I have lost 3 of my children, they perished by no fault of their own. The despair left me angry and lost for many years. Then one day I encountered a homeless man, he was very tall with grey almost white hair & beard and his skin had been hardened by the sun. He approached me & asked if he had heard right if in fact I had just lost my 3 child. I nodded yes. He said to me : Many years ago when I was a young man, I awoke to thick smoke billowing all around me. It was so thick I couldn't breath and could barely find my way outside. As I lay on my lawn gasping for air I heard "Daddy Daddy" being cried out. In my confusion I realized my child was still inside. By this time flames were 15 feet high and all the windows had been blown out. I scrambled to my feet and took off to save my boy but a force knocked me down. I fought it then another force jolted me and another, It was neighbors piling on top of me preventing me from returning to the inferno. I screamed and fought I had to save my boy but they would not get off of me. It took 8 or more men to hold me back. By the time the fire crew arrived there was nothing left of my home and my 2 yr old son had perished. I lost myself that day, I walked away from any and everything I ever knew. I spent the next 35 years on the streets drunk and miserable. I just wanted to die and be with my son, I was freezing one night and on my knees I cried out to God to just take me already and end my suffering. A great sense of calmness came over me which I had not felt in those 35 years, and Jesus spoke to me loud and clear like a speaker in my head and said my son did not parish to punish me and God does not do bad things to people however he does allow bad things to happen and if I were a great force wanting to destroy my enemy (people with good hearts that do their best to be good to others) would I not go after those I felt threatened by the most? What good would it be if I simply went after those that already had darkened their hearts as they would no longer be a threat. Then Jesus reminded me that this life is only temporary, a drop in the bucket compared to what awaits and my son will be there waiting for me. It was not my time to join him yet as I had work to do still. And I felt the intense all consuming our creator has for his children. Then with a jolt sort of woke up. I never touched a drop of liquor since. I walk in color now and go where God takes me. The man let me hug him and I bawling by now got in my car and wept for a long time. His story touched my heart and soul and helped me crawl out of the abyss I was lost in. I asked later to the manager and clerk that were there the day he told me his story and nobody could recall ever seeing him, which would be practically impossible considering he was well over 6' 6" with white long hair and well worn jeans and my sobbing had not exactly been quiet. Never saw him again either but I'll never forget him or his message.

One problem I still have after thinking about this is, sure, I can accept that God has the right to take life whenever he pleases since he granted it, but why would he directly command a group of people or a single individual to do so in an imperfect world, rather than just stopping their hearts or using a natural disaster? Taking someone's life can cause permanent changes to a person's psychology, and many describe as a line you cross that you can never go back from, even when they believe that they their decision to kill was justified or in self-defense.

I think that submission to God is the significance of the question. Doing what the Lord commands not only shows obedience to the Creator, but it also shows genuine faith in him. Not to say he commanded murder just to see these things, but because the world at that time was extremely evil. Today, a murder or rapist gets the death penalty for their crimes. The only difference from today and back then, is that God commanded directly. 10/10 die & “ the wages of sin is death.” Those times were different before Jesus came into the world, and just like today, God won’t command anyone to do what was done in the OT, because Jesus changed the covenant between man and God. A thorough understanding of the entire Bible, and New Testament especially, will clarify itself. Look at Abraham, where his hand was stayed from thrusting the knife into his sons chest. His obedience to God meant everything to him. “Not my will, but yours be done.” He was so obedient to the Lord, even if that meant sacrificing his own son at that time. However, what did God do? He didn’t allow him to do it, but he surely saw his obedience & faith. Right before Abraham executed the sacrifice of his own son, God provided a ram for him instead. Later on, God provided his own lamb, his own Son, and thrust that knife of wrath for sin into Him (Jesus), for you, for me, and for all of humanity, so that we could be reconciled to him. Today, God won’t command anyone to murder a whole people or city, because Jesus already paid the penalty for us. There is no difference between a natural disaster or using people to do this. They are the instruments in which God uses. Sin deserves death and death is the wage in which is due to us. When you look at the brutal murder of Jesus, you see how truly blessed we are.

