This was such a smoothly-run match that we had squads stacking up, not because people were running hours behind, but because people were running hours _ahead_. Match-wise, the marksmanship was brutal, the physicality was brutal, the stages were a ton of fun, and the par time is real. I love that you can tell these are challenging target presentations in field conditions because even the guy who designed the match has difficulty reacquiring them, and finding the targets in field conditions is a skill in and of itself, especially shooting Fulda Gap on Day 2 with AK irons when all the paint on the targets has been blasted off by eight squads the day before. Thank you for putting this on, Karl, and kudos to the RO's, Cobalt, and everyone else who pitched in to help!

Indeed it was a literal blast. As always it was a good time for all. Just wish I hadn't had issues with my optic otherwise a great time. Especially fun to be in the VIP squad. I know "offhand" is a traditional term that comes from some classic shooting competition, but I am so glad we never got that in the military. "Standing unsupported" leaves no confusion, while "offhand" makes me automatically think that (as a right handed shooter) I'll be shooting this stage left handed. Fantastic shoot and competition. My knees (gift of the military) wouldn't survive a Desert Brutality... now, but I'm hoping to work my way back up being able to survive one. I know I won't place anywhere near first, but just making it through the whole event without par timing out on some stages would be excellent. 'Cause you gotta have goals.
@juansimon58022 жыл бұрын
still something that is viable and should be practiced. if someone else depends on u using that weapon ,you should be just as comfortable shooting either hand regardless the weapon,i.e. pistol, rifle or shotgun.

Honestly... And i hope the guy running this sees this (whoever you are, good looking haircut)... The fact that you pulled up on that third target and compensated perfectly was insane. Especially after having slight load failure which I'm sure increased your stress level when competing for time. Tell more people to film themselves during these, this video is better than most movies for gun people. I've been on the edge of my seat the whole damn time!!!!!!!!!
@visionaryfirearmsllc99992 жыл бұрын
Your very first shot was not a primer issue but rather the bolt was not fully in battery and in result you got a light strike. You can watch the bolt handle move further in batter after pulling the trigger and follow up shots the bolt handle is in a lower more locked position than that first attempt.

I wouldn't be anywhere near good enough (or experienced) for this competition but it's my ambition to one day get back over the US (last time was 2014, spending time in the Nevada desert and drove the length of California and back up again. I loved the desert so much) and find some way to take part in a practical shooting competition.

Karl, can you do a little piece on the combination of correct layering in summer / winter in combination of eye-pro? I've always had trouble staying warm when passive in winter and not fogging up. Same with overheating in summer. Please note, I live in a temperate ( I believe the word is ) climate in Western EU. Thanks?
@yosarianilivestech40182 жыл бұрын
The number one way to avoid fog is air flow, depending on your requirements of seal of the eye pro around your face this might not be an option. One trick that does help is to put a thin film of dish soap on the inside of the lenses to prevent fog accumulation, this is basically what anti fog sprays are.
