DES and JOHNNY KELLY 'MARY OF THE WILD MOOR' 1970 (Capitol Showband)

Tales of tragedy are a common theme for broadside ballads known as 'old folk ballads'.'Mary From The Wild Moor' treats a topic well known from literature, The girl with child-sometimes illegitimate-is betrayed by her husband or lover, returns home to her father on a cold winter's night and tragedy occurs. This is an excellent and VERY RARE cover of this old early nineteenth century ballad by the late Kelly brothers, Des and Johnny, who founded the great Irish 'Capitol Showband' in 1960.This video presentation is for educational purposes and social commentary only. Yes, unfortunately, there are so many stories of women being shunned and ostracized throughout history because of getting pregnant. Joasha...I think Des had left the Capitol Show when he recorded this with his brother. I actually spent a night in the company of Des & his wife and friends in the summer of 1970 in a place called Sitges in Spain.
