In my opinion, there probably should not have even been any time travel. sure it would have been darker with Cinderella's mom being dead, but couldn't they have just waited until nighttime to sneak into the museum and use maleficent's sceptor to stop the queen of hearts. I know red didn't know about it, but maybe uma or fairy godmother could have told her where all the magic stuff is, then they use it to stop the queen of hearts and lock her away.

There was so obviously a HUGE chunk of the movie that got cut. At the START OF THE MOVIE they were already setting up a storyline about cinderella feeling guilty about something she must’ve done to bridget, and bridget decided to take revenge on her by executing her BECAUSE WHY ELSE WOULD SHE EXECUTE HER BEST FRIEND IF SHE DID NOTHING??? Also, obviously Uliana would’ve gotten detention even if red and chloe didn’t show up, so it was so clearly meant to be revealed to be someone else doing the prank at castlecoming. This movie wasn’t supposed to end when it did. It would’ve been a lot better with an extra 30 minutes runtime omg this makes me so upset!

I think it was the right length, we just got too much exposition for the wrong plot. After ~ 20-30 minutes I was wondering when the time travel would happen and when the kids would go to school. I was expecting more emphasis the kids’ stories (like before) not so much on the parents’ stories. The point was to change the parents’ lives but the kids didn’t change at all in the process. Red sort of had one moment of doubt but she was more hurt than questioning if she’s like her mother because she already knew she’s not.

I would make a small change that would make it make more sense: what if the villains trick Ella into opening the book? This would get around the curse, show how smart and cunning the villains are, and explain why the queen of hearts is so hostile to Cinderella. In her mind, her best friend betrayed her! Then when Red and Chloe go to get it, it freezes Red and Chloe needs to take the initiative showing them working together and covering for each other weaknesses.

I have a theory that in the original timeline, uliana wasn't the one that pranked Bridget, it was Ella. Because uliana wasn't gonna execute her plan anyway and what actually happened is that Ella was the one to do the prank. And when they came back in time Chloe broke the vase in Ella's house so she got grounded and couldn't attend the Castlecoming so she didn't execute the plan. Throughout the whole ass movie i noticed that the queen of hearts low-key blamed Cinderella plus Ella was giving Bridget quite some attitude like she's annoyed and jealous of her.

So, did 10 years go by between the last movie and the 2021 animated special Descendants: The Royal Wedding (which I still haven't seen by the way since I didn't know it existed until someone else on YT mentioned and that apparently ends with a scene that will eventually lead up to this movie), because I don't think 10 years have gone by. It would have made sense for them to say Auradon was created 21 years indicating that a year had gone by since the events of last movie and perhaps a few weeks or so after The Royal Wedding.

I'm surprised you didn't mention how this movie completely screws up the timelines. Within the first 3 movies, it is heavily implied they take place after the og Disney movies (Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, etc.). But apparently, all of the Disney characters were already going to school together, the villains who have collectively murdered thousands were just high school bullies, and Cinderella met Prince Charming at a high school dance, not a ball. Also, did anyone else wonder why the Queen of Hearts wasn't on the Isle? She was a villain, and Red is even called a VK. So why does she get to keep her kingdom and royal status while Hades, a literal god, gets imprisoned?

I bet in story context to the descendants universe With castlecoming drawing near, Cinderella of course would be forbidden to go to the royal “ball” by her step family and would be forced to stay home even while she pled her case with how she did everything but would go to end up with nothing. And maybe Fay would’ve somehow accidentally teleported to Ella’s home when practicing her magic. She would foresee Ella’s true feelings about how her unfairness to go to the ball and how she would never get the chance to do something like this again, she decided she help her. So with drawing up her wand she would make mistakes with making a carriage and dress which would’ve made her feel depressed seeing how she is still so terrible. But I imagine Ella would encourage her to not give up, she knows she trying to do a miracle for her and while she can’t do much with magic, she would become Fay’s friend in the process of them making a beautiful display, with a coach, glass shoes and a stunning dress. Fay would be happy but worried about the magic lasting and suggest the idea Ella leave the ball before midnight and from there it’s history Ella being banned from going to school after Lady Tremaine discovered Ella broke her absolute rule not to go; while Charming deeply in love with Ella (maybe unsure of her identity because of Fay’s magic) and proposes the slipper fitting to search for his true love. And upon discovering it was Ella after reaching her home the two would officially date and Ella would escape her continued torment of being a denatured servant in her own home by her step family

From what I've gathered, in the original timeline, Uliana had Ella open the book, which is how she betrayed Bridget. But since Red had the book, Uliana completely forgot the book was enchanted and just opened it.

