Wow, the passage at the end when you talk about the struggles you've been dealing with really moved me. I have been trough the same thing and always felt guilty about feeling bad since the others (from adults to my peers) saw me as "the one so intelligent he can do anything without efforts". And hear you talking about it and feeling bad about the disconnection you feel with others made me realize that I'm not alone to feel that way and it's ok. You made me realize I'm not crazy or anything feeling this. Thank you.

That finale was absolutely fantastic, really hit me in the feels. Many of my most beloved pieces of media are the ones that have helped me in my life, too, and I think you explained how important your number 1 pick was to you very well. Very personal stories like that aren't told very often, I feel, for understandable reasons. But they provide a very important perspective on what makes video games and media in general great, so I think it was an important thing to include in this case. This channel overall is a lot more valuable to me than many of the similar but larger channels I follow. Really appreciate it! I suffered from the disease of loving Gamefaqs Top 10's as a kid and using that to introduce me to new games and ideas, so I've tried to keep at least a Top 5 around since 2007 or so. And at that point I realized "... wow this is ALL Nintendo and I guess Banjo, isn't it?" I'm a sucker for cataloguing experiences like that; the Top 9 of this list has pretty much been set in stone since the end of 2017, just shuffling the position of each. #10 was a pretty contentious spot, though; I debated for a few days which game would get the cut out of the HM's list and the actual #10! Please do link me if you make your own though, I love seeing vids like these!

Ah God Hand, it's been a while since I saw this gem. Definetly one of my favorite action games of all time ^^ And, I have to admit, and that's coming from a guy that really doesn't like Nier:Automata and Yoko Taro, that your review of the game is probably the first one I've seen that didn't sound pretentious by simply going "Yoko taro is a genius and this game made me question my own existence". Boy I really gotta play MGS3 with my girlfriend, Metal Gear it's one of her favorite gaming franchises of all time, and Kojima probably her favorite gaming personality out there. We already played through MGS1, just gotta get around to the rest of them hahahah. Also, why am I balling my eyes out with Persona 4... again.... just from listening to the theme? Boy, the amount of love and interest to consume everything Persona or Shin Megami Tensei in general because of this game it's just wow. It's not the game that got me into RPGs, Legaia 2 being my first RPG played from start to finish, but it certainly was the one that made me a die hard fan for the genre. It was because of the SBFP crew recommending it that I got to discover one of my favorite games of all time. PS: nice Zubaz reference on the pokemon part. Nice to see one of my favorite SBFP memes still going strong

My Top 9 were pretty set in stone, but I went back and forth on my #10 for a while. But damn, being able to talk about God Hand more just feels GOOD. When they started talking on Castle SuperBeast on how Kamiya was feeling himself going "how could they give this game a 3? It's incredible" during a dev session, I knew I made the right decision. I like Automata as a character study as much as I do its broad strokes on philosophy and its underlying message. I think it's really powerful in that sense, but I always find that labeling it as an "artistic game" diminishes its quality. Saying WHY it does this is far more important in bridging that gap. I tend to find there's nothing that turns people away from a game faster than going "yo you gotta play this IT CHANGED MY LIFE" without giving a reason why. Makes 'em want to pick at flaws more. Makes me appreciate Yoko Taro as a director - he doesn't wanna talk philosophy. He wants to complain about his composer being more acclaimed than him and how his robot's butt has more polygons than Ocarina of Time. And then also put in all that junk toying with and deconstructing the nature of the self. And I think that's a much healthier approach. Oh dude absolutely. MGS3's a big favorite (... duh), but the whole franchise is just such a roller coaster of interesting ideas executed to such a wide range of success and failure. Metal Gear's just so damn INTERESTING, and like nothing else when it's at its best. And trust me, when I go out for jogs and the Smash Ultimate remix of "I'll Face Myself" plays, I often have to switch it quickly before I start crying. Was obviously so, so happy to get into the title, and it'll always be my favorite for just how intimate of an experience it is. And please, every Pikachu I get is named The Baz. Because he's in everything and dies in like two hits. ; ) Thank you so much for stickin' around and watching!

