30X40 Design Workshop

30X40 Design Workshop

6 жыл бұрын

A guided tour of my design studio: 30X40 Design Workshop. The final installment in the studio series and a detailed look at all the tools, organization, equipment, layout strategies and implements I use each day in my architecture practice and to create videos for the KZbin channel.
You’ll learn where I sourced my furniture, why I organize things the way I do, why I fly the Norwegian flag (and what’s behind it) and hear how such a simple building concept can influence the routines, productivity and rituals of daily life in the design studio.
If you’re curious about the design process, how creatives organize their spaces and want a peek at my most prized possessions, this is for you.
Smash that like button (it really does help)...and thanks as always for watching! Cheers...

Much respect to you. Changing a career path in college led to 25 years of conducting investigations where the details were often within the minutia. Life changing events led me back to architectural design. Research led me this channel which outlines the process in a way that is perfectly tuned, comforting and satisfying. The six string was hung up years ago as life changed. Yet never forgotten. Tool and Fibonacci are inherently unique within design and music. The presence of black is as familiar as a rainy day. Every video is an inspiration and a very happy place that reveals the many creative ideas that have been cataloged over my lifetime. Thank you!

Mr mouth ~ For me, it was a lot about where I wanted to see myself in the future. Could I see myself having an architecture or engineering company? It also had a lot to do with what type of architect I would become if I chose architecture: residential or commercial. Whether or not you become an architect is up to you. Whether you want to succeed in life or not is up to the choices you make. No matter what you choose as long as you make good choices after that determines whether or not you succeed! And maybe you can one day live in your dream home doing what YOU want to do!

Loved the way how you have blended old items obviously having sentimental values with modern equipments without compromising on functionality, its like every item in your studio has a story to tell. It reminded me of Sir Norman Foster, in his interview to Louisiana channel, saying that architecture is full of different stories, a story about its construction, a story of aesthetics, etc. Thanks for the video, you are true inspiration Eric! 🤘

Currently trying to set up a landscape architecture design studio at home. Presently everything is literally all over the house; I use many work surfaces in living, dining, kitchen areas. Finding your video tips very helpful. 24x36 models are cumbersome to store, trying to devise a stackable, thin lightweight shelf system somewhere..maybe suspended in garage; or under hard, plastic cozy dust covers for a visual display...in ceiling corners of house. Thank you.

love your vids, eric, .... authentic in every way .... kind of the design process in (a) real life in 3d and sound - - and from my point of view, i enjoy experiencing your learning/growth/evolution spontaneously, in unplanned ways ....... What a pity it would be to miss and not marvel at the power and role of spontaneity in our individual and collective design process ... for example, the delight you take in de-constructing your work/meeting surface and re-inventing the space is irresistible and inspirational!! ... and i know this first hand, as i have also done virtually the same thing .....

you taught me how to organise for purpose and function in a small space. I love how it's space is lit up mainly by sunlight, helps give you a feeling of motivation to do something to start the day. This barn type set up really gives it a chance to have so many purpose in one place. I'm also designing something for my own assignment and this motivates me. Thank you very much for sharing this. Also something to add on, once i've saved up enough money, I would also like to create my own personal workshop. One that would separate my home and workspace, maybe when I have a family I would also like it to functional for my kids to use. Though I live in a city area, it'll be a little hard to find this sort of big wide space attached to my apartment, it's an idea that i would really hope I can make come true. Again, thank you very much for sharing this.

I love how the studio just evolves around your everyday needs, your needs Architecturally and your hobbies, which I assume is heavy rock and roll; I think it provides a balance between your work and personal life. To the beautiful choice of wood and to the contrasting yet simple colour of white painted at the top to give it a lighter and more spacious look. This place is clearly perfect for what you need, you didn’t have anyone to copy or to learn from studio design wise - you made it your own and I truly praise you for that. Also your videos are aesthetically beautiful, they are well shot and choreographed. Keep the good content rolling. :)
