THANK YOU!🎉I studied textile design in the 90s in Austria and liscensing sounds like the way to go now. We used to sell our designs with high commisions taken out by agents and no rights on future sales. How do you set up liscensing?

Thank you very much for the video, I would like to know if you usually pay a fixed amount for the chosen designs or if it is for royalties, or both, thank you for helping us.

Such a nice and colourful collection, thank u for sharing youre skills. I have one question, when you have a good repeat, can you always scale the size for youre clients, for example big flowers of 100% to 50% than printing on textile?
@LaurenLesley2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! 🥰 With raster (Photoshop) files, you can always scale down but not up from the original size. If you opt to work in vector, you can scale infinitely up or down.

Thank you soo much for all the advice. Very stratight to the point! Loved it!!! Your designs are amazing!!! I just need some advice. I have graduated as a textile designer but I stopped designing for a long time and I lost momentum, I am going back to it now. How many drawings to you normally do? and how many fabrics do you advice to do? Thanks
@LaurenLesley11 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I will generally design 5-10 original designs and also do several color ways especially for coordinates. Multi-colored hero prints don't usually need color ways. From there, the company I license with will choose which designs they want - they don't always pick everything. I hope that helps!! :)

Thanks, Lauren for this video, I enjoyed it a lot and hope to be working on a collection. How do you do the research before deciding on a Collection?
@LaurenLesley Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. For my research, I typically land on a theme or trend first. I use Pinterest a lot and will look at both patterns, illustrations, and photography for inspiration. I also look at Instagram, different blogs like Honestly WTF, Patternbank, Spoonflower, Etsy, Society 6, etc! I’m also a big fan of buying books if there’s a particular period I’m interested in. Hope that helps!

Hello Lesley, beautiful work! I loved that you showed us your sketchbook. The colors looks great and vibrant. Are you using Posca markers or some others? Thank you, Nela
@LaurenLesley2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nela! Thanks so much. 🥰 I typically use acrylic gouache or pen & ink. With paintings, I edit in Photoshop, but with ink drawings I edit in Illustrator. Hope that helps!

Hi Lauren, amazing video content! I just wanted to know if you have to actually print your designs on fabric for pitching to companies or can you just show the digital designs or have them printed on paper for a physical portfolio
@LaurenLesley3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! I just pitch the digital designs. No need to print them yourself. ;)

I would like to learn more about licensing my patterned digital art prints to a local manufacturer, any advice for a TOTAL NEWBIE?!
@LaurenLesley2 жыл бұрын
Awesome, and best of luck! My advice is to just keep making new designs and don't give up. Licensing is a difficult arena to break into. If you aren't having success right away, I would try working with clients or on freelance projects first to learn the industry and see what sells! Pay attention to best sellers on sites and always do lots of research for design, trend, and color ways. :)

What is a hero print and blender print?
@LaurenLesley3 жыл бұрын
A hero print is the main print. It's usually more complex and multi-colored, able to coordinate with other simpler, 2 color prints. The blender is usually monochromatic with more negative space between motifs. It's a quieter print and pairs nicely with a hero print. It's designed to let the hero print be the star of the show! :)

Where can i buy your fabric?
@LaurenLesley2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! You can ask a local fabric store to carry the Belize collection from PBS Fabrics (Paint Brush Studio Fabrics). It's also supposed to be on Fabric.com, but I'm not seeing it. I'm going to contact PBS Fabrics directly and see if they can tell me another option. Hang tight!
