I needed to share this today. It's not exactly mental prayer, but close. I'm a dentist, and i was doing a tooth extraction which was difficult. I doubted myself, but I called upon jesus, mother mary and saint michael to be with me while I did it. I can't explain it, but they were actually there. I felt peace inside me, the patient was calm and cooperative, and we were able to carry it out with minimal difficulty. I can't take any of the credit. Jesus, mother mary and st michael, it was all you. Praise be to God. I want everyone to experience their presence.

On the other side of the chair, as a dental patient, I'm always praying the rosary or mental prayers during dental cleaning or crowns, extraction, etc. It greatly reduces need for anesthesia, I feel like I'm in a spa sometimes despite the "needles". Truly amazing. Some of my best meditations occur in a dental office since I am literally have no ability for distractions or getting up. When they suggest I listen to audio books or music during treatment, I just hold my beads and pray. Thank you dentist! (My dentist is also catholic and sometimes asks me what decade I'm on :) 😀

I discovered mental prayer by accident while meditating on the ascension while saying the rosary. I tried to imagine the scene thinking of the medieval paintings I have seen, I tried to hear the insects, feel the heat of the day, smell the dust of the road, and see the landscape and the Apostles. I was suddenly there like real life, more real actually than life. Jesus was looking at his Apostles who were all arguing and distraught but I could not understand their language. Suddenly Jesus turned his head and looked at me and he was laughing, as if to say, "they don't understand that I will always be with them, and you silly girl." Then I felt such overwhelming love that I could hardly stand it. I went to my Priest after that to ask what he thought of what happened and he assured me I was not insane. That said, I have been afraid to do this since as it was so overwhelming. You have now given me the courage to do it again.

I just tried mental prayer for the first file tonight after this video. I went to the Adoration chapel and placed myself at the baptism of Jesus. He baptized me and spoke to me about his Mother. It moved me to tears. Amazing.

Six years ago I was living in Tampa Florida. I moved from Texas. I was invited to St Paul Catholic church. I met a prayer group leader. And she taught bible classes every Thursday nights. Well I joined the group and we were taught mental prayer. It was a one year course but it changed my life completely. With the mental prayer, it helped me forgive my past, and everything I experienced that was painful in my past. And I actually walked with Jesus in places I wanted to see Jesus. Every mental prayer was different, sometimes I cried, sometimes I smiled , it was an incredible journey. To this day I continue to do mental prayer . It is important. ❤

I have been a Priest for 20yrs before I got to know about the beauty of mental prayer when I got dried spirituality and decided to do a retreat at a Carmalite Monastery in Nsukka Nigeria and Cistercian Monastery Auhum 2023. I was in a dark expansive space and there was huge red heart and inside of the heart was a soft bed with fluffy pillows and blanket. I crawled inside and knew it was Jesus’ Heart. I laid down and was so comfortable. I asked Him a question, “ explain to me how fasting works?” He said “ fasting is the fertilizer your prayers need to bear lots of fruit.” So simple. Totally understand it now. Yes it was in my imagination but it totally happened.

I just tried mental prayer Pat St. Teresa of Avila parish in Augusta. I don't believe I have ever been so moved by prayer. I was all alone in the chapel. I felt called to make present the wedding of Cana. I am not an externally emotional person. I had tears of sorrow and joy simultaneously. I don't expect every mental prayer session to be this emotionally moving, but I will remember this for all the times I dread the commitment. Praise God for giving this grace so freely to someone as flakey as me. Thank you so much Gabriel for your witness and your guidance in my consecration to our most perfect Momma. Hi! I just thought I'd post something that *really* helped me when I had anxiety. It was the book "Anxiety, Phobias, & Panic: A Step-By-Step Program for Regaining Control of Your Life," by Reneau Peurifoy, MA, MFT. Someone I recommended it to with serous agoraphobia said she was able to leave her house for the first time in ages. Also, for depression, the book "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by David Burns, MD was excellent! These were both *****life-changing***** books for me, and they're based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), basically changing your thinking patterns step by step, which straightens out your emotions. From someone who has been there and knows how exhausting anxiety & depression can be, I hope this is helpful to you. God bless you & yours! :)

