Weirdly, one of my favorite moments in this is when one of the VKs is eating berries and is so enthused because there is something good to eat just lying around, when in the island there is nothing and you have to scrounge to survive. The descendant he is talking to (I think son of Jafar) realizes how much better he has it since coming to Auradon, and that he's been taking it for granted. They plan to go exploring together once the kingdom is saved. I thought it was a moment with weight in a mostly frothy movie. I also can't overlook the fact that the whole "There are good and bad guys on both sides of the wall" speech was put into a movie while the whole "we're going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it" stuff was going on. It was blunt but she wasn't wrong.

I have a problem with this "everyone is asleep" thing because in a nice place like whatever this place is called, there must be people swimming in pools and the beach and stuff. So what happens to them? they drown? And also what if someone is cooking and/or the stove is on? sharp objects? Or they're climbing a roof or something and the spell is cast and they fall? Maybe small correction, according to the lore of the franchise, only evil magic doesn't work on the Island. Which explains, why the blonde hair spell on Mal didn't disappeared when she went back to the Island in the second movie. Which also explains, why the Wand wouldn't have worked when they tried to destroy the barrier. Since they had bad intentions to do it, even if the Wand would have been real, it wouldn't have worked. And since the spell on Mal which turned her into a grandma is a evil spell, when she entered the Island it disappeared.

1 Audrey was a bully long before the VKs arrived at Aurodon. 2 Audrey broke up with Ben after Ridiculous (She declared "I'm dating Chad now!") 3 She was essentially in a political relationship with Ben, when she references her grievances in her soliloquy it is all about the power and who is queen and not once is Ben mentioned as a person. Further, Audrey does not show any sign of respect for Ben as a person while they were dating. Instead she derides his decisions, places emphasis on his title when he introduces himself without it and antagonises his guests. 4 We are even told directly that she is a rather plastic person, all about the appearance but without much substance behind it. She shows no sign at that point of actually understanding what it means to be good, only how to superficially not appear evil.

To be honest I felt like Audrey being the villain was a good concept, it makes sense why she would be the villain, but there was no build up to in. In the first movie she was upset for a bit, but then she got with Chad and was all hunky dory at the end, in the second movie she wasn’t even there, and now in the third movie she’s the main villain. I feel like the second movie should’ve shed at least SOME light on Audrey and her anger for Mal taking Ben away from her. Like I said Audrey being the villain makes perfect sense but the lack of build up to that point made it seem forced.

i agree. aubrey as the villain made sense. it was just poorly executed. she has the motives to be the villain. she obtains the power, but it was all so poorly executed afterwards. when chad was begging to be spared and that he'd be her minion, i was totally expecting her to turn him into a crow, which was maleficent's pet/minion. was disappointed when she didn't use him for anything. not even to throw off the vks. she could've sent chad to trick the vks and send them on a wild goosechase . her turning ben into the beast was a good call, that's something we had gotten hints before, like when uma and mal were fighting at the end of d2. celia being aubrey's hostage made no sense. we know nothing of this girl, except she was doing favors for hades. i think drizzy being the hostage would've made much more sense, because there had already been a relationship established with her. uma was also severely underutilized in this. she had ursula's magic shell, and all she used it for was to make mal's spells stronger

I agree. I actually thought Hades was going to be the main villain. Maybe Dr. Facilier. But we have all of ONE scene with Dr. Facilier and for Hades, he had the secret father/daughter relationship with Mal....he got the best song in the movie.....he could have been the big villain and Audrey could have been the secondary. Instead, we get TWO SCENES with Hades, one where he fights his daughter for a minute and one where he sings at her about her daddy issues and then he vanishes until the end of the movie.

A few things that don't make sense that you never mentioned... Ben and Mal were already engaged in the LAST movie so this is the second time he's proposed to her. Like most of the plot of the second movie revolved around Mal being stressed out because she didn't think she could handle being queen because they were already engaged. Now in this movie they're engaged again instead of starting the movie with a wedding which would of made more sense. Also Dizzy had already gotten an invite to attend school in Oradon at the end of the last movie but in this movie they tell her again and she acts surprised as if she didn't already get that invitation. On top of that once the new kids get to Oradon they're almost immediately written out of the rest of the movie and contribute NOTHING to the plot of this thing. Why is so much of the set up for this movie stuff that had already been established in the second movie that ends up having nothing at all do with the plot of this movie. You established this stuff twice and then did NOTHING with any of it! I feel like 3 would have been a much better movie if it started with Ben and Mal actually getting married, then focused on the new characters for the rest of the movie. Descendants kind of got worse in the sequels because the first movie is actually OK, the second movie is just a repeat of the exact same plot of the first movie except with Uma instead of Malifecint as the main villain, and then 3 is literally just repeating events we already saw and then contradicting all that stuff that had already been establish. Even the girl playing Evie felt like she was phoning in her performance the entire movie. Like she was actually trying for the first two but for this one she delivers every line like she's reading off her phone. The guy who plays Hades kind of makes this movie worth it though, like he's the only one who seems to be having any fun in this movie... well maybe also Audre but her turn to villain, considering how mean she was in the first movie was kind of predictable so I just don't care. Hades though, give it up for that guy putting in a great performance for a role in a terrible movie. He instantly steals every scene he's in and I just want more of him as Hades. Honestly I would love to see him actually get to interact with the woman who played Maleficent in the first movie. There was some bonus thing they did where he hosted an event in character as Hades so we do get to see more of him outside this movie. I don't enjoy him as much as the voice actor who actually played Hades in the Hercules movie but I do really like the live action re-imagining. Also... considering Hades and Zeus are Brothers, are we just never going to address the fact that Hercules is Mal's cousin? Mal might be a "villain kid" but I think she's the only one who could also be directly related to more heroic characters. I think they kind of mention how Cinderella is technically Dizzy's aunt but her mother is Cinderella's STEP sister so no direct blood relation there. Zeus and Hades are actual blood relatives which means Hercules is Mal's cousin. Mal is a freaking Demi-God who can also perform Magic and turn into a dragon and all Hercules got was super strength?

You seem to be misremembering what was said, in Descendants 2 the big event was Cotillion which was an engagement to be several other engagements before they are actually engaged to be married. Jane explains it to Mal while Mal has blonde hair in Descendants 2. Also Uma is potentially related to Ariel, but I don't know how canonical they are intending that thread to be. Regardless that is also another potential relation for an Aurodon kid to a VK through Poseidon's son Triton.
