My favorite grey is Knitting Needles from Sherwin Williams. It always looks great, especially up against white trim.

Thank for your paint choosing color video. Even though it is 2 years old, I really need it. I had a major flood in my home 1/23/21 & need 5 rooms done from scratch. Was afraid I would make a mistake & have to live with it. You gave me some direction to go with. Thank you again. Love all your videos, really great ideas.

I go to estate sales quite frequently. One of the houses I went to had beautiful colors. I simply went to the basement, and checked the paint cans, and chose my colors that way. This way you see the actual colors on the walls, as well as how they flow.

For large rooms I like muted colors like eggshell, beige, tans. Nothing too bold. However I once did my kitchen and breakfast room bright red and yellow---coordinating the walls. I loved it. I also do crafts and tend to choose brown, black, and turgoise. Just not brave enough to do walls in those colors. I’ve been doing crafts for about 4 years and gravitate to colors I mentioned and flowers. I don’t have a silloette, but sure wish I did. Thanks for asking. Keep showing off your work! cb

😂love the bloopers and the pretty woman clip. My favorite paint color I've used is pewter grey! Rented a house where one bedroom was entirely painted turquoise. It was an instant headache everytime I walked in. 2 coats of pewter grey gave it a very light purple hue. My girls loved it and then I used the rest in my room for that true color. I'll be using it again when I finish rebuilding our forever home!! Both my boys' rooms will be a pale sage green. The youngest 2 girls have this pale pink color that looks purple when the sun sets and my oldest daughter wants white. We all decided on a blue-grey for the main bath and a soft pale yellow for the guest bath lol. All the other rooms will be shades of grey because it's my fave neutral😁

We moved from suburban Seattle to rural northern Vermont, from ultra contemporary high style stone, glass and metal, black white and grey to an enormous (to us, anyway - 18 rooms) pre-Civil War brick federal style farmhouse. Fortunately the property came with a huge barn, because that’s where all my west coast furniture still sits, a decade later. At first I painted everything light, fairly neutral shades of sand, grey and celadon as I scoured auctions and collected a house full of antiques, mostly cottage and Westlake Victorian. Then one day I painted the entryway dark slate grey. We loved it. The kitchen is now a deep sage green. Family room is olive green. Library is a deep rich tan. Guest rooms are olive, deep red, darker plum, parlor is a gorgeous grey-blue-green deep color called ‘Native Turquoise’. One bathroom is chocolate brown, two others as well as dining room, sitting room, a guest room, etc. are wallpapered. Woodwork and wainscoting (and there’s a lot of it) are white. Our floors are either wood, tile, marble or slate depending on the room. We are fortunate that for its age our house has plentiful (46) huge windows. I know it sounds like a carnival from a horror movie, but we have found that by using saturated, historic colors our house just looks ‘right’. When we make a change, and get it right, it doesn’t look like a change, it looks like it’s always been that way. So after this long, rambling comment I guess what I’m trying to say is, I had to live here for several years and let the house kind of inform me as to colors. In every case as I repaint I am using bolder and richer colors. I would never have had the courage to start out with such strong colors, but now can’t imagine going back to bland vanilla. I’m often asked who we used for a decorator (in an appreciative tone, not one of shocked horror) so that helped embolden me to make brave choices. And at the bottom of it all, it’s only paint. Missteps are inexpensive to change, and all things considered not too much work. The take away : Don’t be afraid. It’s only paint.

Very good advice! I've built two homes and renovated several others. I did the total opposite of your advice and have struggled to find comforters, accent pieces and rugs. I am getting ready to redo my guest room and found my comforter first and then my paint color! The color is great and the room will look very pulled together once finished.