Also, I’d recommend paying the full Rosary daily (or just 5 mysteries if you’re just starting out), remembering to meditate on the mysteries as you go. Something shifts after a while of paying the Rosary every day… you can “go into” the lives of Jesus & Mary in your imagination easier, and your life starts to change. I also HIGHLY recommend daily Mass, Adoration as much as possible, & daily mental prayer with the Bible. I think that often anxiety & depression are afflictions from evil spirits, so tell Jesus you renounce these spirits of anxiety & depression (& ask Him to rebuke them, bind them, blind them, remove them from your life and send them to the foot of the Cross to await His punishments), pray the St. Michael prayer daily, get close to Jesus, Mary, St. Joseph Terror of Demons, & your Guardian Angel through mental prayer. Wear the Brown Scapular, Crucifix, St. Benedict Medal, & Miraculous Medal for protection. There is so much peace on the other side of anxiety! You will make it there very soon with all these helps!!! :) God bless you! I’ll pray for you.

I no longer suffer from those awful panic attacks and have given my whole life to God through Mary’s intercession! thank you so much for your kind words!!!! Since then I’ve been praying the full rosary every day and when I can the divine mercy chaplet when I can. I’ve went to confession for the first time and 7 years and am going back to mass. I have a miraculous medal I wear everyday …. I do need to get a scapular though ! Nevertheless it definitely seems like it’s spiritual warfare, who would have thought? God is amazing and faithful and Mary is a loving mother! Thank you again for your sweet words! You’re right on the money!!!

Mental prayer. That is where Gods grace is. Keep doing mental prayer, it is just thinking about God. It will transform you. Little kids can do mental prayer. It is just thinking only of God, and not anything else. When I was a kid in catholic school, I would just go in the back yard and think about God. That is mental prayer. Dont over complicate it. If you pray the Rosary, just think about any of the mysteries while you pray. That is mental prayer. Sometimes I just think of one mystery. For instance 5 decades of the crucifixion. Sometimes I just say one our father super slow and think of God the Father. After a while you will start to feel Gods prescence if you keep doing mental prayer. Dont give up and God Bless. The world needs people like you doing mental prayer as much as possible.

Thank you! I really needed to hear this today. I gave up on mental prayer many many years ago. When I stopped I also stopped hearing Jesus and Mother Mary. I have a lot of autoimmune diseases and live in constant pain. I used to join my suffering to Jesus’ suffering on the cross. After the pandemic things changed. I no longer go to daily mass and rarely attend Sunday mass. My life has not gotten better, but worse and I only have myself to blame. I’m going to begin mental prayer immediately and pray for a closer walk with Jesus again. God bless you. If you happen to read this post please say a little prayer for me. I need it. Deus Vult! I am so thankful for this video! I am a convert and I just started going to adoration. While I was praying I visualized hugging Jesus and He invited me in to talk and visit with Him. It was so beautiful! Then, I got this notion that I don't have time in my schedule for adoration and I can just pray at home. After watching your video, I know that thought was a distraction and a lie from the enemy. I have decided to go back to adoration. I am where I am today because of Our Blessed Mother's intervention in my life. Jesus infused such a deep, deep love for His mother, that if I fail to pray the Rosary, missing Mass and especially the Eucharist, I feel empty, empty. She has revealed things about her Divine Son that only she can do. No visions or anything like that. I cannot explain this. If you sincerely want to know the Lord, then invite His mother in your life. When you pray the Rosary, the Blessed Mother takes you by your hand and helps you to see the life of her Son through her motherly eyes: their Joy. Sorrows and Glory.

Gabe, About a month ago I ran into a talk on the Sensus Fidelium KZbin channel that covered mental prayer. Though very active in the spiritual life I had never even heard the concept, and yet the speaker demanded it’s necessity for salvation. Another unfamiliar concept brought to my attention was the higher degrees of prayer and how they are all achieved through mental prayer. I have also had friends who in the last couple weeks have come to the realization of its necessity. I believe the Holy Spirit is at work in stirring up this revival.