@mslisasierra3 жыл бұрын
@@empathicqubit Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, in eternity with Him. He isn’t suffering one bit if you choose to not believe in him. The only one that suffers without Him is the unbeliever. Jesus didn’t suffer for only Christians, he suffered for all. Everyone is a sinner, even Christians. A Christian isn’t a Christian until they understand the cross, it’s meaning, have repented of sin (perpetually turn away from it from the knowledge of our uncleanliness and for Jesus’ death), and place their faith in Him for the mercy we have been given through His death. Without His death, we would ALL be condemned because we have lived in disobedience and in sin. The wrath that should fall upon us, fell upon Him as if HE were guilty. The misconception about Christians is that people think we think we are perfect and sin-less. That is ignorance of the truth. A Christian who is genuine in their faith doesn’t lie, steal, cheat, fornicate, commit adultery, dishonor their parents, covet/envy, hate, blaspheme, etc. (doesn’t break the 10 commandments) not because we are perfect but because we are genuine in our faith and not hypocrites. That is how you can tell a false convert over a true convert. Honoring God’s Law doesn’t earn us salvation or everlasting life, it only shows genuine faith in God. A Christian KNOWS they are not good, and NEED God’s mercy for forgiveness. When the Bible tells us to repent, it is because the Law has been shown to us like a mirror, and shown us that we are wicked. When we acknowledge our sins and have deep sorrow towards God for sinning and seeing what Jesus has done for us, it is then that the Holy Spirit gives us a new heart with new desires that please God, a heart that seeks to do what is right and hate that which is evil. Our old self is “dead” and “we are a new creation in Christ.” We have put our old sinful and darkened selves to death and have become new. That is a miracle for a sin-loving sinner, to be transformed into a new person. That is the “new birth.” Since it is impossible to never sin again, the difference between a Christian and a nonbeliever is that a Christian may “fall” into sin, the devil can deceive us and try to make us sin. But the nonbeliever, chooses to “dive” into sin, or live in it by choice. Jesus died even for his enemies and those who mock Him, those who don’t believe in Him, who don’t trust in Him, who hate Him, who laugh at Him, etc. He didn’t die so we can love Him, He died so we can be reconciled to God, be clean, sanctified, and justified even though we are sinners. He died so we can have a relationship with God, because without his atonement for our sins, God’s wrath is all we deserve. A just and righteous God must punish that which is evil, or else He wouldn’t be good. It’s like a judge who would let a guilty criminal go without any justice or punishment for his crimes. That judge would be corrupt, and God isn’t corrupt. That is why the Cross is precious. An unbeliever doesn’t understand the Cross because they don’t understand who God is, or see their sin as “exceedingly sinful.” Humans tend to have low standards of goodness in their own eyes. All claim to be good, until we use God’s standard of good. His standard of good is moral perfection; in thought, word, and deed. Since none have been good, except Jesus, then that’s when we can see ourselves in truth- unclean and in desperate need of cleansing. Only Jesus can provide that for us. Since we will all die one day, (the wages of sin/what is due to us), are we to throw our fists at God and reject Him, or submit to Him. He did create us and all of creation. Just because someone doesn’t believe in His existence doesn’t mean He doesn’t exist. If I said I didn’t believe in gravity and jumped off a building, I would die. Ignorance of the law or the truth is no excuse, it still exists. So since we will all die, why wouldn’t we want to accept His free gift of everlasting life? We don’t have to earn it, work for it, do good works for it, it’s His mercy on us through Jesus. Of course, if we reject Him, then we will get what is due to us, death physically, spiritually AND after we die. We will spend eternity under His wrath “where the fire is never quenched and the worm never dies.” That is the punishment that is justly and righteously due. We are alive right now by His permission and will. He gives life and takes it. Who am I to question Almighty?

The enemy knowing this tried to thwart the Plan of Salvation by making everything possible to avoid Jesus from ever being born in the flesh. Remember Herod trying to destroy the children younger than age two? Well, in the Old Testament, God had to order those heathen people to be destroyed because they had abhorrent practices that had corrupted the DNA so much that they were not salvageable any more, and the devil was using them to destroy the bloodline (Children of Israel) from which the Savior had to come. He tried this by tempting them to intermarrying with those pagans which would have prevented Jesus from having a perfect body to accomplish the almost impossible mission of saving mankind. Then you and me and everybody else in this world would have had no chance of being saved.

@notbloodylikely48173 жыл бұрын
Same. Not Christian, but a child of God. What this person doesn't address is the hypocrisy and that's what challenges unbelievers. God commands, thou shalt not murder but murders freely. A perfect God would not court hypocrisy. There really is no way out of that moral paradox that doesn't paint God as imperfect. If sinners can be morally more righteous than God, God is not God. The issue, not addressed here, is that God 'hardens Pharaoh's heart' in Exodus. Pharaoh's free will is taken away by God so that God can visit plagues on Egypt. He is quite clear on this to Moses. I will harden Pharaoh's heart so that he does not release your people'. Had Pharaoh free will would he have released the Hebrews? Maybe not, but by taking away Pharaoh's free will God contradicts his own edict, that we all have free will, and as a direct result of forcing pharaoh to refuse to see reason, he slaughters children. Now, if we are all sinners deserving of Hell, why are the Hebrews favoured. They refute Moses and God even in the face of undisputable miracles. Is that not a reason to smite them? Are the family of Israel not sinners? They worshipped false idols and indulged in apathy and sin, preferring bondage to freedom with hardships. The correct answer, purely in my opinion, is that this aspect of Exodus is not historical but a parable about the testing of faith through hardship and philosophical reasoning. It cannot be otherwise because the alternative reduces God to a hypocrite and that cannot be true of the perfect being, aka God. Exodus is, for me, about the flight of humanity from the difficulty of the good path. Moses is tested, the Hebrews are tested and Egypt suffers to the end that a new nation of stronger faith emerges from the ashes of crisis. Taken literally, nobody in their right mind can defend the supposed actions of God in the OT. This is why fundamentalists miss the point every time and become hypocritical themselves. I mean, this guy is making a case for genocide. It's abhorent honestly.

