Hi there! My name is Nathalie and I’m entering the field of social media management and it includes a whole lot of graphic design. I wanted to thank you for the education you’re putting out here! My journey with making graphic design more accessible started recently when using the color contrast standards from the WCAG to design an infographic for a newsletter. I plan to continue to learn and do my best to use these tools to make sure the messages I communicate can be received well by all people, not just some. Again, I appreciate your speciality and am looking forward to continuing to learn so I can be a better designer and digital communicator. 🎉

Great info!!! That makes sense why they started putting those bubble things on the ground. I never would have thought of someone not knowing where the street ended and started...

Thank you! :) It is interesting the things we don't think about if it doesn't affect us. This happens to me all the time!

This was very informative! I'm currently in school and we are learning about this right now 👍🤗

That is great to hear someone is teaching about the subject. What type of things are they teaching and how much depth? I had to teach myself everything so I am curious.

@@VIDesigner Yes! I'm in a graphic design program and we learned some things about making the web and apps more accessible (colour contrast, alt text for screen readers etc) Right now I have a project that's about making a grocery store app that would help ppl who may have disabilities.

@@VIDesigner We also learned much about inclusive design in the user-centred design but not so deep. I realized that there was a huge difference among blind users. Blind people include from whose reduced vision is the natural consequence of aging, to those with severe loss of vision or with partial or total blindness resulting from disease or accident, to those who have been blind from birth.

Wait. What about the kitchen cabinets? Is there a universal or inclusive design solution for them that you know of? I assume the stool is an accessibility design/solution?
@VIDesigner
@VIDesigner 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen any designs for cabinets dedicated to finding a solution for a wider range of heights. A big reason this would be helpful is cause when you move somewhere new and the cabinets don't work for you it is frustrating and expensive to change. The average kitchen works for the majority of people and then yes this is when accessibility tool can become handy such a stool to adapt a design to work for you. I think that is why custom cabinetry is so popular cause you can make it your own layout and such. I know this is common for people who are little people because an average kitchen just doesn't work for them. But it sure would be great to see

You’re first question regarding feeling something wasn’t designed for me- this video doesn’t include professional closed captions. The KZbin auto-generated captions do not accurately represent the spoken English language, includes errors, and makes deaf people wade-through inaccurate information.

This is great info! I've mostly focussed on accessibility in my graphic design and it was cool to hear about other design approaches :)

Yay! Great to hear that! This is what I have found among my fellow designers. It really isn't taught in design school.

Hello Angela, I'm glad I found your channel, it's very interesting and informative. I'll tell you, I'm a computer science student and I'm developing a project which is about a website similar to classroom for low vision users. It's for a college course. I would like you to help me because I feel somewhat stuck. please..

I was thinking about this earlier today. Many things are designed for long armed people. Stop the madness. Lol

Yes this is another big one! You are so right. Not everyone has the same length of arms!
