There was this canceled show called Disney's House of Mouse, and 70% of Disney characters showed up, from Aladdin, Flounder, Mulan's dad, Simba and Nala(what's wired is that they were kids, and then adults as I keep watching it) and so on. Even the villains, which most of them died

The reason why Ever After High worked where descendents failed story and character wise was that EAH showed that both sides were flawed and weren't afraid to have their leads to be flawed and even have their selfish moments Take Raven and Apple for example, while Raven does mean well to let people choose who they want to be and is selfless, she doesn't fully understand the consequences such as the faries disappearing, not to mention this all started cause she wanted to change her own fate, it doesn't make her a bad person, but it allows her to have flaws. While Apple could've easily been the cliche spoiled brat that would eventually become the main villain and do the whole 'oh the hero of the story is actually a villian' like what they did with Audrey, but they showed that she's genuinely a kindhearted person who cares for Raven, but also allows her to be a flawed character and even have her selfish moments but the series calls her and Raven out on it and they both learn from their mistakes and grow as characters along with the others Thats what I loved about EAH, unlike descendents where it tried to paint one side wrong and the other right. EAH had the guts to show that there wasn't a right or wrong side, it wasn't black and white, Raven and Apple had motivations that could been seen as both selfless but also selfish. Apple was selfish because she wanted to secure her own happy ending and unintentionally ignoring her friends who's stories aren't as happy as hers, but selfless because she genuinely believed that she was protecting everyone and doing the right thing. Raven was selfless cause she wanted everyone to be able to choose their own destiny, but was selfish because she was motivated by her own self interest and was willing to put everyone's life in danger so she could get a happy ending for herself. The fact that a web series made to sell dolls had a much more deep and nuance message then what disney has been making in the past few years really says something

Also I’ve always felt that they were more of a parody of the fairytales more than an expansion of them, and it’s so hard for me to believe that canon Cinderella who was known for her kindness would raise that Chad dutchbag or that the first character to have a hair make over was the Mulan daughter whom talked about making cookies as a family, not even making a Chinese dish or something, they redeem her somehow in the second movie where she was into sports and sword fighting but in the first one they could replace her for literally any other princess rather than Mulan, and also the suspension of disbelief that the ages of the characters are all weird, like Evil Queen was stepmother of Snow White and Evie her bio daughter so why we didn’t saw Snow White anywhere ? Or the fairy godmother that was too young to be from Cinderella, or that the villains should be way older cuz Jafar, Maleficent and Evil Queen were way older than the heroes of their stories and they put them as the same generation of now parents of the teens.

@@quangamershyguyyz7166 I don't say that they are supposed to be for adults, but the quality in an children movie is the one which can be recognised by adults too which is why series such as SpongeBob Squarepants, avatar the last airbender or movies such as the lion king, shrek 2 or puss in boots the last wish ended up being so successful for children movies. Children are children they take everything because they don't know it better. It's not about making children movies for adults, but actually making good movies in general which can enjoyable for every audience.

What gets me is that the daughter of a good guy despite turning evil was easily forgiven? Even though they give life imprisonment to people who don't deserve it and their kids? So what would happen if a good guy was the child of a bad guy, would they still be sent to the island? Like it hasn't happened in a Disney movie but it's actually a pretty common trope so what would they do? What if a villain was redeemed do they go too? Because I remember the step sister from Cinderella getting redeemed in the sequel(s) so what's up with that? If you steal an apple because you are dying for hunger do you get sent there too? Also they brought back from the dead literal murderers just to imprison them. That's a stupid idea no matter how you look at it. Anyways Ever After High was better.

Freddy, Jordan, and Allie were nonexistent in the movies, which was really sad. It would have been so cool to see what they did with Genie magic in live action. Plus they also cut out the storyline with Jane's magic. There should have been scenes where Mal was tutoring her and she gradually got control over it and helped out with fights.

Similar here, though my petty reasons were a mix of it being live-action, part of the "excess crossover" era of Club Penguin (2014-2017), and seeming almost too typical-teencom for a Villain-series. Disney overfed Club Penguin with promos when it wasn't meant to be so- and even with the earlier crossovers, like the Island Fruit Party, Marvel 2012, Music Jam 2012, it felt like a tribute. I did feel a little disappointed trying to watch Shake It Up and seeing no episode acknowledge the Club Penguin crossover. Also, wouldn't Maleficent's kid have greenish skin? Uma's have purple accents?