I really want to do a grayish beige. I know the trend is agreeable gray, but the price! What is a good price, or what brand paint do you suggest that's durable and cost effective? Also, I'm redoing my kitchen and want to do a lighter/whitish cabinet with wood counters and floating shelves. What paint and color do you suggest for that look?
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
I always buy the top-of-the-line paint at either Home Depot or Lowe’s… You can get any color you want mixed there. So if you go in there and tell them you want agreeable gray you can have them mix it for you in their paint. Which is a lot cheaper. I hope that helps!💕

Thank you for this info I understand the inspiration piece but if I am painting the outside of my house how do I choose? I want a neutral house with a red door. We have shutters also and I can’t decide what color for them. I don’t want them to match the door. Help please
@AbbysRetroRescue5 жыл бұрын
Great advice! I agree, an inspiration piece is a must! Most of our home is painted with Restoration Hardware Silver Sage, so we had a color match done at Sherwin Williams when our local store closed. Have you tried using their ColorSnap app?! It’s awesome!! I recently made a video about that, if you’re interested. I’m so glad I met you today doing the Look For Less Challenge 😊
@designedtothenines5 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Silver sage is literally one of my favorite colors of all time. I have had that color in all of our homes for the past decade. In fact, I am getting ready to paint my guest bedroom in our new home in that color. Always color matched of course. I haven't lived close enough to a Restoration Hardware to buy it there and I don't know that I would anyway.

Very interested in your opinion: Are “accent walls” out of date? Either done in a complimentary color to the overall pallet, or done in a wallpaper/fabric. I do my absolute best to avoid either sticking to what is only “trending” or having the pendulum swing in the opposite direction and by avoiding anything trendy. Regarding home design as well as fashion, I believe that if it brings a smile to my face and a song in my heart, then I go for it. The saying “Our home, our family, our story.. this is US” is the rule I follow, as well as wanting each person who may walk through our door to feel at home. **However**, there are certainly things a person can do in design which truly dates a home/room and can do so to a level of distraction... and that, I do NOT want. We have a large home, and when you come in our front door, you are entering our foyer - over looking the formal living room and formal dining room beyond. Our formal living room ceiling is vaulted, and although we have a fireplace and mantle which spans from floor to ceiling in that room, if all the walls in that combined area (fl and fd are separated by a pony wall with glass insets) are painted in one color, your eye has a difficult time finding a place to land. The entire dynamic of that area is so difficult to explain without verbose dissertation, so I’ll just conclude with: I’m kind of stuck. The area feels “ungrounded”, and it’s driving me nuts. I’m feeling that one of the only solutions is to paint the fd room wall and the far opposite wall in either coordinating color or wallpaper.

I have very strange floors in this apartment. burgundyish-Brown and yellowish-brown (dark and light brown) checkered tile. There is a brick wall thats been painted white as an accent wall. I do not know what to paint the walls. any suggestions? right now it has kind of a yellow cream color but I hate it. I wanted to just paint it all white but I keep hearing that because the molding is white it will not look good. the whole apartment has sort of that 70s brown vibe. I want to go with a victorian minimalist vibe to match my busts and plants. any suggestions would be great please and thank you.
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
If you have a lot of odd colors going on in your apartment and you like the minimalist look, all white can be a great look. You bring in interest by adding texture and cool art. If you feel like you want a little color on the walls still to warm it up, I would suggest Revere Pewter as it’s kind of a warm gray (griege) color and it may help tone down some of the other colors. Buy a sample of each color and paint it on the wall and live with it a couple days before you buy . Hope that helps!

What if I'm remodeling someone's mansion for short term/weekend rentals? It's gotta be a more generally liked colors/layout.. How do I choose if I don't want just my personal taste or some random interior designer to charge me for theirs?
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
Pick out the bedding or the pillows and furniture you plan on using first and then pull colors from those items... if those things are to bold for the walls, use a much lighter version of the colors. Hope that helps! Sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck!😃

What’s a accent wall?
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
It’s basically just a feature wall where you do some thing a little bit different to add a little pizzazz. It could be a wallpaper wall… It could be trim it could be a pop of color. Anything to add a little drama and draw focus.
