Your comments are spot on - another insightful post from you! One small suggestion: please use more "typical" home examples. The spaces you've worked on are incredible but very out of touch with the average viewer. It would be much more helpful to see a high-end example and another more simple based on what the average home looks like.

I was going to suggest the exact same thing. Those homes are GORGEOUS,, but most of us viewers don't have that grand of a home, so an upgrade on a "normal"..(I hope I'm using the right word) or like she said the "typical" home would be wonderful.

Rajna Kecojevic you’re right...most of us don’t live in huge spaces. 8’ ceilings, 1500-2000 square foot homes are more realistic.

@@JulieKhuu I love these tips, but with some of the realities of being a woman, I prefer darker sheets. Any tips to incorporate darker sheets into designs? @@elizabethbushnell8684 i hope one year later my comment will still be useful. Our bedroom walls are darkish grey and there are lots of cream and white accents and some dark wood. I sew a set of bed linen in dark chocolate flax linen and it's just gorgeous. I think it will go perfectly with your palette too. No more stress after a surprise period or spilled tea, just wash it thoroughly and the stains won't show as on the light fabrics. I hate the smell of bleach, so this is my solution.

Five stars Julie! So 90% of what you spoke about I've already done in my home out of my own intuition. Then near the end you said get rid of the vinyl blinds. I keep them because I'm concerned about the sun fading my artwork, furniture and rugs. But I recently had my windows replaced with glass that seems to have UV protection. So I pulled the blinds up, pulled the shears and Wallah, it looks great! What I really liked about your video is that you don't waste my time with fluff, you get to the points and give great information. I'm definitely a subscriber now, thanks so much!

A very interesting video with a lot of good ideas. That wallpapered bathroom was especially yummy. However, here is another thought concerning white sheets. My theory is that sheets, like clothing, should be flattering to the person whose head is on the pillow. If white makes you look wan and ill, it is better to choose a color that suits your skin tone. I personally love my russet sheets!

@@Tinyteacher1111 You are so correct!! I love the look of the dark floors I had installed BUT I am a slave to them. Every piece of lint or dust looks so obvious. I need to dust mop them daily and wash them every few days. I never had this problem with the light oak original hardwood flooring in the older part of the house. So much for trying to update to a more contemporary look. Never again! I actually regret doing it now and it wasn't cheap! I live in a busy neighborhood in a big city so it's hard to keep the dust and dirt out-even from just cars going by, I feel they stir up dirt too and it gets inside.

Ive been doing things like this all pandemic. I got rid of all the tones in my room and have been decorating with all white with pops of terra cotta, which I’ve been diying with. I repainted my mirror white and then added a terracotta border. I had a black stool and painted it terra cotta and using it as a plant stand next to my mirror. On the opposite side, i found this cute chic African basket with lots of colors, but also having my terra cotta in it to relate. I then added a palm to the inside of the basket, using the basket to add texture. Had an old white ikea vase, taped it up and repainted it. The lip of the vase chipped but with the touches i added to the vase, it looks expensive as if i bought it like that. Anyways, thats just a few. I’ve also been going plant crazy and adding plants everywhere. Fresh lively plants always make a space look more lux.

When you talked about blinds I felt that in my spirit. Since I still need to have the basement finished, I am slowly making changes. I have white panels in my bedroom and it is amazing what effect it has on natural light. I also decided to go with white sheets because i do what my bedroom to have that hotel feel while being cozy. Just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! ☺️ I love how you've formatted the videos in digestible chunks. We just finished sheetrocking our living room and we are ready to put primer on the walls. I've been wanting to do something on the ceiling, like bamboo wood, but I thought it might be too much because we have regular 8' ceilings, and on top of that, I love herringbone patterns! 😍 I'm not sure if it'll be too busy, but I love seamless solid floors with no grout or grooves for easy cleaning, so maybe that would offset the busy ceiling? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Or, maybe I can reverse it, and put a wood ceiling with no pattern, but the have a herringbone pattern on the floor? I'm having a bit of a challenge making everything cohesive, but after watching your video, I'm sure I want to dress up our ceiling now, since it creates a sense of luxury! So, my three things are ceiling, something on the walls, and definitely getting rid of all plastic on my windows. 😅 Thank you so very much for the advice!💜

Ceilings are the fifth wall so treat it with care and attention Sandra. I love the idea of wood paneled herringbone- but your instincts are correct. The more of a statement you make up top, the more simplified the rest of the space should be to really let the ceiling shine. You got this 🙌🏻

Thank you for these videos. I am learning so much. I am moving into my dream retirement home soon and you have inspired me to get rid of alot of old crap we have been hanging onto for 20+ years. I want my new home to be elegant yet comfortable and welcoming. One problem I am going to have to deal with is the ACRES of kitchen cabinets that have no pulls/handles and are not easy to open. I think adding handles and pulls for all these drawers and cabinets will look too busy.
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 3 жыл бұрын
They make slim modern handles that are installed on the backside of the drawers and cabinets with just a sliver revealed as the pull. Or if the cabinets are all wood, you can get wood knobs and have them painted to match so they totally disappear Elaine 👍🏻

Thank for your good advice. Live houseplants do wonders for my home. When I remove them for special fertilizing or watering, the room looks oddly bare. I especially like big plants or a display of several small plants and textures featured on a tray. Also, live plants help to clean the interior air. The only problem is that many plants need to be by a window, and they reject where I want to place them because of lack of light. So, I figure them out. Nothing looks prettier than a beautiful, live plant.

I know this is an old post, but my suggestion is to use single 'grow' bulbs - helps the plant and highlights it at the same time. I put them in those hinged lamps so I can move it closer or further way from the plant.
