I am a practicing engineer. Just stumbled upon this video while looking for something else but after watching it I could not resist to appreciate your efforts and side by side a suggestion that we do not calculate figures upto 4 digits in civil & structural engineering. You just round them off by either single digit or by two beyond the decimal that to only if charts/table in code are following one or two digits. Reinforcement is never calculated in decimals. So all good just take care of these small but important aspects. Cheers

Thank you for sharing this beautiful lecture But I have one small doubt , I think modular ratio is a property that is dependent on the strength of material to bear stress, so i think it is 1 divided by __MR = str(cncrt)/240__ Also neutral axis is dependent on the steel so i think it is 1 - ( STR (ST) / MR * STR (CONCRT))

sir your lectures have been very helpful for me being an architecture student. i had a doubt, please if you kindly revert back. pg 37 tells we cannot assume the ratio to be more than 20. why are we assuming it as L/15. why 15 as denominator. and why are we taking the effective cover as 30 when we previously assumed as 25mm. what is the range of our assumption. please let me know. im confused and stuck.

First of all I thank you for watching my lectures and I am happy my lectures are useful for you. Coming to your question, page number 37 is with respect to deflection limits and it says it should not be greater than 20 as denominator increases you depth goes on decreasing which is dangerous, so i had taken less than 20. Cover it depends on environmental conditions, for normal environment we generally keep 20 to 50 mm for beams, it varies with different structural members.
