Something I noticed about Mr Horus is that his Wolf taxadermy on his shoulder Deteriorates as Horus falls further from Grace in the art. When Horus is Warmaster of The Luna Wolves his wolf is beautiful and has lovely brushed fur. When he leads the Sons of Horus his wolf is way more matted and the pure fur has become more dirty looking. When we finally get to full Chaos Horus, the wolf is decomposing and his skull is showing in some art. I think that is a fun little bit of visual story telling.

59:37, the Sons of Horus are one the few legions where is justified to have characters looking like the primarchs, in lore one of the Horus gene seed particularity is that some legionaries end up having their faces transformed to look like Horus, that is the origin of the "Sons of Horus" name, in the Mournival, at the time Loken was introduced, the only one with that gene seed flaw was Horus Aximand also called Little Horus, that gene seed flaw was also a kind of pride to some legionaries that called themselves the "true sons", also the scars on Horus Aximand are from when a White Scars Legionaire cut of his face, his face was reattached but it was somewhat paralyzed (that's why in the art you can see the corner of the mouth and his left eye being a bit "droopy" I guess) No other legion has as pronounced of a "you look like dad now" thing, Raven Guard, Salamanders and Night Lords are mostly eyes and Skin tone, not facial structure or racial features, the Space Wolves and the White Scars tend to recruit from a single worlds, where people have more distinct features, but at the time of the Primaris, as marines were sent to the legions to fill their ranks, more diverse characters are to bee expected also. IT'S MY OPINION that a single world still would have more than just a handful of distinct features and skin tones, even if thei are worlds with a single biome (that is also a really dumb trope, but is not exclusive to warhammer) SPOILERS for the 20th bellow they are implied to undergo surgery to look like their primarch, not relying only on gene seed

My unmeasurable gratitude n appreciation goes to you all the way from Ukraine. I was dreaming bout jumping into Warhammer as a hobby ever since i was 10 years old. Time forward and i am 22 y.o. Architecture student who, happens so, works at tabletop retail shop with Warhammer bein one of the main products and i finally tipped my toes into these waters... Well, actually I've bomb jumped into it😅 this hobby on par with lego helps me through war to keep my sanity cool. And such channels as yours accompanies me self with that path. Design vs lore are one of the best series I've seen on YT. You help me both with my plastic addiction and with understanding and feeling of design choices which are very helpful with my university. I watch your videos from a to z when i see them pop on notifications. During work, during home work, while subway time (i wish i could listen during painting, but unfortunately i can't find time to finish minis but building is already heart warming process for me😅). Here's a bit of lore! The 16th legion were the first to tame the colonies of the moon or luna. When they surrendered, they asked the emperor to call off his wolves. That is how they received their first name! It is also where the fifth legion, the white scars, modeled their armor after.

However, did you know that two splinter warbands of the Black Legion, the True Sons and the Sons of the Eye keep the former iconography and armor scheme after Ezekyle Abaddon proclaimed himself the new master of the XVI th Legion. They refused his rule, and were branded by the new Black Legion as "Thrice-Cursed Traitors." The Sons of the Eye have a large cut through the Eye of Horus icon to symbolize "the blindness of Horus that had led his Legion to its near-destruction."

59:34 horus aximand face is full of stitches because at some point hid face was peeled off, an immense insult to him and his ego. On the racial 'problem' it is true to an extent that the gene seed changes the host to match the primarch features, but it's not a 100% thing all of the time and skin colour is not always affected (even in raven guard and night lords). The member of the mournival that died, mr chadness himself hastur sejanus was black skinned and silver haired. Salamanders are a bit of an exception as the skin pigment organ they have is defective and unlike normal space marines who become much darker skinned fast when exposed to high amount of radiation but also clear that added pigments quickly (like a white skinned astarte might become olive skinned and slowly return to initial shade) they don't clear the excess pigment. Being based only on nocturne, a planet exposed to immense radiations, they assume that ashen skin immediatly. Terran born salamander before landing on nocturne had a huge variety of skin shades depending on radiation exposure they suffered. Also the skin shade of the marine is more likely depending on the recruitment location population composition, the geneseed rarely change that as described in devastation of baal where various chapters of sanguinius had resemblance to him while keeping skin variety. As a side note some of the first black marines written about are from fenris, as there are a few black skinned populations even there.

Regarding the Moon symbol on the Knee Early on, In greek mythos Hecate is the goddess of the New Moon, Artemis is goddess of the Half moon and Selene is Goddess of the Full moon, so i think sunny was onto something there.

@@WhatareyouPaintingnow It's not a completely universal split, as with anything in greek mythology all the different cities have their different takes, stories and traditions (for instance in very late greek periods Selene was barely mentioned at all and the only moon goddess that was recognized en masse was Artemis.) but this one seems to be an overarching theme and going much further is really getting into the weeds.

Another thing about Marines looking like their primarchs: even among strains of gene-seed where this becomes even more pronounced (Blood Angels, Sons of Horus, Alpha Legion, etc.) you still see quite a bit of variation, and can still discern between individuals. This is because ultimately, a space marine still looks more or less how they would've without the implants. All the gene-seed does to your appearance is it skews you toward your primarch's appearance, it just doesn't turn you into a perfect face clone. There's a reason why we can see the differences between Titus, Leandros, Sidonis, Acheran, Calgar, and Guilliman. There's a reason why you see so many different hair colours among Space Wolves, with them coming as Blonde, Red-haired, and Black-haired, even though Leman Russ was blonde. Even with the Salamanders, which are brought up for their black skin and red eyes, it's implied that it's more of an effect of living on Nocturne and recruiting from the Nocturnian population, rather than being a direct byproduct the gene-seed itself.