The answer is simple. Scripture defines and explains itself. The men of those tribes raped the women, the children and the animals. The women qould sacrifice their children (usually the first born) by burning them alive. We k own now a child abused grows up and thinks this is normal and will in turn abuse others. Other children know it's not normal and still go on to abuse others. The animals were defiled. So they were also killed. The gold was left behind. No spoils were taken. These were not acts of war. These were acts of purification of evil out of the land. These people who were killed did many other horrible things that are described in scripture. I notice the question didn't include why were they ordered to also kill the animals. It also doesn't mention that King Saul was cursed by God because he kept sheep. It's because the sheep had been defiled and were unclean because they had been raped by men. When the men of the other tribes didn't want children this is what they would do. This is not something just that was just back then. This still happens in places today. Sickeningly I came across a video of just such a thing. They defile the animals before they sell them to Christians in Africa. This is why God says don't eat animals sacrificed to other gods. They are defiled and unclean. The problem is there is only one Holy Bible. The others are not bibles at all. To publish a book for profit of a book that already exist one must change the book. They can't change the Bible so they make fakes. Some of these fake bibles are 60,000 words shorter. Some even more. Some of the fakes say horrible things. They are not the Holy Bible. This is why it's important for people to know there is only one Holy Bible and it's never been changed. People complain that it's hard to read because it's written in Gothic. The language made just for translating Hebrew into English. The Holy Bible has never been changed. It's never been edited. It's been preserved. If only people talk the time to learn to read the real Holy Bible. If your Bible isn't 30 pounds then it's not a real Bible. This is why so many people can't answer simple questions about scripture. Because they don't own a real Holy Bible. I hope this answers your question.

This is a classic logical fallacy that dates back to Aristotle called "petitio principii," known in English as "begging the question" (a phrase most people use incorrectly). It's where the premise of an argument presupposes the truth of the conclusion rather than supporting it---in this case, that it's morally just for God to command the slaughter of women and children because everything God does is morally just. It's like a book that says giraffes can fly, and when someone challenges it, you point out that the title of the book is "Everything In This Book Is True." It's logically incoherent.
@bradvincent25863 жыл бұрын
I am a Christian who loves Jesus and you are absolutely correct in your evaluation of this explanation. My current answer to the difficult passages in the OT is that I don’t know. I do need an answer and I am seeking God for it. But if people like this want to give an answer to their audience, they shouldn’t make such l logical fallacies. Or, maybe it wasn’t technically begging the question, more just avoiding the question.
@booyaka8702 жыл бұрын

I think you're incorrect and you're misinterpreting what begging the question is. Here, the argument is that for God is not wrong to take a life away because he's the one who gives it in the first place; therefore, he's sovereign to give it and take it back. That principle makes God's actions good, and ours bad, since we are not God to decide when to take somebody's life since we didn't give it in the first place.

Putting the Bible aside or knowledge of Christianity or any religion aside. Honestly if there is a God which is what scientists or great philosophers believe then why shouldn't he have the ability to do what ever he want?. Why should he have to meet our human standards or morals if he created everything and allow us to have these feels. Maybe it's possible that we actually don't know what's really moral or right but at the same time in life you can't always go by how you feel but what is real. I believe God is real and I think he has every right to do what ever he please because truthfully he doesn't owe me anything. As humans can we really truthfully say that we have treated what has been given to us which is earth with care and love? We have pollution in the air, many cut down trees ,.and more. We don't even show love to man kind like we should especially with all the wars going then with all the evil in the world we all probably wonder where is God. I think as humans it's not that we don't believe in God it's that we really want God fit our own desire and standards. We want him to meet our expectations and be qualified for the position to serve us like he is some unemployed person and we are the HR manager.

