Never thought of Our Beloved Mother, the Theotokos, as a hesychast before but it makes sooooo much sense Her son and Our Lord was an expert in it and taught it to ( since he took time away from His disciples and His followers to practice it ). No wonder I love her so much PS as a slow and easy prayer I agree with time as opposed to reps since it allows me to focus on each word of the prayer and the meaning and gravity behind it. Plus I have found in every arena of human and scientific endeavour that INTENSITY beats volume

I concur Father, spiritual attacks on an unbelievable level, rage and anger swirling around me and even self-harm thoughts and blasphemous thoughts just by trying to say the Jesus prayer for 15 mins each day or doing the Pachomius prayer rule. My spiritual father says it’s the evil one fighting for his life.

You to huh??? For me it’s either my mind turning into a Planet Of The Apes marathon or extreme sleepiness wherever doing something spiritual eg reading holy scripture, lives of saints ESPECIALLY doing the St Pachomius prayer rule … the dude is scared, terrified even

@ yeah friend it’s messed up. The demons and the passions going bizerk. But have to stay close to the church, confess, take the Eucharist, give alms, be kind to others. I have a huge ego brother, monstrous freaking ego that needs to die. Full of pride and self love. Oh God cleanse me a sinner. I’m praying for you

The book we have about St. Paisius was bought years ago at St. Paisius Monastery. It's a hardback, "Blessed Paisius Velichkovsky, the Man behind the Philokalia. In Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the his repose." By Schema-monk Metrophanes, translated by Fr. Seraphim Rose. It's a beautiful book with lots of pictures.

When you do the akathists together, do you place them in compline or do you use the shorter service for the home?
@s.d.berquist6866Ай бұрын
Ask your spiritual father. However, I have been told that is acceptable to pray an akathist by itself.

@@s.d.berquist6866 thank you. I know that. I was wondering what they did together.

In looking at the Akathist hymn to the Theotokos that is served during Great Lent, one sees that the service of Small Compline is used. We pray the service of Small Compline through the Creed and It is Truly Meet. At this point we insert the Akathist. Once the Akathist is chanted, we then finish the service of Small Compline starting with the Prayer of the Hours. I assume that for liturgical use, we follow this same practice for any Akathist. If I am wrong, please, someone correct me.

Where does the practice of saying "One God" after invoking the Trinity come from?

This is only speculation, but his parish is in Salt Lake City Utah which is a primarily mormon area, so it may be his own spin to emphasize the doctrinal differences between the mormon and orthodox christian theological beliefs

I’ve seen it done by other Antiochian priests as well so maybe that is a practice within that tradition?

Hi, Father! May God guide us all ❤ I have 2 questions as a Inquirer. I didn't really want to ask one of these questions, but I can't help but confide in a Priest on this subject, because you know better. And Sorry if I make any mistake writing this, because I don't speak english properly. So, my first question is about evolution, Father. You've probably dealt with this before, but my case is that I've been... called a heretic by some people for not believing in a young Earth. I'm more of a agnostic in respect of creation, but I tend to be more accepting of creationist evolution, but I don't deny the importance of Genesis 1 and I don't just dismiss them as "they're just myths." Anyway, Father... am I wrong? Is it heresy to be an evolutionary theist in Orthodoxy? What the Orthodox Church thinks about it? The second question is... you will be a canonized Saint in the future? It is because of you that I have been loving learning about Orthodoxy, I am watching the 2022 Catechism. May God bless you and your family, Father! ❤
