Recorded in Vicar St. in 2003, this was the routine that really got my career going. Reposting it because the version that was up wasn't great quality.

I left the immersion one time and then went on holiday. I came home to an electric bill for a 1000 euro! Leaving the immersion on is no subject for levity.

I’ve lived in the States for 25 years and totally forgot about the immersion. Dying laughing 🤣 so true!

Shaking with fear.....spent my childhood terrified I'd left the immersion on & it had cost us fortune!! Today, age 48, I turn it on as quietly as possible! I have this image in my head as I flick that switch, of all the little ears downstairs pricking up at the sound!! Des, ya legend!👊☘You could spend your whole career doing gigs solely on Irish life! #Déisegirl

This always makes me laugh, Its gonna blow, actually reminds me of my Nana. Left the immersion on by accident (teenager didnt know/care). That womans aim with a slipper I'll never forget scared me shitless. Loved her all the more for it 😂😢😂 ......... Still double check hot press in my 40s tho

I remember pissing myself laughing when I first saw this routine back in the day. So relatable for any Irish person of a certain vintage. Went to see you in the TLT in Drogheda too. The show about your Dad. What an innovative, funny and touching tribute to him that was. Loved every minute of it.

I'm Irish. My partner is American. She likes a shower, I like a bath, so when we book Air B'n'Bs in Dublin, it's a f*cking thing. Usually the hosts program the timer on the immersion to heat for an hour in the morning, so I have to go into Edward Snowden deep hacker-mode to re-programme the immersion timer for at least three hours of heating in the morning. What's even worse is that my own house has both an immersion and gas water heating. She was losing her mind with the complexities of the situation, so I just had a plumber install an electric shower in her bathroom that would heat the water on demand. Women.
