Hello technical loot, you are absolutely correct, but if you read it carefully it has been mentioned on page 39 of IS 456-2000 that for shorter spans upto 3.5 meters with mild reinforcement ie Fe250 and we have to multiply by 0.8 if we use HYSD ie Fe 415 and 500, but in this problem short span itself is 4m that is why i have not taken page 39 value, i hope this clarification solves your doubt, thanks for watching and keep supporting

Hello Sir, I'm Vivek Katkar from Maharashtra.. If we take d = 120mm then the basic value of L/d ratio comes out to be 33 whereas in IS Code, the value should not be more than 20 for Simply Supported Slab.. If we take L/d ratio as 20, then d=200mm. But the criteria of Minimum reinforcement of 0.12% does not get satisfied for d=200 mm. Therefore, the problem remains unsolved.. Please Guide...

Have to ask you about Step one where in IS 456:2000 page 37 was made as a reference from your end however there is a note in Page 39 clause 24.1 of IS 456:2000 stating for solid slabs as : NOTES For two-way slabs of shorter spans(up to 3m) with mild steel reinforcement, the span to overall depth ratios given below may generally be assumed to satisfy vertical deflection limits for loading class up to 3 kN/m square• Simply supported slabs 35 Continuous slabs 40 For high strength deformed bars of grade Fe415, the values given above should be multiplied by 0.8 in this lecture class the span length is more than 3m hence, will this be the case to be considered or what ??? What happens if you don't reduce the depth from 200 mm to 120 mm and just continue with 200 mm?

Sir , for the given problem if we keep the effective depth as 200 mm and take cover 30 mm (Ast)x is greater than Ast minimum but (Ast)y is less than Ast minimum. Please guide further with the difficulty.

actually span wise we have to check ast min, most of the cases we get provided ast greater than min ast but as in your case its better to put (Ast)y as min ast to be on safer side

Sir why are we multiplying 1.5 to W to get Wu. Is 1.5 factor of safety of something?

It is factor of safety (FoS) i will try to make detail video on factor of safety

Design of 02 way slab is explained elaborately with required codal provisions, however it is not understood why factored load/moment is not taken into account in the design.

Because it is limit state design where highest factor that can be considered is 1.5 as per IS code

Thanks for teaching I have a doubt Span/overall depth = 35*0.8 = 25 For two way slab (Pg no 39 as per IS 456:2000) But you put span/effective depth = 20 Why?

Hello Mahmood, i got your doubt, whatever you said is correct but only applicable for shorter spans upto 3.5m where as in video the shorter span itself is 4m therefore we cannot use values given on page 39 (point number 2) that is why i have taken point number 1 where it says span/effective depth. Also i Congratulate you for becoming member of channel, please mail me at avbaikerikar@gmail.com for sending benefits through mail
