We’re so used to seeing these cells in a static state. But, if we look at videos of cell cultures we can see how active the situation really is. Those fibroblasts aren’t impeding the migration/metastasis of the overtly melanocytic cell. They are facilitating the movement. It’s not a “normal scar”; it’s a dynamic regression. I saw a video of a keratin pearl once. This thing was whorling around. Later the keratin pearls I saw were all “fixed”. Disappointingly, they were no longer biologically active, as I had seen on that “live” video. It was glorious.

WOW ! Some of those cells are gigantic on a background of bright pink collagen.

Thanks, mine was missed on initial biopsy, then 6 mos later the ent doc removed an unusual lump and the path showed a desmomel. My pet scan last week was neg (i read it) and my surgeon has already scheduled a more comprehensive removal. I am 79 and moderate Sun.

I’m so sorry to hear of your situation. These can sometimes be incredibly difficult to diagnose on a partial biopsy. Best wishes for health and healing.