The Benedictine tradition has a very traditional method of mental prayer that begins with meditative reading of Holy Scripture, spontaneous prayer to the Lord about what we notice on the holy page, moving towards a contemplative experience of being with the Lord (like Gabe's friend). It's so simple and really enjoyable. And the great thing is that it begins with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through the sacred word of God. It's really easy!

The first book I was guided to read is conversations with Christ by Peter Thomas Rohrbach, the teachings of Saint Teresa of Avila about personal prayer.… he does an excellent job of describing mental prayer.…. It is very easy synopsis.… fast forward four years and I just picked up this book again and was reading it this week and started mental prayer.! But I confess I was wanting bells and whistles and phenomenon and I wasn’t getting any so I didn’t keep it up …. then I stumbled onto this podcast I get the message!God works in mysterious ways but sometimes. He hits you over the head with a 2 x 4.! I get the message ….mental prayer will now become a permanent part of my life! @@user-sl4xq4dh6j .., I’m sorry, but I do not really understand your question… but often I skip a lot of steps, and I just imagine the presence of God…. Then pray by talking directly with Jesus or Mary…. And often it feels like I’m making it up at first … but I know I am not when I get those feelings of peace and comfort ….I have a very vivid imagination, so that part is easy for me.… I recently read a book by Alphonse Liguori call talking with God…. And he goes over ways to pray… the last section is on feeling the presence of God. And for me, I can do that when I look at nature… I can get “blussed out” just from looking at the sunlight, hitting the leaves on the trees in my backyard. Lately for me everywhere I look, I see God.…. So then it’s easy for me to use my imagination. Once I’m feeling the presence to talk just talk with Jesus or Mary or God.… I don’t know if that answers your question at all… and sometimes I don’t really feel the presence and I don’t really get to have a conversation but I don’t give up and then there are days that are very special… it would be nice if everything was easy, wouldn’t it? But I do think this whole general method of mental prayer. Is the most effective for me other than saying the rosary. I enjoy getting into the repetitive flow of the rosary… and I am just teaching myself to pray it in Latin. Also, I am very fortunate, because in the next town, only half an hour away is a priest who is very much into the Latin mass and tradition. So I have been doing the ordo novus mass at my parish, and then I go over and manage to catch the 1 o’clock mass in Latin. I’ve only been doing this a couple of months and I noticed a big difference in my reference especially towards the Eucharist. Frankly, I was surprised that going to a Latin mass where I don’t understand the word that’s being said is having such an amazing affect on me, and after a couple of months, I can now follow the mass. They have a nice booklet. The prayers are much more reverent. That’s all I can say is that it all seems much more reverence since I’ve been doing the Latin mass. I have read so many books and read several websites on Mental Prayer. I have tried doing this for years and has not succeeded either because I did not understand or just didn't fully understand how to do it. Your presentation and guidance lit up a fire to try it again. I have experienced and practiced mental prayer throughout my life. It isn’t new to me. Once in adoration chapel the true presence was just so indescribably strong, beautiful, real. My patron saint Catherine of Sienna received the same vision I did. I didn’t even realize she had that vision until years later after mine when I read about hers in a children’s book.

I am blown away by this. Wow! I have been going through a very rough period in my life. I have always preserved in prayer and faith but recently I simply felt that my life has not been getting even a drop better. It’s been getting so much worse, for many months. None of my important prayers had been answered at all. I finally decided I would stop my daily prayers (namely the rosary and my occasional chaplet of divine mercy as these are all my toddler gives me time to pray daily) until God gives me an answer. It felt very wrong but I was truly at the end of my rope. I turned on my TV to KZbin to watch daily mass. I rarely watch TV for myself and I rarely watch KZbin. But after mass, this video popped up. And now I have my answer!!!! Thank you infinitely

