This is great, and I think that task lighting is especially important. To that category I would add lighting in the closet. I think that a shadowy closet is one of those low level irritants that mess up the energy in the home. It’s especially important to keep the bedroom peaceful and friction free.

Thank you for this video. I like to decorate different rooms in separate styles. I have a sleek look to one bedroom while another is shabby chic-but not too "shabby". I have a tv room I decorated in a semi-Victorian style and a more modern living room. I feel like each room is me and love the way the rooms in the house feel.

Looking good! I agree that the linen is a great choice for sheets. I love the temperature control they give me. Never too hot or cold. Nice natural product. Mattress must be the most expensive item in your bedroom and your childrens bedroom. Don’t forget the box spring. It should last for over ten years if you buy the right one. I have mine for 15 no complaints. Turn and rotate them. Good ones are double sided. Matching bedside tables make the room look finished and no lamps on those tables. Hardwired or wall mounted lights above the table. Mine were from ikea look great. Recently replaced the shades and hacked them with one inch string fringe glued on and new finials! Rug is essential in the bedroom. Wall to wall or big one to step on in the morning. I keep my bedroom in a neutral tone so it has a relaxed vibe. Beiges and whites with navy blue accents. Tell me about a guest room. What would you put in it and how to deal with the issue of double use as an office playroom etc. also are you going to get Kamari a twin mattress or double, in a year or so it will be time. I got twins for my kids bc the rooms were smallish. But I know you know better how to design the room around a full sized bed. Have a great day!!!

Loved this video - as I am wanting to really get my bedroom space to feel functional and luxurious - my master bedroom was sort of my last space to capture - up until this point it kept being the space that had some good things going on but still the unfinished space after a move. Nice video Julie. For me as a designer, a function is a term that corresponds with the socio-cultural lifestyle and routine of a client. What makes function is that of variance of comfort. One may be comfortable like this but the other is like that.

Love how you fit so much info in a short video! My question is if a canopied bed frame would look strange in a sloped ceiling bedroom if the canopy fits at the lowest point ? (minute 10:18 love that canopy bed)

Check Pinterest for more inspiration Luisa. Depends on how tall that canopy is- sometimes a 4-poster can give you that same feel, without the extra added cross bars. Hope that helps!

I have Brooklinen sheets, I think they're a bit pricey, however, I love them...they're the best sheets I've ever had. I used to only buy cheap sheets before. I'll never buy cheap again. It really does make a difference to have good quality sheets.

Hi Julie, thank you for the video! What if I have a small room and I can’t fit two nightstands because I need a small desk in the room too. Can I place the small desk on one side of the bed and a nightstand on the other side? How would I balance both sides?

That’s exactly how hotel suites do it Norma 👍🏻 Symmetrical table lamps or wall sconces will do the trick to visually balance out the bedroom

I think your video was great, but I have 2 double wardrobes in my bedroom which tend to dominate. My bed and bedside cabinets are in one half of the room nearer the window and the wardrobes in the first half as you walk in. It creates 2 zones, problem is the wardrobes dominate but they share the same wall as the bed so I need to amp up the "bed" zone but haven't decided how to do that. I even considered building in a closet area - maybe you have a video on this already, I'll have a look. It would be great if I only needed a bed & 2 nightstands! 💕

Sounds like the wardrobes take priority so you’re right to design the space around that Teresa. If they can’t be isolated on a single wall, then you would have to measure the available distance on either side of the bed once you center it in the negative space. What you have leftover would be how much room you have to play with for nightstands or matching side tables. Even small round ones work! 👍🏻

My bed base and bed head are a light grey and my cotton sheets and linen duvet cover are charcoal grey. My bedroom has grey carpet as well. (Rental) I’m really wanting a change but not sure whether to get with a cream or off white set, or perhaps a colour. Any suggestions? The only other colours in my bedroom are green from my plants and pink/orange from my salt lamps.

Pure white is classic. Cream is timeless and a little more elevated. Off white is pretty as well, but if you feel like you want more warmth, go with cream. It will offset the coolness of the grays KayElle 👍🏻

Not unless the carpet is super low pile. That’s the only way it will work since the rug will crush over high pile every time you walk on it Sabrina

Yes, even if you had a twin size I would still suggest matching nightstands. Scale and proportion is integral in the success of your design 👍🏻☺️

My guest bedroom is small 12.5' L x 10.5' w. There's a queen bed on the 10.5' focal wall which doesn't allow space for matching nightstands only one, and it will be under a window. There's only one window in the room and it's on the right side of the focal wall. the focal wall is what you see when you enter the bedroom. Is that okay to only have one nighstand? Suggestions?

A queen bed is only 5’ wide Angela. Which means you have more than 5’ split between 2 nightstands with the leftover space. You can center the bed underneath the window with heavy drapery.

Oh noo- Julie I have two different nightstands with different lampshades on each.. but they stand in front of two large mirrors from ikea (black frame) ... is this bad even if I have those identical mirrors on each side?

I can never get the duvet filler to stay put, pointers? I’ve even had them sewn together and it still bunches at the bottom.

This set from Brooklinen has ties at the corners. Love that they don’t go anywhere. Your issue may be the duvet size in relation to the cover. If you’re purchasing from different brands, the discrepancy is what accounts for the bunching Dawn. You can also sew buttons inside and make a little tab on the duvet for it to stay put.

In my room there's really only one wall where I can place my bed because of the doors and the layout, and that one wall where my bed is has one small window on the side. How can I achieve symmetry if I only have one window on one side of the bed? It looks weird to have drapes only one side of the bed.

It may look weird to you, but that’s often done in the industry. You address one window, and what happens below (nightstands, table lamp) can be mirrored on the opposite side and that’s how you achieve balance Gina. You may go one step further and place an art piece above the opposite nightstand to achieve visual harmony with the window. Hope that helps!

Great video. I've tried sateen sheets, and while very comfortable, I found that they start pilling after a period of time. Is there a certain fabric content I should be looking at that maybe doesn't do this?

Oh interesting! I’ve never had this issue. Stonewashed linen is my new current favorite- I can see myself rotating with the sateen.
