The fact that the chords change so slowly like this makes it feel like it's an organ playing to a church chant. The plagal cadence at the end seals the deal - I literally heard the "amen" in my head during chords 25 and 26 (1:12 onward).

As a music software developer, you're kinda right but you're also kinda wrong, it's hard to explain. For example, I could probably make a DAW, but I still have yet to learn math and Desmos is kind of a mystery to me lol. I guess I know the math but just in the language of computers rather than the language of classic math stuff?

@@LWmusik As an audio software developer, while calculus, linear algebra and other stuff is important, they should not stop you from learning in any way. Basic concepts of overlap-add buffers, format-specific things like controllers, events and so on, GUI, they don't require math. As for actual synthesis, you need minimal math by the way. You can either just combine partials for additive synthesis, or for subtractive synthesis, just begin with a procedural waveform (may be created using just logic or math, really) and go subtractive on it using filters or anything else. It's just important to never let anyone stop you, and if you don't know math in its classic sense, it's not an issue either! Keep creating. ^^
@KernelHaxxor2 күн бұрын
It would be more correct to say that every procedural synthesizer plugin is just a calculator on steroids, the DAWs usually have other responsibilities =]

I've simulated waves in Desmos before, basics like sine, triangles, squares and saws but also played with things like phase modulation. …but I don't have any idea how to actually get a sound out of it.

So let me explain what this guy is doing. What is considered a sine graph/sine wave in maths is considered as a fundamental tone or frequency. This means a singular pitch such as the A4 (440hz) or C3 (middle C) notes on a piano or keyboard with no harmonics and thus the frequency or tone may sound flat/dull at times. When you play multiple musical notes together over various intervals you get a chord. A chord in audio physics represents a complex tone, that is - one which is made out of multiple harmonics and frequencies + the fundamental frequency or in the context of a musical chord, the root. If we apply music theory to this, they have applied various skills such as when and when not to use the tonic, modulation and perhaps various voicings and inversions for better harmonic flow. So shout out to them for being able to do this while it took me 2 hours to plot y= x^2 on demos 👏😅😂🎛