I think in the original timeline, Ella was nearby the principal's office at the time Ulianas gang attempted to steal the book. They put a spell on Ella so that she can open the book which is why they were able to play the prank on Bridget. But because Red and Chloe were trying to find that same book, Uliana got distracted and forgot about the curse in the book and just opened it impulsively. However Chloe broke the vase back at the evil stepmother's house, causing Ella to get grounded, which explains why she wasn't there at the scene. And Chloe didn't exist in the original timeline, meaning that Ella wasn't grounded in the original timeline, making it possible that she was present at the scene. This all explains why Bridget was so mad at Ella, causing a rivalry between the two. That's my thoughts but still I really wish Disney actually gave us answers to what exactly happened.

Yeah that’s the thing I don’t get. If queen of hearts stayed good. I’d assume her daughter would’ve already been enrolled in the school because beast would have never casted her away. And if beast did cast her away, doesn’t that give the queen of hearts a reason to turn evil again? An explanation I came up with is that it rewrote the part where she imprisons them and thats where the new timeline officially takes place regardless of everything else. The thing that is the most confusing, is why the queen of hearts was so nonchalant about her daughter disappearing. Because if the future is still running while they are in the present; why hasn’t she questioned why her daughter suddenly disappears right in front of her eyes? And then why, when we get to the end, did she not question why her daughter was not sitting next to her? Because I’m pretty sure they walked together, there is no point in time where the new red would’ve broken apart from her mother to go do something else. Realistically, Red would’ve been sitting right next to her mother. The only reason I could think of why red isn’t there is because they needed time to build up queen of hearts reveal. So that she can show that her dress was different. That… Or it just further proves my theory of the timeline is correct.

Sure he's still born but his parents are different. And he still ends up being the same person because he was the one who traveled back in time. I read a theory that it was Ella who accidentally or deliberately pranked Bridget, since the only thing they changed in the past is that they made Ella's stepmom ground her after Chloe broke that vase, so she couldn't go to Castlecoming. Then, they thought they altered the future by stopping Uliana and her crew, when what really happened is that they prevented Ella from going out that night and pranking Bridget. I honestly think it would have made a better twist and it would have made more sense in regards to Bridget's drastic change, because not only she would have been humiliated in front of everyone, but she would have been betrayed by her only friend.

It has to have been Ella or someone else that is viewed as “good” because if not. Their message of how, most people don’t live in food or evil but instead in the moral gray. gets thrown out the window. On a writing standpoint that would be a poor move. My guess is that it will get revealed who the real perpetrator was, and hint hint. It won’t be a villan. I guess the only reason they made the ending what it was, was for all of the kids watching to have a happy ending.

Nope.The climax abruptly gets resolved once the villans got frozen and they assume they fixed everything. They didn’t even try staying to make sure it wasnt anyone else who did it. People suspect it wasn’t a villan and was actually somebody else and that the writers are saving that reveal for the last movie. But if that’s the case, wouldn’t it have been better if it ends with them staying in the time line or something?

I gotta say this; You can't save your parents. That's a hard HARD lesson I had to learn as an adult who, as a child, felt I had to rescue my mom and dad, but _I can't save them._ It's NOT your job, *you're just a **_child,_* You are not responsible for your parents. CHILDREN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PARENTS! _Parents are often grown adults who probably have more options than they feel they do, but get blinded by their own BS and end up taking it out on their family._ It took me becoming a grown adult to realize that the lessons they taught me about being afraid of the world and that I'd be _trapped_ if I made one mistake was BS. The first descendants movie was honestly pretty good about being a fun children's movie showing _children recognizing and breaking the cycle of abuse,_ and not letting their parent's baggage override their existence and dictate their own lives. Red *_saving_* her mom without her knowledge or will, erasing her formative childhood trauma to just _switch her out with a mom who never went through the 'bad thing' that 'made her bad' is just... It's gross to me and I don't like it. (I know it's kind of a cliffhanger, but still.) A good example of a fairytale-esqu adventure where a child seeks to save and redeem their evil parent; _Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi._ He didn't drag his dad back to the lightside kicking and screaming or by tricking him. Instead, He inspired him and showed him the path back, but Anakin/Vader HAD walk down that path _himself._ HE had to actively choose to stand up to Palpatine to redeem himself. Because _children can't save adults/parents from their own choices._

