Definitely agree with you bro. I think Notion is such a great tool, BECAUSE of its ability to expose how deep our knowledge is of our own systems. I often say “Before you can trust your process, you must design it.” I absolutely think people get overwhelmed with the thought of having that much granular control, however, it is that same ability that lets us create truly bespoke systems that are tailored to the very specific needs of our business processes… and the benefits of that are tremendous when the execution is just right.

Process > Systems > Software. Good stuff, totally agree!

Thanks for this insightful video. When Notion announced Home and I realized that it will be rolled out in March and April, so I may not receive it soon, I was disappointed. But watching your video, I realized that there's nothing to regret. As you, I have already been using my own "Home" and I will state - not so modestly - that it's much much better and practical that the one proposed by Notion. Another downside is that it's not available for mobile, so what's the use of getting accustomed to the feature that we can use only on desktop? For the time being, for me it would mean having Notion's prebuilt Home on desktop, and my own "Home" on mobile. This is crazy!

Yeah thats very interesting, I hadn't noticed that it wasn't on mobile! (because I never use it) I imagine it will eventually get a dedicated button on the bottom but who knows! I think we'll see a lot of improvements in time but for the time being, don't feel too left out!

I would like to see a proper task view. It seems that Home is a step in this direction. Of course, we can build such a view, and it requires some knowledge of how things work in Notion: databases, relations, formulas, rollups. On the one hand, it gives a lot of flexibility but on the other, we can't build a task view known from task management apps, for example TickTick.

@@JoshReddAnd how about the integration with the Notion Calendar. Does Home integrate somehow or do we still need to integrate all the databases with tasks?

You've got great software philosophy and methods! I've been enjoying your content and adapting to the Perspectives System (I'm a former Omnifocus user so I really dig it!)

I tried recreating omnifocus in Notion years ago and that's exactly what led to this method! You probably get it quicker than most! Appreciate the kind words!

Hey man, I just see that in the thumbnail you show “Terminal PPV” , so I think it’s linked with August Bradley’s PPV? I love the way you design it
@JoshRedd9 ай бұрын
Yeah I was playing around with what it might look like to use the PPV system but build it with perspectives! I think it could be pretty slick!

That hat intro though 🤌🏼🤌🏼

You are right, as notion has grown there are at that point where most people “don’t want to build it themselves” which is why clickup has taken a large market share away from them.
@JoshRedd8 ай бұрын
Id be interested in any documentation you have of the market share between the two.

OK, how many takes for that hat throw 🙂..? I'm not so excited about the Home feature (didn't get it anyway as I'm on the paid but Personal plan, guess we're down on the list..) and I like my own dashboards. Since I'm working solo and although I have my consulting projects, I just have one Master Tasks database. Hey, I'm the OG of Notion Mastery Course 🙂... So my Tasks are connected as relational databases to basically everything in Notion - Knowledge wiki, Projects, Goals, Ideas... That way I can have some great views of Tasks as I need them. Lots of linked views within various dashboards. Not bragging, just enjoying that flexibility and implementing to my advantage. Kinda like to tinker myself, as you say "Notion is built for being able to build your own software system.." totally..

Every missed throw is at the very end of the video haha. I had 3 that connected and chose one of them for the intro. Yeah, I think for people who are brand new, home can be helpful! But for us builders, we can recreate it and more. And like I said, this is the first version of Home, it should only get better. I'm hoping to see the smaller components unlocked for us to build more flexibly.
