)
@JohninRosc11 жыл бұрын
Cathy Jordan is, in my opinion, one of the best singers in the world. She has a mystique to her voice that I've never heard anywhere else. The harmonica player is Rick Epping.

@KingdomUploader harp(harmonica) has been used in celtic tunes for a very long time. One of the first tunes I learned on harmonica was "The Blarney Pilgrim". I don't know exactly when it was introduced to the Irish, but there's a big repertoire for it, so I assume the Irish have been at it a good while. :)

@KingdomUploader Though it's not used very much, the harmonica is considered traditional by Comhaltas, there's a category for it at the Fleadhanna too.

well, I dare say you were the best thing ever your first few years on the road hungry in small bars and we all danced drunk and happy and felt as one. What the hell is with the people sitting and clapping in their seats? I know its hard, but screw the cash and go back underground, its not too late! Love! : ) (should you happen to read

Dervish ye would make a body dance from inside, Cathy Jordan sings with a Quality from another world & time perhaps the underworld Fearie she is, her musical vocals are a treat to the ears, a Musical Maestro Band out there with their own style.
@heavenlyboy3411 жыл бұрын
Harmonica is not a traditional Irish instrument, but it's easy to play Irish tunes on them, so trad bands employ them often. :) (I play harp myself)
@switchitoff111 жыл бұрын
The harmonica practically plays itself on songs like "Red Haired Mary".It lends itself to the natural suck/blow/pause nature of Celtic music.Anyway,great rendition.

What a fine surprise to find this; rhm is one of my top three fav songs by them. i love that you posted this; its a great live performance. Dervish was my first exposure to celtic. Is the harmonica played on any other tune? it's not traditional is it? Thanks again and know that you have unsurpassable worth! Live long and prosper, even as your soul prospers. kevin

Sacrificing feeling for speed. An awful version. Not a patch on the Makem & Clancy version! Cathy Jordan might be better off as an auctioneer if speed is her thing :-)
@JoeBoone823 жыл бұрын
More likes on her version than the old one. All art is subjective and I guess this is just Cathy's way of doing the song. It does not mean it is better or worse, just a different style for a different audience (or for people like me who enjoy both!).