they even explored this in Descendants 3 with Mal and Hades! Parents have to live with the consequences of their actions and this has an impact on their children. Hades left Maleficent when Mal was a baby and because of this Mal wanted no contact with him. Hades had to make actual efforts to prove he had changed and this allowed him to improve their relationship. If they really do want to go with this, they could go for a Brigit finds out about Red messing with the timeline and that betrayal makes her even worse than before storyline. Or they could have Red still have the characteristics she originally possessed and this causes family tension since her mum would have no idea why since they messed up the timeline. Some of the ideas are good but the way they do it sucks.

It feels like the second act of this movie was just completely cut out. I was expecting a big scene at castle coming where Red and Chloe fail to stop the prank and Ella laughs with Charming instead of comforting her friend. + with Ella being grounded i figured it would be a quick retelling of the Cinderella story with Fairy Godmothers inexperience with magic leading to the "ends at midnight" rule. Then they end up back in the present, Bridget has a valid reason to hate her only real friend, and there is a big emotional conclusion with apologies. I was super confused when the movie was wrapping up because the big end battle felt so low stakes.

Other plothole I've noticed from the movie other than the one you mentioned about the hexed cookbook, is that there's a scene where red and chloe used the looking glass to look at how their original timeline is doing, which is weird because.. did nobody notices that red & chloe is missing in that timeline? Somehow the worst thing about this movie is that it changes ALL of the lore While it was believable that AFTER all of the Disney movies' storylines happened the Beast somehow managed to unify all kingdoms and cast all of the villains out, and then the world modernized so they sent all their kids to highschool like it was our real word, by making these kids go back to the past and showing that this school structure already existed they're basically telling us all of the stories of their parents as we know them aren't part of their world That means we went from knowing all of their parents, story, motivations, development etc to knowing absolutely nothing

12:46 actually it’s more likely that Chloe and Red went to the even more ancient time of the early 90s. This is easily proven if you go back to the first movie (which takes place in 2015) when Mal explains that the villains have been trapped on the Isle of the Lost for 20 years, meaning they were locked up in 1995. It was also mentioned in the movie that the isle was established as a type of prison by Belle and Beast after their wedding which (if going off of the Beauty and the Beast movie) means they got married when they both were 21. Now in this movie we can assume that Bridget, Ella and the rest are either in 11th or 12th grade (based on appearance) that puts them in the 16-18 age range. Once you do some simple math and back track their ages you’re left with any year between 1989 and 1991. To try and put it simply: 11th grade: 16-17, 1989-1990 school year 12th grade: 17-18, 1990-1991 school year Thank you for coming to my Ted talk!😂😅

Right time travel is supposed to be unpredictable and you can’t change the past that’s what we learned in Alice through the looking glass so why did everything end so well and also how does the mother not remember her own daughter from the past

No memorable songs? Wow that’s crazy when it’s pretty much the reason why the descendants franchise was so popular. The songs were so good and catchy. Songs like Good to be Bad, Ways to be Wicked, Rotten to the Core, Space Between, Evil Like Me, It’s Going Down, You and Me, Night Falls and so much more I can’t remember lol

In my opinion, the villain songs were pretty catchy when you give em a chance. "Love aint it" and "Perfect Revenge" are some of my favorites.

They're trying so hard to be Once Upon a Time, I swear. Edit: Because I got 2 comments saying this and I'm an encyclopedia of useless Disney knowledge: The first book of Disney's Descendants "The Isle of the Lost" came out in May 2015, the movie Descendants came out on JULY 2015, OUAT premiered in 2011, and because I'm feeling silly, EVER AFTER HIGH came out in 2013. The argument "it came from the books" means nothing to me, and it makes no chronological sense. Also, I remember the ads in between the movie premiere telling the kids to buy the book so I doubt it wasn't a scheme to release the two so closely.
