I am a long time crocheter. I wanted to tell you thank you for showing the hook placement for an normal stitch and then what and where the front and back loops are. It's very helpful for new crocheters to see this.

The slip stitch has that perfect knit look! Thank you! Another way you can avoid every second row having a "wrong" side, is look up "camel stitch".

A suggestion for anyone who has difficulty with that first stitch after turning.. when you come to the end of the row, chain one and BEFORE you turn you work put your hook in that 1st stitch turn and complete stitch.So much easier than realizing many rows later your work has become one stitch narrower.

I only have one look to go through for that 1st row slip stitch. I've even enlarged my screen. I finally learned to crochet last Jan but haven't gotten very far....still can't get the start of a hat. @DesignsbyPhanessa

it's hard to say because it depends on your tension and these ribbings have different stretch. The rule of thumb i use is SL ST: 3 sts for every 4 rows of ribbing SC ST: 1st for every row HDC: 3 sts for every 2 rows.

Hi. I'm a bit confused about the HDC method. After a row of SC, we chain two and turn over. Then should I HDC into the second back loop from the hook or the first back loop? Because at 8:26, you inserted your hook into the second chain.
@DesignsbyPhanessa
@DesignsbyPhanessa 2 жыл бұрын
Follow the chain 1 stitch. The very next “v” you see is the first stitch. Work into the back loop of that stitch. Good luck!

My set up for videos usually causes me to fumble.... and this is a handmade hook (see link in description box). It's not a furls hook. I actually don't own any of those so I can't say if they are good or not.

If you mean joining for a brim, I have tutorials for that too! 😆

There is a fourth way that's in between two and three. I'm not sure what it's called. Instead of doing half double, you yarn over. Insert your hook through the back loop. Then grab a loop and pull it through the two loops that are on on the hook. I am not sure what this is called it makes a very stretchy fabric also. I think someone called it maybe a double slip stitch through the back loop. Cool video thank you for showing me all these. I forgot about the first one that once a tighter stretchy fabric looks just like a stocking it stitch. For knitting but it's stretchy

I wish all videos are like this stratight-forward and simple not a lot of garbage self-talk. I also like that you show how one might do it incorrectly and the correct way, showing the contract is helpful.

Are you picking up the spine of the stitch together with one side of the V loop?

Do you mean the edges? I’m going just through the back loop for every stitch.

Which one would be the best to crohet into the side of? Trying to figure out a circle skirt pattern, would love a ribbed waistband though!