@@amesstarline5482 I feel like this, in concept, would be a little weird, marketing-wise; while I'm a Disney fan for life, taking "kids' movies" and marketing it to teens but still making it PG didn't make it feel like it had a clear audience. I'm game for Disney making a PG-13-inspired fairytale series (kinda like OUAT, but less repetitive and being more for young adults than tweens), albeit with original content rather than it deriving from their animated films; being too violent, sexual, or prpfane could damage the image. And I never saw Ursula, but Maleficent and Hades had normal skin here, so I can see why Mal had normal skin as well.

The difference with those kings was that their predecessor had to DIE first before they inherited the throne, and even then, they had regents if they were too young, rather than the current king outright handing power to their minor son and expecting him to rule while the more experienced ruler is still alive

Mal is a Mary Sue No other way to put it. She is the clasic, "I have bad parents and i was a bused and or stuff" but we never see much of that. She also is a terrible person to many of the people she meets. She cursed ben in the first movie (Which should have been an immediate red flag in their relationship). Most of the conflicts are spun by someones grudge against her. It just causes problems. But I agree the songs are catchy. The third movie had a few good ones, Specifically Queen of mean and Do what you gotta do.

The worse thing about it is that disney decedents was one of the key factors in Ever After High getting cancelled. Ever After High was fantastic. As for how they were successful, I can only think a campy movie for kids is enjoyable. Honestly my bestie loves them and I am just watching them while playing drinking games.

But let’s talk about that because yes Audrey turns into the villain in the 3rd one to show that like evil can come from anywhere which is kind of interesting but is that really the first time that’s ever happened?? Books were good so that probably carried it and I genuinely liked it because books were good. Yeah it’s a bit rough but I’ve genuinely seen much worse with better scripts better budgeting and even better actors. It could always improve and there will always be low points. I will say some of the animation shorts are pretty good but genuinely you can get away with a lot more in animation. Truth be told it might be better if they redid it in the future but just animated it that would fix a good bit of the issues you brought up.

MY problem is that none of the movies look like sequels, they drop story plots or anyything slightly canon on the previous films and throw it under the magical carpet. o mean, final movie, mal´s father is out and about and her mother is still a lizard. i REALLY wanted to see maleficent and hades fighting or even getting remairred. serioulsy , the last wedding should´ve been the re marriying of hades and maleficent, two actual adults, instead of a couple of high schoolars who just got away with the legal age thing bc they are royalty

I think decentents is a laughable terrible masterpiece lol. Yeah these movies in many respects are bad. But I actually like the story and how ridiculous it is. I love but also hate all at the characters same time. I can see there is huge fan base for the franchise it so entertaining in a weird way that leaves me laughing and smiling at the end of every film these some how work and I just love it. I love the movies, especially the songs. But the writing for the plot isn’t great. Instead of only having one kingdom where former, King and Queen, Beauty and the Beast, and later on Ben rule over I think it would’ve been better if there were multiple kingdoms that went to the same school. Like a Disney Royal school. It also would’ve been interesting if we saw some of the villain kids going to school in their island. It would be cool to see what villain schools taught villain kids, for example; if they taught them how to lie, steal etc. It would’ve been a nice contrast to what they learn in Auradon. Instead of Ben becoming king, it would’ve been better if we saw him being crowned as a crown prince and learning how to rule. Instead of Mal giving Ben a magic cookie to make him fall in love with her. It would’ve been nicer if she tried to make him fall in love with her in normal ways, and eventually they do fall in love with each other for real. Instead of Audrey being mad at Mal, (But to be honest it does make sense why she was mad at Mal. She had worked her entire life to become the queen, and the only way to become queen seems to be marrying Ben because there only seems to be one kingdom.) it would’ve been nicer if Audrey had an older sister that was going to become queen in their kingdom and Audrey was jealous of her sister. Instead of no magic working in The Isle Of The Lost I think it would’ve been better if there was magic/curses working there but not being able to interact with Auradon. Instead of having magical items being in a museum where they’re rarely ever used, I think it would’ve been better if the magic was a normal thing that was used because it makes life easier.

This is one of the reasons why I'm so, so critical of forgiving people who have wronged others so easily. People need to understand that there are consequences for good and evil deeds. People need to understand that experiencing pain and trauma can't be an excuse to accept immoral behavior and harm done to innocent people. This is what happens when people over-empathize with criminals who were victims of abuse once in the past, because compassion can't be a thing given to everyone for granted, it can't be offered to every single person just because they ask for it, or because they suffered too much in the past. This isn't how a civilized society works. Hollywood and modern-day entertainment in general is normalizing this trend of _"giving one million chances to people with no qualms to commit mass murder, steal other people's properties, commit genocide, because no one ever loved them and being evil is the only thing they have ever known,"_ because innocent citizens can't be blamed for crimes they never committed to begin with. Thinking everyone deserves a second, third, fourth or a millionth chance to seek redemption, no matter how many times they fall back to their old habits and no matter how prideful and close-minded they are to learn from their mistakes and errors is what has actually desensitized society to these behaviors that should be frowned upon and not celebrated.