Remember when Satan appeared to Jesus to tempt Him, he said "All this authority I will give to you because it has been delivered to me(Satan), only if you bow down and worship me". Since, Adam and Eve sinned, God lost the jurisdiction over this planet Earth. That's why Jesus said in His prayer (the Lord's Prayer) "Your kingdom come. Your will be done ON EARTH as it in IN HEAVEN". Jesus asked for God's will to be done on Earth as it is done in Heaven. This simply means that God's will is not done on Earth. Jesus said "Who has seen me as seen the Father". This means that God is not a accuser, murderer, slow to anger, kind, humble, sober, meek, deliverer, does not give eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth. Whereas, the LORD in the Old Testament did those things which is completely contrary to the nature of God, our Father. Now, this is why Paul says in the Bible that there is a veil on those who read the Old Testament because our Father also speaks to people in the name of LORD and Satan does also. That's why it is written to "RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD". Many times in the New Testament, Jesus Christ rejected the words of Yahweh (the LORD) and gave a new law like the eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth or take oaths in the name of the LORD. Jesus also said "Every Good thing is from God" and "No one is Good exceot God" which makes clear that many times Satan used the name of the LORD to kill, steal and destroy and did those things which are Evil. Jesus said "I and the Father are ONE" also Jesus said "Every Kingdom divided against itself will never stand". This means that Jesus's Kingdom and Father's Kingdom was not divided but was ONE. So, when Jesus rejected the LORD'S words in the Old Testament, Jesus was not going against His Kingdom but Jesus was going against the Kingdom of Satan/Darkness. This is every evident that the theory of "Life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, foot for foot, hand for hand" is a Satanic theory said by Satan in the name of the LORD to defame our Father, God. God did not kill them. Joshua's soldiers, commanded by God killed them, to "put them to the edge of the sword." So imagine being one of the soldiers rushing into a house, hacking and slashing the men, women, and children with your sword - with blood spurting ang guts spilling out. Then in another room is a baby in its crib. Do you stab it? Slash it open? Cut it in half? Now you repeat this as you go from house to house, covered with gore and with the screams of the dying ringing in your ears. Being killed by a sword is quite painful - people don't just fall dead as in the movies. Don't you think that these soldiers would suffer severe trauma from being forced to slaughter defenseless women, children, toddlers and babies? What Joshua should have said to God when he was ordered to send his men in is: "Lord, you are God - if you want these thousands of people dead, do it yourself! With a wave of your hand you could make them all drop dead."

But note the overarching theme of the Book of Job. It was SATAN who assailed Job. God had retracted his "hedge" of protection so that Job could be tried. Job was ignorant of Satan's existence, I think, and still he did not charge folly to God. "The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy."

kalifson bigboy Who said they were non-persons? You have two instances here: either they feared God and went to Heaven (and therefore would not mourn their own deaths since to die is gain), or they were wicked (in which case, their wine-drinking in this temporary life was all they had to look forward to, since everybody dies and must be Judged). We don't know which one of these they were, but little hints point towards the latter (Job constantly making sacrifices for them). If they were wicked, whether they lived 30 or 100 years wouldn't ultimately matter, for the things of the Bible can only be spiritually discerned (eternity is at stake; this world is passing away and will be destroyed). Also, if they were wicked, they were only protected *because* of Job (or for the sake of Job). Otherwise, they would have likely reaped what they have been sowing (death and destruction) before then. Which only goes to show the grace of God even moreso. Also, this was very much a one-time event. And though people will mourn over physical death and blame God for everything, they don't see that he's the one who gave them life, nor do they turn from their wicked ways, nor do they understand that life here on earth is smoke--a dying flower. Eternity is at stake, not this physical, temporal realm that is Fallen and reserved for fire. But if you think their Satan-caused deaths are unjust (and we are all deserving of death by God's standard and Law), then that should point you to the ultimate Unjust Death: Jesus Christ, the Son of God on the Cross. He died the death required of everyone in the Law, so that those who believe on him would have eternal life. Jesus did not deserve the death, but he submitted to God's will and died in our place as us; we do not deserve the blessings, but by Christ's obedience, death, and resurrection, we are made Sons, destined for heaven; and as the Apostle Paul said, for the believer to die is gain. Eternity VS Temporality.

It truly, truly amazes me that anyone could find this interpretation of violence in the Old Testament honest and just. God proved on countless occasions that he was jealous, petty, megalomaniacal, and eager to destroy those that he claimed to love as well as those that he hated. The argument that he need not justify what he does because he is the "supreme authority" is absolutely false, because a sufficiently powerful dictator could make the EXACT same case, and have JUST AS MUCH evidence to support the statement. There is as much evidence for the existence of God, as there is evidence that Hitler was a god. Absolutely none. The deeds of the Old Testament, carried out by illiterate and barbaric desert tribesmen, satisfied the basic human urge to cause pain, suffering and eventually death; that they were led by a hallucination makes it no better.