This is next-level. My relationship started to get rocky the last few months. I became more focused on regular life, at the expense of my relationship with God. Within a few minutes (if that) my entire perspective shifted, and I felt as close to Him as when I first came to Christ. In mere moments I had answers to questions I couldn't even articulate. Mental Prayer is Heart to Heart with Our Lord. Sitting or kneeling comfortably. Quiet, focus on your Being and Gods Being before you in the invisable. Sit quiet and just Be for few minutes. Than move it slowly into longer periods each werk until ypur sitting for 40 min. Including after 15 min of quiet pick up your Act of contrition, than an Consecration or Morning Offering. Than a litany of some kind or reading the words of Jesus, than a few psalm's. Allowing Jesus to tell you where you need to change, and how. To than pray for that change very seriously. Seeking those Virtues attached to that change. Do same with Our Heavenly Mother 15 min a day, You'll whole relationship with Christ will alter and become more intimate when you leave Mother and go into your day again with Our Lord Jesus. Call upon the Holy Spirit in this time.

I’m in tears realizing now that Jesus truly has been with me all these years, years of yurning to be in his presence or at least feel it, I sometimes Envisioned me hugging Jesus like I was a little kid hugging a dad consoling me, that is mental prayer! How long have I’ve been envisioning myself in different scenes of the Bible but in various situations just because I wanted to feel closer to the them. Some modern authors recommend that this prayer be called "interior prayer". Thank you so much for this video. The explanation and demonstration of mental prayer is exactly what I need now. I did hear about mental prayer a long time ago and was told to avoid it because toying with the imagination can be an invitation to allowing 20:25 20:26 the devil to play with us. That warning, which came from a non-Catholic, stuck in my mind. And I never heard of St Teresa of Avila or any of the saints doing mental prayer, neither have I heard any explanation as clear, as convincing, and as well exemplified as the one given here. And I say this video is what I and some members of my family need at this moment because I feel we've reached a point when some of us are really being "scourged." I've have stressed the vitality of mental prayer with the candidates and catechumens when instructing OCIA (formally RCIA) for this very reason. Mental prayers pierces the very Heart of God. Mary will teach you if you let her. I also press me tal prayer with her as well. It's truly liberating.

This was such a neat discussion. I’m still listening to it actually. For the last couple of years, when I have time to really kneel and pray, I printed off the 3d image based off the shroud. Also there was a picture I found off Pinterest that was supposedly Mary. Apparently this family took some balloons, tied them together like one big rosary, and let it off into the air on Mary’s birthday. Someone snapped a picture, and a woman’s face was on it, who they believed was Mary. I love those little pictures, and I’ve found them to be so special in prayer along with my crucifix. I’m excited to try this. Gotta run, I gotta hear the rest.😂

Thank you Gabi, I have been doing mental prayer for a while now because I had the devil attack my thoughts day and night. I did not learn it from the church said to say this. I actually learned it from Born Again Christians and I loved it. I sometimes would be doubtful though because I would feel like I am shutting down the Holy Mother. So I started asking her to walk with me to go to her son Jesus Christ and with her presence her son would respond to my request and immediately after that I would invite my guardian angel to do the rosary with me. I love it and do it daily now and trust me it is the most powerful tool we could ever have. I pray that many would learn about this mental prayer. Even when you do not pray, you find yourself praying when you are sitting alone and quiet, you find your soul automatically just praying it can be a prayer or the rosary.

I learnt about mental prayer from St Francis De Sales and Fr Garrigou Lagrange 30 years ago....a beautiful book is My Daily Bread that helps us thru the purgative to mental contemplation and union with God a tiny bit each day

I am in areal battle i cant seem to concetrate in prayer i have seasons when i do areal prayer and feel the presence of christ and sometimes i dont at all i even forget i have to pray coz am distracted in one way or another. 😊 yes a lot of us have known about mental prayer and the reason why you may not have heard it until you did is because God is great. Only when the student is ready❤🕊✨️ Every night when I would come home and before bed I was sitting in my room on the floor light a candle and just put the big put the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Bible side by side. I sat there on the floor and set out loud, okay what do I do? Truly I just wanted to go into the closet and hide. But I did this every night 4 weeks and 4 months . And what I know is that when the question is where are you God, I am reminded it is me who had left he will never leave us. Just says it says in the Bible know I am always with you .
