This scene takes place more than halfway through the book, and the rest of the book is heavy with big events. The obvious place to split the book was also the obvious place to split the movie, thankfully.

I can't fathom how they're going to fit everything in unless the movie is 3.5 hrs which I'm really hoping it is. Part 1 was far too short in my opinion and missing some scenes that would've added to the story... still incredible adaption though. October couldn't come any sooner.

@@asllen3310 in the beginning of Dune the planet was not that well suited for air combat as sand storms and constant 100 km winds grounded any attempt to properly patrol the skies. So the worst case scenario of a gruelling ground war slogged both sides but the Fremen were already well trained and prepared to fight the long war much more than a small incursion by most major factions could afford. So any of the major factions that tried to maintain a presence on Arrakis either made peace with the Fremen or fought to an almost standstill.

I think that's not a mother's worried look, it's the Bene Gesserit's worried look. The Fremen see Paul as a potential messianic figure (all that talk of Lisan Al-Gaib) and she is aware and worried that him embracing that culture can have cataclysmic outcomes for everyone involved. Bringing charismatic leaders together with hordes of religious zealots rarely ends up well.

I started reading the Dune series in the 80s. This film did not disappoint. Denis really captured the essence of it for me. One criticism-I wish the dinner scene in Arrakeen had been in the film. Completely understand why though. There is just so much to the first book alone..

I love that part too, the layers of communication and diplomacy. Feints within feints within feints. It would be cool to see that acted on a stage though, with a chorus-type narrator for internal exposition. Idk how you’d do that on film without Lynchian voiceovers

@@THE-id1by they’re only disappointing if you allow yourself to nitpick every small detail. If you just enjoy it as it is, you’ll see it’s a great movie. They can’t fully convey the convoluted narrative of the book on screen, but for what it’s worth this was an impressive adaptation

I read Dune the year it came out, and many times since. One of my favorite books. This movie brought the novel to life to a degree I would never have thought possible. After viewing it in its initial theatrical release, I was shattered. REALLY looking forward to part 2.

They were headin for a Sietch, which is built in an underground cavern of solid rock. Worms won’t tunnel through anything other than sand, hence why a large city was built behind the Shield Wall.

I still think air power would beat desert power, what more in dune you have space power...... park an orbital laser in geostationary orbit and when a worm shows up just shoot it in the mouth..... it will not probably kill the big ones, but with luck it will teach it not to aproach those particular vibrations. Also..... if the only reason to not use laser rifles are shields..... and fremen dont carry shields..... get laser shotguns.....you dont even need to destroy the sietches, you could just glass large parts of the dessert surface making it intraversable and then deal with those inside the ring..... you dont need the whole planet to mine spice

Space is controlled by the Spacing Guild, and the Fremen bribed the Guild with pure spice to keep their secrets and make sure no satellites or ships were over their territories. And warships only get there if the Guild chooses to bring them there.

I domt know why, but i find it very oit of character and irksome that chani says that line here. It would be much more fitting for jessica to say something like this in a conspiratorial way as shes planning to use the bene gesserit planted prophecy to gain power and revenge against the imperium. Or, paul who can see the freakin future and lets us all know whats coming by giving us a little wink. Chani does not like him enough to be speaking to him with something this optimistic yet.

They only did that walk to prevent worms from coming after them. And now you learn that the fremen control the worms so obviously the worms won't come after them. The fremen don't tell other pple because it's more like a secret. So they act like they don't control the worms.

In the book there are different types of sand, some tougher and less able to transmit vibrations. They do the stupid walk on sand that can carry the rhythmic vibrations that attract worms (open dunes). Here it looks more like they're walking on a rocky hill, which the worms can't get to

Because there are sandstorms than can tear metal to shreds within minutes. Getting into one of these storms spells certain Death when flying. Otherwise they use ornithopters to fly around the dessert. The fremen are nomads without top of the line technology tho.

Because as informed fans we know it is only the beginning of Paul and Chani's adventure together... ushering in the God Emperor's 3000 year reign and the first real steps on the Golden Path. They still need to conquer all known inhabited planets and kill over 61 billion people in Muad'dib's jihad... This entire movie was just the introduction to the universe. 🤷♂️
