I purchased this a few weeks ago. i am a retired machinist but no cnc experience as I am accustomed only to manual old style manual machines. I see this as a learning experience

I bought this unit over a year ago. The backlash and chatter really makes it frustrating when cutting aluminum. Although that's what this machine was "marketed" for. I've tried MANY different speeds, feeds, depth of cuts, and flutes. It's def not what I was hoping for. In my opinion, those cheap lead screws and nuts killed the concept. I hope to one day buy a real CNC machine, but they aren't $500 haha. Thanks for the video.

changing to ball screws is really the only option to remove backlash. i have no idea what sizes you would need but doing all 3 axes would be real nice.

Great job. As someone else asked, which springs. There is a link to a page with tons of springs.

The link SHOULD bring you to a page with 2 spring options and the only difference is spring steel or 316 stainless. But LeeSpring's website has a bit of a learning curve to use unfortunately. The spring i specifically used is the LC038G07S in case you want to start searching from their homepage. Hope that helps!

Any other upgrades planned? This little guy has potential.

Already done a few more in the next video!

try inserting your cutters as far as you, maybe cutting in half. chatter will mostly come from the cutting tool not being near the collet and/or crappy spindle bearings.

How do you place a part on the bed and set software to locate that exact spot ?
@ReadySetProjects2 жыл бұрын
There's many techniques and ways to go about it, but it's essentially manually getting the CNC's origin to match the origin of the part you designed. The software they give with the 3020 has a button to set current spindle position as origin for X and Y and a separate button for setting the Z origin. So if my part has a prominent corner. I could set the top of that corner as my part origin in my design. then manually move the spindle to that corner IRL and set XY origin. then I would use a piece of paper with the bit in the spindle and bring it down till it catches the paper on the top face of the part IRL and set that as my Z. Now the CNC origin XYZ should match my designed part origin XYZ. There's also edge finder tools and other fancy ways of doing this but hopefully this at least gets you the idea of what is happening haha

to soften a spring, you do not cut it, you sand the out sides , gunsmiths do this to triggers to lighten the pull