It's not just the question of a God that murders at will. The greatest dilemma facing someone who believes in an Omnipotent God is the question, "When someone is subjected to appalling suffering, why doesn't an Omnipotent God use his power to intervene, why is he content to merely observe? Any father in that circumstance would act immediately to stop the suffering of his child. Yet God merely watches. Either an omnipotent God is amoral and coldhearted, or he is a psychopathic voyeur. The people who first posited the idea of an omnipotent God didn't think it through, didn't perceive the implications. The only answer to this dilemma is to let go of the idea of an omnipotent God. You can believe in some sort of God, just not an omnipotent God. It brings to mind the angels in Wim Wender's movie, "Wings of Desire". The angels are deeply moral beings, deeply compassionate beings, who themselves suffer anguish when they observe suffering...and suffer anguish because they are not able to intervene. They are morally superior to the God worshipped by the Christians who, in these comments, assert that their God has the right to kill, has the right not to intervene to stop suffering. There is a blind, cold-hearted moral vacuity in their assertion. Me, I'm with Wim Wender's angels.

There are many innocent people who would now be dead if they had been in a country which had the death penalty. Any system which has that as a possibility must be wrong.

Well Gods commandments apply to humans, not to Him, and if he commands a human to kill, it's different than if a human kills by his own choice, because ultimately, as far as I understand, the problem with humans killing humans is that we don't have the right to decide who lives and who dies, only God does So when God commands someone to kill, it was Gods decision who dies, so it's justified, cause everyone will die eventually right? and God has to make a choice when that will happen either way, so if he chooses it to be today instead of in 50 years, it's His right to do so Hope I could help, I am often hurting and confused about God too but I pray and eventually get answers

I think that those who have a harsh reaction to this video ultimately have a problem with not being in charge or giving up any illusion of power and control over themselves... To be worthy of God and a perfect life means to let go of yourself and give up your free will in a sense... to give back the choice that he gave you in the first place. The LORD is not our God. It is Satan. Satan has the authority over the Earth because Adam and Eve sinned and became slave to sin and gave Satan right to rule over the world. The LORD in the Old Testament brought prople to bondage but Jesus said "I have come to set the captives free". Remove this veil. I have scriptures to prove each and every point I am saying. I am not quoting it because the message will get very long. But, if you want the scriptures, ask me in the reply of this comment and I will give you.

He says not to murder, then 2 pages later he wants everyone’s firstborn. Is there a difference between murder and sacrifice? Imagine a woman spending 6 days with a beautiful newborn baby and then on the 7th, the baby is headless or being burned alive.
The OT stories seem to be written in the same style of the culture of the time (ancient middle east warrior culture). But isn't God above all mans ways and above all mans culture influence? The conclusion I have gathered is that the people writing the OT and involved didn't understand the full revelation from God, because remember, Gods character wasn't fully revealed until Jesus. And wat did Jesus do? Healed and fed everyone. Forgave anyone who had faith in him. DIdnt kill anyone, yet actually raised Lazarus from the dead. I don't think the writers of the OT were in perfect revelation and communication with God, and they for sure didn't fully understand Gods true character because Jesus had not appeared yet and revealed Gods nature. Just like 99% of christians today, they think theyre hearing from God. I dont believe God actually commanded the killing of babies. Its just not Gods nature anywhere

The LORD in the Old Testament brought prople to bondage but Jesus said "I have come to set the captives free". Remove this veil. I have scriptures to prove each and every point I am saying. I am not quoting it because the message will get very long. But, if you want the scriptures, ask me in the reply of this comment and I will give you.

It’s the only answer. God owns our lives He has every Right to Take what’s His. As Pastor John States it is merely by His Grace that we are living each day, the only reason why man is incapable of accepting this truth is because of his entitlement to life, life that’s not his to begin with but the ONE who created him. If you call yourself a christian evaluate who you worship, if you worship a god who aint sovereign then that must mean he isnt all powerful and all knowing enough to understand his creation neither their limits and their full potential. If that is your god, that aint the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
@robinsydney1405 ай бұрын
@@edlaoyeah Actually, there is a better answer than that. First, we have to take a look into who those people were that God ordered to be destroyed. God put into action the plan of salvation immediately after Adam and Eve fell. After the flood and the peoples dispersed, and according to this plan, God called Abraham and made a covenant with him. God chose Abraham because all those around him were idolaters and he worshipped the true God. He made a covenant with Abraham telling him that He would make him a great nation and that all the families on earth would be blessed in him (Abraham). From him, were the children of Israel born. As part of this plan of salvation, a Savior would be born as a descendant of Abraham; and this Savior who would die instead of the sinner; this was to be Jesus Christ. The reason all families on earth would be blessed in Abraham is that Jesus would come from Abraham’s bloodline. Knowing this, the enemy, tried to thwart the plan of salvation by preventing Jesus from ever existing in the flesh. The reason why God gave the children of Israel the health laws, for example, was so that the Savior to be born would have the best of genetics to withstand the tremendous mission He had to accomplish. The pagans had abhorrent practices through which their DNA had become so corrupted that there was no chance for them to ever turn to God; they were already lost. Should the children of Israel get their genetics mixed with the degraded heathen people by intermarrying them, the Savior would have never been born and me and you, and the whole world would have been lost forever. Remember how Herod send for Baby Jesus to be destroyed? So, to answer the question, God had to order the destruction of those heathen people because they were already lost, and they posed a trap for the children of Israel to disappear as a people and, consequently, the Savior would not be able to die for us.