@@pyrrhickong hahahahhaha, didn't know about that Kamiya take on God Hand. I discovered the game when one of my brother's friends lent us the game and the rest is history. I agree with you that saying why the game is special (to you) is far more important than just singing its praises, sometimes without even playing the game itself. It's kinda like people with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I love the anime, but the amount of people on the fanbase that get obnoxious overhyping it and turn people off it's just awful. But I digress. Will I play or have an interest of playing this game or any of Yoko Taro's work? No, the fanboys I've met before, either in forums or IRL, left that much of a sour taste in my mouth. I also don't really enjoy Taro's "wacky persona" from when I see in interviews. HOWEVER, seeing your review and looking at the game with the perspective you gave in the comment makes me appreciate it more, and come on it was made by motherfucking Platinum Games for god' sake. Yeah, I discovered MGS when I got my PS3 and it came with MGS4 (yes, I'm one of those people Woolie gripes about). I thought "Hey, it's that Snake dude that showed up as a guest character in Brawl! Why is he old?" and got it alongside DMC4. And maaaan, I was hooked by the gameplay and the plot. Did I understand ANYTHING that was being said? Nope. And I guess for me it was part of the charm of it all. It felt like a mystery, and since I only had this game and DMC4 to play for some time, I did multiple playthroughs of it, paying more and more attention to what was being said. With each playthrough I understood a little bit more, like Snake being a clone, Big Boss being his dad, the basics. I even got around to reading the MGS1 comic book and loved it. However, the MGS games got in the backburner for me until I met my girlfriend, when she said "You played this shit all wrong!" and on our first annyversary gave me Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection.

I'm late to the party but man does Persona 4 hit me hard. Not the PS2 version specifically. I got it but my PS2 couldn't read the disk and my launch PS3 with backwards compatibility was long dead at that point. So, it sat in my collection. Then I had knee surgery and figured since I was going to be bed-ridden for a bit, why not pick up a Vita and finally give that Persona 4 (Golden) game a go. Wow, what a game. It's not only one of my favorite games ever but also got me to buy a Vita, probably the most underappreciated handheld ever made.
@pyrrhickong3 жыл бұрын
The Vita was stupidly good for how overlooked it was. Fantastic library with a ton of great exclusives, great value in being able to access the PS1 Classics and play a lot of PSN titles in general, really sleek design with a great screen. The UI was a little ugly and cumbersome, but the actual handheld was utterly fantastic. But yeah, glad you enjoyed!. I personally do prefer the PS2 version of Persona 4 due to little things (I feel like there's a bit too much padding in the scenes Golden added and the game's level curve is totally broken by a lot of the QoL features they added), but that's not to take away from how great of an experience that game is. I mean, it's my favorite, I can't badmouth it TOO much!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to Kirby as a Beat Em Up before. Neat
@pyrrhickong4 жыл бұрын
It's weird to think about, and the Dream Land series definitely isn't beat 'em ups so much as they are Wario Land-style puzzle platformers, but I definitely get the same kind of excitement I get from Streets of Rage or Turtles in Time in, say, Kirby Triple Deluxe. It's definitely in this weird, nebulous space with Battletoads where there ARE platforming elements (and Hell, I'd argue Battletoads has far more substantial platforming than KSS), but the way you approach enemies and bosses is completely divorced from its platforming roots. And I think if someone wanted to capitalize on what makes action-style Kirby games so special, it's in that moveset flexibility and how Kirby interacts with enemies more than it is purely level design.

