Join George and John as they discuss and debate different Philosophical ideas, today they will be continuing the discussion on Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy and looking into the second mediation entitled “Of the Nature of the Human Mind; and that it is more easily known than the Body.”
Descartes finished the first Mediation in a state of universal doubt, where he doubted the reliability of the senses and all the knowledge gained from the senses. From this Descartes then doubted the existence of the physical world along with his physical body. Now Descartes questions where he should doubt the existence of himself, should he doubt that he is a living being.
The questions that will be examined, what we do we mean by saying we exist? Is there a distinction between body and mind? Should the senses play a role in attaining knowledge or should all knowledge derive from the mind.
