Designer Indian Embroidery - A Look Inside A Workshop (Documentary Short)

A small karkhana (workshop) in Ahmedabad, India where skilled artisans patiently stitch elaborate designs for exclusive designer sarees.
Initially Tufan didn't want to let me film their shop because they were embroidering for brand name designers and (understandably) did not want to put his business at risk. After some pleading that I was just making a personal documentary short film about the art, he eventually let me film and also brought out some of their best work. He was kind, helpful and even a bit shy during the interview. I was happy to showcase some amazing work and talent.

Peace and blessings from. Dallas Tx. Ms or sir Patel..Tejas is the mexican word to Texas....and years back I worked for Mr Patel from Gujarat. Somewhere there is a connection. Seeing young man doing this kind of work should inspire other men all over the world to work rather than to take a handout. In some countries embroidery is a pastime/hobby mostly by women even though some do make a living out of it. This is a 5 year old video but I pray that these young men have gone out and made a fantastic living for themselves due to their skills they learned. I bought several sari's from a lady who didn't want them anymore they had hand beading in metallic thread and beading unlike anything I had ever seen she offered them for $20 dollars each.. i told her my dear that is not enough this is art and so beautiful its worth so much more...

I came here wondering how such beautiful embroidery work is done. I'd love to learn it, maybe make a living out of it, but not in such conditions (there's barely any natural light in the atelier, and apparently only one window to ventilate). I wonder now if those artisans get some kind of health insurance for any wrist lesion they would develop from their job.

It is a beading needle. Any sewing or craft shop will have them.

I think he is doing some design with tiny chain stitches with a special needle they use in India using metallic floss, like tambour embroidery, and then a guy is putting some gold braid on top.