As a Christian, I know that death is not my final destination, but an eternal life with Jesus is. So from your perspective (*which is based on your choice to reject Jesus Christ*) death is the end for you and the One you think is responsible (even though the Spirit of God will be taken from you *from your own choice to reject Jesus and not as a result of God's choice* to kill your flesh) for bringing that to you is to be hated, but from the Christian perspective it is not. *"What kind of father would create sentient, conscious beings,..."* The kind of Father who wants us to *choose Him* using our own will which he equipped us with through our sentience. For those who choose Him, it is not the end and death could never be defined as "extreme harm." 1 For we know that *if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved*, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, *eternal in the heavens*. 2 For in this *we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven*: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 4 *For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon*, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 2 Cor 5:1-4 (KJV) Your argument is valid, but only to you (the rejector of God), because you alone will suffer "extreme harm" from your death, when you die, but those who accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour will not. *When God kills me, God is doing me a favor, but when He kills you, He is bringing judgement upon your head for your choices*.

Well, in the Old Testament, God had to order those heathen people to be destroyed because they had abhorrent practices that had corrupted the DNA so much that they were not salvageable any more, and the devil was using them to destroy the bloodline (Children of Israel) from which the Savior had to come. This idea seems to suggest to me that morality is purely arbitrary - that whatever God does is right simply by nature of him being God rather than because the action is truly good. John only calls the ethical practicalities of this scenario into question when humans are involved - does that mean that God is immune to any moral complication? According to this logic, God could perform an atrocious act, but it would still be morally acceptable simply because he is God.
@jonahwoodward36232 жыл бұрын
@4Infinite Well then his morality is by very definition arbitrary. I do not claim to be the arbiter of right and wrong. But I do reserve the right to suggest that maybe sending someone to hell for 10,000 years upon 10,000 years for eternity is maybe not an indication of benevolence or a weighted moral system.
@phieble2 жыл бұрын
@@jonahwoodward3623 Logically, being that God is everlasting, supreme and perfect, he MUST be good because no one exceeds him to define good for him and hold him accountable, and since he created all things for his purposes, he defines what is good and evil for them. Scripturally, God is love and needs nothing, so he created the world in order to share his love and happiness with all his creatures in general and his elect maximally and salvifically, and good for us is defined as loving God and being satisfied in him and loving our neighbors rightly, and when we fail to do that we operate against what God created us for which is evil and worthy of eternal punishment because our sins are against an everlasting, infinitely glorious God. For God to punish us temporally and eternally is perfectly just, and whenever he doesn't send someone to Hell it is due to his mercy and his grace that is purchased for us by Jesus' death and resurrection and applied to us by grace through faith. God's righteousness is consistent and his choice in whom he shows mercy and grace to and who he withholds it from is not arbitrary because it's not subject to change and it's not based on nothing-only those in Christ are saved. We are not told in the Bible what factored in to God choosing who was elect and who wasn't, but we are told why not everyone is elect and we are told that God has the right to show mercy to whom he will and withhold it from who he will as the Creator and Judge of all people. So, although he doesn't love all people to the same degree or in the same way, he is still loving inherently and he is not obligated to anyone in loving them sufficiently or wrong toward anyone by loving insufficiently as it pertains to salvation because he doesn't owe anyone anything. Therefore, in all of his ways God is incapable of being evil because his preeminence and will defines it, his nature and character cannot change or deteriorate, and even if that were possible, it would be of no advantage to God to do evil because he has everything he needs in himself to live forever in perfect love and bliss.
@jonahwoodward36232 жыл бұрын
@@phieble But by this interpretation, not only is God good, but it would be impossible for God to be evil. Even if they had created a universe where the maximum number of beings suffered maximally for eternity, this would still be a perfectly good act, because the actor is God. If you want to argue at all that God is not the kind of being who would do such a thing, this is again holding God to a a moral standard external to himself - but according to your argument, God can do whatever he wishes, because he is morally beholden to no one but himself. So any explanation as to why God is good aside from 'because he is God' is not just redundant, but actually incoherent. Saying God is any more good because he is merciful is not true, because he would always have to be perfectly good if he were merely just, or even actively malicious. I find this view to contradict all of my moral intuitions. Perhaps moral intuition is insufficient as an objection. But ultimately, moral intuitions are all we have when judging what is right and wrong (by definition), even if we believe that intuition comes from God. Alternatively, if you take the view that what is good is promoting the wellbeing of conscious creatures, and judge the standard of right and wrong against that, it seems to me that God cannot be good. He designed a world where the punishment for disobeying him (or, more accurately, simply believing he doesn't exist) would cost an eternity in hell, with the knowledge that the majority of humans would meet this fate. He will allow people to suffer in hell, as he has allowed many people and animals to suffer on Earth, without any hope of improvement or escape. The only justification for that punishment is that we had the chance to seek forgiveness, but did not. The only explanation for that punishment is pure vengeance, with no other purpose but to inflict suffering. If such intent is good, or loving, then again, my moral intuitions fail me.
@phieble2 жыл бұрын
@@jonahwoodward3623 I think I should clarify my argument if I can - morality is defined as whatever the character of God is eternally / unchangeably, and whatever he commands of us according to his will or what is pleasing to him. Therefore, since goodness is based in the character of God and what pleases him, we have to know what that character is and what it is that pleases him and that depends on special revelation which I know to be the Bible. God inspired / authorized the doctrines of what is true and revealed it to several authors in different places throughout thousands of years and preserved it for us to read in a singular book, and there alone is where we discovered what God's character is and what pleases him. That is what good is, and since God is supreme there is no other objective, authoritative, meaningful definition of good. God has revealed that he is self-sufficient, triune, and loving, which is only logical, and so, he created the world with love as his end- sharing his love and happiness with a group of people of his choosing without them being worthy of it or meeting any conditions to be chosen to love, which of course they couldn't since they were not created yet. Since God had that very specific end in mind when creating, and God is perfect, there could not exist any alternative universe and course of history then the one we have and God could not be different, therefore your hypothetical is not possible and I cannot answer you on those terms. There is no "what if God were this way" or "what if God decided to do this or that," rather the way that God is and the decisions he made as to how to run the universe are perfect and unchangeable. There are certain attributes and character traits that God is not capable of and there are certain desires that he could not possibly have, and I call this good not just because I agree with it dispositionally but because it is the way that it ought to be logically. If there is a God then that God is eternal, self-sufficient, sovereign and happy because of those attributes. God is also triune and exists in three Persons as revealed in the Bible, and so there is relationship in God and that relationship brings complete happiness because it is full of love, and so God is happy and loving and could only create with the intent to share happiness and love as his main end because to do otherwise would reflect something that he is not eternally, that is needy, unsatisfied, angry and hateful. Of course, this takes us right up to the question of why it is that God would plan out, cause, and / or allow things that he hates and is not pleased with when he has the full authority and power to eradicate them, but again, for his purposes, it is good that even that exists and has its place in history, and since he is not committing evil in planning it or allowing it, and he will address all evil and deal with it rightly, he retains his goodness.

