Best animated dad. I like how he, unlike most cliche dads who neglect their children who just want their approval, he doesn’t do that in a mean way. He’s stuck in the 60s not knowing a clue what’s going on. That’s the only reason he doesn’t ‘approve’ of Flint. You can tell he loves his son, but he has zero of the same interests as him and wasn’t ready to take on the role of parenting after Flint’s mom passed away. It’s a really refreshing cute take on the son wanting dad’s approval trope

Yeah same, I also like how when he told his son to give up the science stuff and come work at his shop it’s less because “stop being different/uniqueness bad” but instead it was a reasonable explanation of “he keeps throwing his net where there are no fish” which is a fair reason for thinking his son should change jobs. He clearly does love his son it’s just that he is also clearly not a vocal person and isn’t good with words which causes some of the problems

This has been my experience this past week trying to explain to my grandma, after writing down exact instructions, both in English and her native Japanese, and going there 3 times, just to show her how to make a simple video call (or even receive a video call when it pops up), through Line on her new tablet. My Mom is on the phone with her for the last 2 hours again trying to explain it once again and figure out where she is. I understand she's never used a computer, but at some point, I've got to help her understand she can't be told how to do everything for any possible case, and to do what she wants to do, she literally just needs to follow the instructions exactly. I got her a stylus and everything so she doesn't start tapping everywhere too. The struggle is real.
