You would think the top priorities would be the confirmation of a new VP and SCOTUS Justices followed by filling a cabinet. Once the basics of the 3 branches are reestablished then you can start moving on Legislation...especially Legislation with Constitutional implications that a significant portion of the Citizenry (on one side or another) dont want.

I pretty sure if I am not wrong they had just barely filled the senate and house with temporary members and the only thing they were missing were cabinet members and the justices that needed the legislative branch to confirm.

Fiction aside, I've always felt that Tennessee was always in reach for the Democrats on guns if they ran the right candidate. It's not exactly Mississippi or North Dakota where people hunt for their livelihood; TN has a vibrant service economy as well and a highly educated population compared to other red states. It also has a lot of major cities, so it's heavily urbanized. I really do think it's possible to get TN into swing state status with the right candidate and investment. Also, I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH! I just wish our real politicians had the courage of fake-Senator Vandenberg.

1 thing I still don't get, how such a divisive bill with a vote that they knew will come down to the wire.... Why wouldn't Kirkman nominate and confirm his VP first before pushing for the bill?? If he has a VP here, he won't need the widow's vote, the vote would have been a 50-50, with his VP to tie-break the result.

It IS possible, just a nightmare for logistics. Even then you could only track rifled weapons - ones you can run both ballistics and serial numbers on. Require all weapons be registered. Then upon sale, have ownership be transferred the same way you transfer a vehicle - except require the background check before ownership can be transferred. Make the original owner responsible for the weapon until that is done.

Moss was a moderate republican like Kirkman was but after Kirkman canned him for back dealing with the Russians without approval and killing the ongoing investigation he decided to run for the republican nomination. Kirkman would have brought in the independents and moderates and the democratic candidate would bring in the liberals. So moss had to shift and embrace the far right so he could win the nomination and the presidency.

Just started watching this series and got to this particular episode last night, and I have to say it freaking pissed me off. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, with today's media and entertainment what they considered to be a moderate independent 30 years ago would have been considered a socialist. They portray all those individuals in favor of crapping on our constitutional rights as so thoughtful and courageous. The individual standing in favor of defending our second amendment rights is of course a duplicitous jerk.
@nevermore7285
@nevermore7285 4 жыл бұрын
Son of Liberty While I don’t agree with some of the extremes gun control people go to, I also have never really gotten the constitution right thing. The problem with the second amendment is that is was made during a time where the best rifles and pistols were muskets and such, not the automatic guns and large round clips we have. They didn’t have the same issues with guns with do now, and so it is natural to alter it to fit the current times.
@saramcnick7022
@saramcnick7022 3 жыл бұрын
They weren’t trying to do something extreme like take guns from everyone or remove gun rights from the constitution. They were instituting a background check to make sure that certain people don’t have access to that kind of weaponry. Such as someone with a history of violence or abuse, or a person known to have a mental illness. It’s not “crapping on a constitutional right” it’s putting rules in place to keep that right to people who are of sound mind that won’t fo around just hurting people with the weapons they have access to
@rockymntnliberty
@rockymntnliberty 3 жыл бұрын
@@nevermore7285 Actually at that time they did have newly renovated rapid-fire guns, so they were aware that that could be something people would have, but was not relevant as the second amendment was designed to assure that the American public your average Joe Blow had an equivalent Firepower to that that would be marshaled by any potential standing army. If you look at the thought processes of the founding fathers on this subject oh, you would see that they probably would favor your average Joe Blow having access to an M1 Abrams or an F-16. They guaranteed are right with the Second Amendment to make sure that the power of the peoples of the United States would be equal to or greater than any military force.

@@saramcnick7022 What you were describing is your basic red flag law that has been passed in certain parts of the country these red flag laws sound like a reasonable things to do. Reasonable that is until SWAT team kicks your door in in the middle of the night sees that you have a gun and shoots and kills you, or you hearing an intruder in the middle of the night shoot and kill one of them before they kill you, and all a result of a neighbor who got pissed off at you because you yelled at his kid to stay off your damn lawn. All this without any due process except after the fact. Oh yes mr. Johnson we kicked in your door scared your family to death took away a constitutional right but you can hire a lawyer and possibly get it back once you prove your innocence after your conviction. These red flag laws are not constitutional period the end. you might get some moronic judges to say they're okay, but they do not follow the Constitution.

@@CathrineMacNiel Civil rights transcend time. You also have a freedom of press today, regardless of if you are writing with a quill or on a modern computer. Technology advances, but the civil right stays the same. Quoting Heller pgs 55-56; "It may be objected that if weapons that are most useful in military service-M-16 rifles and the like-may be banned, then the Second Amendment right is completely detached from the prefatory clause. But as we have said, the conception of the militia at the time of the Second Amendment’s ratification was the body of all citizens capable of military service, who would bring the sorts of lawful weapons that they possessed at home to militia duty. It may well be true today that a militia, to be as effective as militias in the 18th century, would require sophisticated arms that are highly unusual in society at large. Indeed, it may be true that no amount of small arms could be useful against modern-day bombers and tanks. But the fact that modern developments have limited the degree of fit between the prefatory clause and the protected right cannot change our interpretation of the right." www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/07pdf/07-290.pdf