Meh, I still prefer super star ultra. Playing super star kinda sucks ass compared to superstar ultra, gameplay, story, programming and graphics wise. Kumazaki improved the original incredibly throughtfully. The original really only has nostalgia and being important for kirby's history going for it Tho the finale of the video was really good wow!
@pyrrhickong4 жыл бұрын
I totally see that (except graphics - I'm not a big fan of Kirby's DS sprite compared to his SNES. Body is too small to show off the exaggerated expressions), but I just think the co-op is THAT important to the Super Star experience. As a single-player game, yeah, KSSU is fantastic, planted the seeds for the absolutely stellar direction Kumazaki would take the Kirby series in, Meta Knightmare Ultra is absolute aces, and it added a ton of character to King Dedede and invented Bandana Dee. But I just think that experience of either in-person couch or now online co-op means a ton for the design of Super Star, and multiplayer on handhelds outside of trading Pokemon just was never a real strong selling point in their lifetime (outside of maybe DS Download Play with Mario Kart DS on bus rides). And... yeah, also nostalgia, I'll admit that freely. Thank you so much for watching through, though! Really glad you enjoyed, especially that last bit!
@Fannintendociccio14 жыл бұрын
@@pyrrhickong I personally, alongside all other people I talked with so far, find the original sprites SUPER UGLY. Still charming, but it's truly abhorrent seeing them KNOWING how good ultra's sprites are. *Gags to dyna blade's Sprite* But ehy, that's personal opinion. About multiplayer, I never got the chance to play Ultra coop, but I did play super star coop online.... And that's that way how I realized how bad the game is to play compared to ultra. We literally gave up playing and instead completed 100% dreamland 3, which feels way better in the controls and graphics. But again, I hope you don't take my complains too seriously, if I grew up with the game myself, especially with someone else to play with, I would probably say the same and drown in nostalgia like you. And the game is by any means bad or not worthy of the placement! I WILL HOWEVER GIVE YOU 50 POINTS OF EFFORT BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY KNOW KUMAZAKI AND WHAT HE DID TO KIRBY'S LORE THANK GOD FINALLY A NOT-KIRBY KZbinR THAT KNOWS OF IT, KUDOS MAN, KUDOS. @@Fannintendociccio1 Nahhhh I totally get it, and I understand I'm in the minority here. If I grew up with KSSU and then went back to KSS and discovered ANYTHING felt different, I'd probably hate it. I just think the fundamentals of KSS are THAT good compared to everything else in its genre, and then the co-op pushes it over. And, a bit selfishly, I do wish that KSSU had more unique modes. Knightmare Ultra's fantastic, but Helper to Hero, True Arena, and Revenge of the King end up as permutations of already-existing modes (and even Knightmare Ultra leans into Revenge of Meta Knight's 'go fast' mentality a bit). That's not to say they're not GREAT (except maybe Helper 2 Hero outside of showing how busted TAC is), there was just a huge difference between KSS's original modes in how they handled and what aspects of Kirby's copy abilities they highlighted, whereas Ultra's added modes are more "what was already there, but HARDER". Again, nothin' wrong with that, and only a problem for someone who went through Super Star first and was playing Ultra as a remake. Just little nitpicks that nag at me. And hey, I think disagreeing's one of the most interesting things as long as it's civil, so thanks for bringin' out this conversation! And oh, trust me, 'Why Kirby Lore Is Cool' is definitely an idea I've had for a video for a while. Because damn if Kirby doesn't celebrate itself and corrupt its celebration into some of the coolest concepts around.
@Fannintendociccio14 жыл бұрын
@@pyrrhickong oh oh of course of course, if we are strictly talking about the games in the scope of the series' history, I absolutely agree with you. Super star is, again, extremely crucial in the series' history and evolution for both Kirby and smash. It's such an inctedibly clever game to come up with after 2 already incredibly original games. But I was mostly talking about the objective polish-ness the games taken by themselves have. In that pov, ultra has more modes, more stuff, better graphics, story, controls, programming, the whole package, minus the not as easy to use coop for D's reasons and nostalgia for older people. So ultra is probably overall better than the original from that. (I do agree helper to hero is nothing special tho ahahaha), like you said, superstar but a lot more. And, honestly, im really not dissing on the graphics because I played ultra first, because I played nightmare in dreamland first too, and adventure is actually STUNNING with the pixel art it uses that was cut/remade in the remake.