If you saw the things they saw you'd do just about whatever you were told. Not to mention they were slaves, taken out of their house of bondage. Reason to be grateful. And then they were fed good from heaven. Healed of snake bites. Watched a wall fall from them yelling at it.... Basically this. If you criticise the actions of the Israelites you have to accept that the account of it happening is basically reliable. And that account includes God acting miraculously. You don't want to accept that so you'll reject thst to continue bashing believers but you can't. I mean you can and probably will but it's not honest of you to do. You can't reject part of the source you're using as criticism. It's either one basically reliable source or it's one basically rejected source. Or one source with accurate points, but other stuff added on. But thing is, the supernatural stuff is where the focus is. The normal stuff happens because of the supernatural stuff. Moses doesn't build dams or boats. In fact building those in the time he had would be almost as miraculous as what God did. So because the normal stuff is the effect of the supernatural and a direct result of it, you can throw out both or neither but you can't just throw out the supernatural stuff. So if you want to continue in your indictment of believers, you have to affirm God's existence and supernatural interaction with his creation.

If people could simply understand the main purpose of our existence was to worship the creator. This is why it's important to study and meditate on his word. We humans were the last creation however we posses something no other creation has and that's free will and was given dominion over those previous creations.. this is where Lucifer comes in at. Being an Archangel created before man, he and the other angel's were given the tasks of watching over mankind but the pride in Lucifer's heart wouldn't allow him to accept the fact, as gorgeous and gifted he was, his main obligation was to serve man. Thus causing his fall. Since then, his main goal has been to corrupt the one creation the creator loves most which is mankind. Lucifer succeeded by first getting Eve to sin through disobedience. The fallen angels began to lust after women and took them as wives and begot children. The fallen started to teach mankind the knowledge of the heavens which we know as science and technology. So in essence we were taught things the most high never intended for us to know. Because of this knowledge we became exceedingly wicked. To where the father killed everyone except Noah's family. The only reason Noah's family was spared was because his DNA was still pure meaning, everyone else was mixing bloodlines with the fallen angels offspring the nephilim. Noah's ark was the purpose of starting mankind over again without the influence of what previously happened. The most high made a promise to Noah that he wouldn't destroy mankind and that every time you see a rainbow it should be a sign of that promise but look what America has done with the rainbow complete mockery. So to everyone who doesn't understand why these terrible things still happen is bc the most high made a promise and had he did destroy us , that'd make him a liar but as believers we know better.