Descendants is that thing that we are surprised to like because it sounded like a bad idea at first, but in execution is a miraculous anomaly for TV movies that turns out way better than any of us expected it to be. A massive multiplayer crossover of animated Disney fairytale classics that shows the heroes and villains and their kids in a modern world with 2010s technology should not work, yet it somehow does because of how smart the writing and direction is to make us fall in love with it. However, there are still some people who do not like it about whom we forgot until they resurface with their own opinion on the subject, like The Nostalgia Critica and Smarty Pants. carlos and jay didn't get along in the beginning. it changed throughout the films without exploring why they weren't friends in the first place and what happened to change their relationship. carlos is an interesting character and it would've been nice to get more on not only him but the others. i get she's the main character and all but idk, i love descendents cuz it's nostalgic and all but ever after high will always have better writing. they gave other characters time to shine while descendants saved their best character development and exploration exclusively for mal.

Honestly, this should have been a show and could've benefited from adult characters instead of having all its characters be high school students. As it is now, it's a lesser Ever After High. I like the movies because it's so unironic. Because it's so unabashedly Wattpad. I think the base concept of a kingdom filled with Disney characters that segregated from the villains who all came to have children is interesting. Still, the world is not expansive because we never get to see Auradon outside of the school and the enchanted lake, really. It also doesn't focus on too many characters aside from Mal, which sucks because Jane and Jay have so much potential, but it's never touched upon. Everyone also gets a slap on the wrist and no one is called out for their actions. Mal runs away from a life of royalty to go back to the aisle after she broke the law, and everyone's just, okay with that?

Descendants is Rotten to the Core… That’s it. It had a good but the more you go into it, the cringier and more logic gets toss out the door. Don’t get me started on the “Finale” I can make a ted talk about it. I had put in 1.5x speed… I really how it began with first film but unamused how it ended with the third movie but still decent movies. I overlook the logic because it didn’t ruin my experience. The song are 10/10. Come for basic plot, stay for the songs. I have “Evil like me” and “Say My Name.” on my personal playlist. One of my catchphrases come from this movie. On the other side we have Raven Queen of Ever After High who was also the goth aesthetic daughter of villainess but we felt for her because people at first are scared of her so she was an out cast then she publicly opposed her assigned role of evil queen in Snow White story and started a revolution where other students were against and specially the teachers and principal pushed her to be evil because that is her role in fairytale / society and she is a good friend and a good person at heart and still lashes out time to time and struggled to control her magic but was a good person with clear ideals that even when the world it’s against her, she dares to wanna write her own destiny, THATS AN INSPIRING DAUGHTER OF A VILLANESS GOTH PURPLE PROTAGONIST AM I RigHT?!?!! Okay here’s the thing. I think the only Descendants content I ever truly enjoyed was the prequel. It came out before and was advertised on Disney channel alongside the movie. They made it out to be canon and I understand there must be miscommunication for writing a book and writing a movie are two separate things, but they did the book dirty. While much of the universe very much makes no sense anyways, as you pointed out, the book justifies what it can. The school and reason for the isle is explained, the state of Auradon is explained. It fleshes out the world and CHARACTERS. Sure they fall under basic tropes, popular girl, nerd and outcast besties, but there’s a reason and rhyme. And despite the movie and book supposedly going hand in hand, the movie ignores every backstory, ongoing character development, and every sliver of good in the book and made whatever mess this is. Descendants, as you portrayed, isn’t a good movie, franchise, or idea to begin with- admittedly young me toyed with said idea when playing with dolls as I often had multiple of the same character in different sizes but that’s me as a child these names are at that playtime level! If anything, this idea was executed excellently on Ever After High and kind of on Once Upon a Time. Only Ever After High could do this because it is not tied to a specific telling of a fairytale depicted in movies with their own lore and universe, they are storybook characters meant to continue carrying on the story. And Once Upon a Time, while being linked to Disney, is not Disney stories. They are their own, a retelling of fairytales in their singular universe. Unfortunately, Descendants receives praise and spotlight in comparison to any of what I mentioned here (nobody read the book come on), Descendants which ultimately pales in comparison to the superior choices. Some songs are real bops though. And I ship Mal and Evie. enemies to lovers 🫶🏽
