I love that i've come back to your older videos and using what i've learned from your newer ones to do these things more efficiently like using punchit for the steps and hardops for the arrays etc.

😁 Great use of videos like this. They are designed to not use paid for addons but it's aways great to know how much faster the addons make these processes.

Thanks a lot. Hope the pace is about right. Its hard to strike a balance between explaining enough but not making it overwhelming.

@@ArtisansofVaul Blender always seems overwhelming but I think you're doing a good job with this. Calling out the keys you're pressing on a regular basis is extremely helpful even though you can generally see it on screen if you look for it.
@ArtisansofVaul3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, until you get used to the shortcuts Blender seems to have so much too it. But after a while you start to get a hang of them. I'm having to edit these videos a LOAD as I keep misscalling the keys (especially shift and control) as I don't even think about what I'm pressing now, my fingers do it without conscious thought).

@@ArtisansofVaul Seriously, though. I'd last put down Blender about a year ago and thought I was done with it but you've inspired me to pick it back up again. It's really helpful when somebody is doing work that is directly relevant to your interests and you don't have to sift through a video to find nuggets that might apply to what you're trying to create.

Around the 13:26 mark you talk about bevelling and eyeballing. Heads up for future watchers you can indeed type in the distance you require to be more accurate. Thought would point that out :)
@ArtisansofVaul2 жыл бұрын
Good point thanks. You can also bevel as a modifier so that is it non-destructive which is really useful, when applying to just one edge you can use a vertex group or if you have it Hard Ops makes it really easy. You can find some more detail on bevelling here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5WbqJJ5htOWhas

I'm now actually following through your tutorials on my own and I must say I appreciate you showing the problems that show up for no apparent reason. I ran into an odd ALT selection issue that really bothered me but since you ran into a similar issue later I realized that it was just one of those things and shouldn't feel like I necessarily did anything wrong.
@ArtisansofVaul3 жыл бұрын
Yeah at points Blender can react in odd ways and learning how to deal with them was a bit of a pain so I like to include things. I will need to do some specific videos on fixing issues at some point as they can be one of the most frustrating things and really put people off. But once you know what you're doing you can approach them pretty systematically

@@ArtisansofVaul What was your path to learning Blender?
@ArtisansofVaul3 жыл бұрын
I came to it after using sketchup but found it too limiting for some of the things I wanted to do. Other than that self taught and from videos online. Thats why I started the chanel as I wanted to share what I had found but also what I had had to work out myself as most of the Blender videos I have found focus on it for CG, not printing.
@JayAdan3 жыл бұрын
@@ArtisansofVaul It's really no wonder I vibe so well with you. Sketchup was my first experience as well. Though that was pre-3D printing. I did learn it for doing other things. Mostly previsualising model builds and stuff. Or planning out how to rework the placement of store fixtures. Anyway, when I got into 3D printing I didn't think Sketchup was going to do it for me (it's always been kind of janky) and tried out Tinkercad (way too simple) and 123D Designs (good, but too unstable and now not supported) but any time I tried anything more complex I kept hitting a wall.
@ArtisansofVaul3 жыл бұрын
@@JayAdan I may have a treat for you in a video at some point then. There is an add on that is currently (I think) in its beta phase of testing, so there are some glitches with it but the general concept is there and its mostly working, that allows Blender to mimic some of the Sketchup workflow nicely, like being able to quickly and easily add lines/vertex to an object and it automatically divide the faces. Its quite fun but I need to get my head around the limitations a bit more before I make a video on it so I can be clear with its uses but also where you cant use it.

great tutorial. I'm having a problem. On those lines we extrude inwards on the handrails, I'm getting a cube form on the corners where the extrusions cross. is there a way to delete them? I think they're flipped normals.

I really like the tutorial but unfortunately I've encountered a problem with the extruding part: the extrude manifold function is doing the same thing as the normal extrude creating this grey mess over it. I have one of the last versions of blender so I can't really explain what could be the problem and it's a shame cause it blocks me from continuing to follow this series.

you just dissolve something and I have no idea how to do that and then you're like 'press 2 to go into edge mode', yes, I know that is like super basic! lol
@ArtisansofVaul2 жыл бұрын
Both good questions. I might need to do a video on the dissolve function to cover it in more detail but the basics is that it removes something while trying to maintain the surrounding geometry where deleting it will remove everything attached to what you are deleting. To dissolve something select it and press Ctrl + X. Edge model is the model where you can select edges on the model. To get to it you need to be in Edit Mode (you presa Tab to swap between Object Mode and Edit Mode and then hit 2 at the top of your keyboard. I hope that helps clear those up.
