Descent Board with Hirst Arts Molds - Part 2 - Week 01 - Casting
In part two we begin the casting process. Because this is all new to me I find that my first casts have a couple of small problems which are corrected and have not been able problem since.
This is my first time casting from Hirst Arts molds using Merlins Magic Dental Stone.

I justed discovered your videos and it's looking good! :) Some Annotations to the broken pieces: They can break up the uniformity, Take the planks if you need a demolished bridge, or make them look like the dungeon dwellers tried to fix them. Maybe wrap the crack with twine soaked in white glue (so it looks like rope). And the "too thick" floor tile - Use it as is and you have a tile sticking out a little more. Sand it at angle - so you get a half-sunken tile. Take the broken floor tile (I love how it broke along the cracks!), sand both pieces at an angle so you get a slight v when looking from the side - Here the floor gave way. Maybe this is the way to the next level the PCs have to dig out? Or it is an aging trap? Or the Umber Hulk is waiting beneath it? I love the creativity oozing from the Hirst Arts molds!

When you store your molds once dry - after washing- dust talc over them it helps preserve the molds . Hope this helps . Also you can colour the plaster with poster paint to pre-colour the blocks . saves on painting and if the blocks chips the colour will be the same thoughout the block - no white showing . I actually use 5x7 pieces of glass (Picture Frame glass from Walmart) I then place a big plastic cup filled with water on top, and just move the glass in a circular motion until its flush with the mold. Pelicon sounds cool, I think Bolter Beach is that same weekend though, so I need to double check that. Cant wait to see more of the Hulk board.

Love the videos man. I cast Hirst blocks all the time out of Merlin's Magic. I cheat though, I could never get my blocks to scrape real well so I switched to the glass method of casting and now they are perfect every time. Also don't have to worry about the time so much then. I'm working on a Space Hulk/40K project with the blocks. I build over in PC so not that far from ya.

Thanks for the comments, Merlin's Magic is the stuff and if you have not tried the Almore Debubblizer I can highly recommend that also. How heavy is the piece of glass your using? I have seen it done with resin casting but not with dental plaster. My wife is from Mexico Beach so we spend a lot of time over there. You should check out Pelicon II this July 14th, one day con over here in Pensacola.

@TheSeasonman1 Thanks for the tip, have you seen any negative effects when using the poster paint (additional air bubbles, setup time of the blocks, staining of the molds)?
