I think I might do this, but more toned down. Often times I have other projects for school or home, or personal projects, but I'll start with designing maybe 50 somethings, and eventually get to designing 100 somethings.

Hey Jake I'm very much a beginner still at drawing. But I wanted to say a huge thank you! Firstly for Inktober , which gave me the habit of (near) daily ink sketching and secondly for this video. I've taken on several design 100/50/25 challenges. I've learnt so much since doing these and although some of the drawings have been far from a success I've enjoyed all of them. So more than anything thank you for being a real inspiration and sharing your wisdom!

I used to do that kind of challenge with a friend. We'd choose a subject -- let's say, electric guitars -- and would go back and forth doing design variations, which ended up with, of course, one design crazier than the next. It wasn't exactly productive, but it was a lot of fun.

This sounds like a project I need. I tend to draw on bristolboard on my desk in front of my computer with my lamp, and I find it increasingly difficult to work anywhere else. I really love the idea of carrying a sketchbook and doodling in it, but I can't ever bring myself to get started - and a project like this - sketching in a sketchbook away from my desk is just the thing to be doing that. Now all I need is a subject...

Great video, Jake! Really love the idea and intention of this project. I'm not sure if anyone else asked this but how finished do the drawings need to be? Yours were really tight pen drawings, but I've seen plenty of looser concept art designs/sketches with the intention of more variety overall rather than every little detail. Would you say there should be a clear metric of how far is too far or is there no limit to how far one goes?

@ArtByKarenEHaley8 жыл бұрын
I think it would be a good portfolio piece a) if you gear the subject toward the sort of work you want and b) if you've finished it. You may not want to show them every individual image though. Instead, arrange them on a two page spread (like a Pokemon poster) so they can get a idea of your character design ability without having to go through 100 images. This way they can still see your other work.

I remember when you posted about Stripped and you were saying that you wanted to do a comic strip but you didn't feel like your sensibilities worked in that format (or something of that sort) but have you thought of posting something like this as a sort of daily comic? Not exactly a narrative but just a visit to the same world regularly. I don't know. It was just a thought.