I think Piper should've put like this "God KNOWS when our last day on earth will be" and not make it sound like God is a psycho killer. God is omnipotent and omnipresent as owner and creator of life and the physical world. But God's justice is death for sin and that was demonstrated in the OT. You cannot sugar coat it. In order to provide a way to forgive He had to CRUSH His own son. We are rotten to the core and the Cross confirms it. That should be you and me nailed alive hanging there, not Jesus. So DO NOT try to ignore God's true Justice just because you think you're so lovable.

What a pleasant personality this God Christians claim to love has, it seems one of his hobbies is to murder innocent children, we know he set about massacring whole populations of people he didn't like and he sent people to war against each other because he felt they didn't observe his rules, but to murder innocent women and children really gives a good insight into his character, He is an obsessive psychopath with not even the slightest amount of conscience. Read on - Isaiah 13:11-18 I will punish the world for its evil ...Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Deuteronomy 28:53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and daughters, which the Lord thy God hath given thee. Samuel 15:2-3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling. Jeremiah 19:3-9 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place ... And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters. This is just a very small sample of the psychological makeup of this evil God, he even advocates cannibalism. Where is the love, compassion and understanding that is supposed to be the symbol of this SkyGod, it can't be found anywhere in the bible but there is an abundance of hate, anger and cruelty. Nowhere in this fake bible is there one example of Satan ordering atrocities against women, children or anybody. Christians are worshiping the wrong God. Blessed be.

@StudyReport-h6l6 ай бұрын
The LORD is not our God. It is Satan. Satan has the authority over the Earth because Adam and Eve sinned and became slave to sin and gave Satan right to rule over the world. The LORD in the Old Testament brought prople to bondage but Jesus said "I have come to set the captives free". Remove this veil. I have scriptures to prove each and every point I am saying. I am not quoting it because the message will get very long. But, if you want the scriptures, ask me in the reply of this comment and I will give you.

There's something horrendously wrong with this picture. This is a prime example of a heartless (and demonic) abstract theology being used to justify the actions of an imaginary genocidal tyrant. You are 100% right. It makes no sense that a so-called all-powerful god could have the desire to kill children and women. If god was all-powerful he could give to himself happiness, peace, love... So he would just have the desire to share his free happiness with the ones he had created, with the ones who never asked him to live. This man is sick, this man is mentally ill, he is brainwashed, he is dangerous, he is stupid... There are texts which prove the cruelty of the biblic god : - Bible (Ezekiel 9: 6) "The Lord said: (...) Let not your eye spare, and have no mercy. Kill old man, young man, young girl, child, woman, until extermination " kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpjImZ5jZtl5q6c&ab_channel=McGeoghegan2007 - Bible (Hosea 13:16) "Samaria will be punished, because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; Their little children will be crushed, And their pregnant wives will be split open." kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoOsipSZp851frs&ab_channel=Pandadeist - Bible (Deuteronomy 28:63) "The Lord will take pleasure in destroying and killing you." In the chapters of Deuteronomy, God indicates to the Israelites the general behavior to be adopted with regard to the cities which do not accept their preeminence : to put all the males at the edge of the sword, but to take for oneself the women, the children, cattle. Of course, a man with a new and lovely captive runs into a problem : since he has just murdered his parents and brothers, she may not be in the best of places. loving dispositions towards her. What does it matter! God anticipated this slight inconvenience and proposes the following solution : her owner must shave her head, cut her nails and lock her in his house for a month, while she cries all the tears in her body. Then he can walk into the room and rape her.

I’m assuming you’re an unbeliever and have never cracked open the Bible. Piper is right, he’s God, he doesn’t owe you squat. Who are you to take God off His thrown and place yourself on it? You wouldn’t be here right now if it wasn’t for Him… The only reason you have breath in your lungs is because He’s allowed you to breath and you wanna sit there and point your finger at Him and tell Him what He can and cannot do? People have been dying in this world since it’s been created - this includes women and children. They died because God ceased them to exist or else they’d still be alive. God has appointed every person, the place and the boundaries to where they live, the specific time from conception till death, and nothing can change that Job 14:5. And you act as if dying, you no longer exist as if you’re annihilated - you just change locations. Heaven or hell. Be thankful you’re still alive, enjoying your life the He granted you to have.
