I’m thinking there’s not quite enough there to justify an upgrade from Epix Gen 2 Sapphire. I’ll wait for the series 9. It’s getting a bit like phones these days. We reached near peak tech and changes are mostly cosmetic though I operate the watch with the phone connect smart features off😂. I purchased the Epix for health tracking and sports namely running and mountain climbing / hiking. I don’t need or want to get text messages etc on my watch when doing these things. I love the endurance, altitude and heat acclimation features. Epix gen 2 is still a relevant and super watch.
@golfinitup23 ай бұрын
@@Writer_Davide I am on the same page with you! Like there are fun new features, but are they $1,100 worth of new features, heck no! Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have them though. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to upgrade from a great watch in the Epix 2 for features that only slightly enhance my day-to-day use (the flashlight seems like the best improvement). Love the point you made about phones. Many parallels there. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Love the heck out of it. But it's about to be 5 years old and even though the year over year upgrades aren't much. After a few years they start to add up. The sweet spot for me on the Fenix will probably be when they add the LTE version, which I don't care for and then I will buy the version before that on a deep discount. Or when my Epix 2 dies. Which I would hope the former happens first.

I'm a die hard G shock fan. I've been wearing the GBDH1000 which then got discontinued so i went with GBDH2000. Both have excellent MIP display. And great battery life but as you know casio app interface is just horrible. It's almost useless considering how hard it is to navigate and waste of time. But it's a g shock so it's durable and never broke on me even wearing every day to work, shower, swimming, surfing, hiking. I just ordered the fenix 8 and went with the solar MIP display. Was hesitant to buy the fenix 7xpro since the battery life seemed a little low. But now that went up, it's time for me to try it. Really looking forward to the useful modes on the garmin watch, and the flashlight. That itself made me want it even more. I hate having to pull out my phone or find a flashlight when i'm out camping. Now i can go pee without searching for my flashlight i probably kicked to the side of my tent. :D

@kk4649k3 ай бұрын
@@Koufalia4 If you actually use your watch for fitness like the apps, i would say garmin was the right choice. If you're a person that likes a watch that rarely needs to be charged ( i haven't charged mine in over 4 months) and is just rugged as hell. G shock is the way i think. Only reason i'm switching is mainly for the flashlight to be honest ahahah. When i work out i dont look at my heart rates and stuff like that anyways. If it wasn't for the flashlight, i probably wouldn't buy the garmin from a GBDH2000. I mean this watch looks sexy and the display is just so clear. One thing casio did good with the MIP display.

As a proud owner of Epix Pro 47mm I am thinking of upgrading to Fenix 8. Main reason being the leak proof inductive buttons. As a swimmer and someone doing a lot of watersports this is something important. I already killed one Epix Pro because of swimming and pressing buttons while doing laps in saltwater pool. Anyways my question is; Epix Pro 47mm has 20 hours battery life with AOD off and 15 hours with AOD on. Fenix 8 47mm states 35 hours battery life with AOD off and 28 hours with AOD on. Almost twice the increase in battery life when using Multiband GPS (Max Accuracy) However, both of them have 16 days of battery life when in normal mode without doing any activity. How is this possible? Shouldn't the non-activity battery life also double? What am I missing?

Adding LTE would’ve been a complete game changer for me. I’ll just keep using my Epix Pro 2 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 combo when I run. Seems like Garmin is afraid to add LTE to their watches because they know they’ll lose the one advantage they have over Apple which is battery life. The GPS on that Ultra is just as good as any Garmin and the heart rate sensor on the Apple is definitely better.

Thanks for such thorough review! I’m looking at the watch case design, I think it lost some of its toughness, it looks too much like a generic cheap smart watch and doesn’t scream “tough sport watch”. I think the design of the Fenix 6 and 7 are much more oriented to “toughness” in terms of design.

The "physical click" you mention (5:00) in the Fenix 7 is absolutely trash. Is the altimeter accurate on your device ? I have the 47mm Amoled since last friday (5 days) and it tends to overestimate by a lot the floors climbed in a day. For example, yesterday my iPhone and my Apple Watch Ultra counted 5 and 4 floors (5 is the right answer). The Fenix 8 had 26. I tried to clean up the watch like Garmin advised and did a manual calibration. It seems a little bit better today with the iPhone at 14 and the Fenix at 20. The right count is probably around 14-15.
