Great video, i made a list of the tools you spoke of that i don’t have and ordered them. I’ll be doing my first belt/timing/shims with a pro in San Francisco at a motorcycle guild. I’m writing you today because I ruined the seat of my swing arm while trying to remove the bearings. I had it heated well, but they wouldn’t move. I also shattered a 5lb weight lifting exercise piece that was used as a base for its center hole was about 3 or 4 mm bigger than the bearing. So, i’m willing to mail this swing arm to a general P.o. box or local public mail/shipping pick up point of your choice in hopes to make a video of bearing removal and parts numbers for the swing arms. I already purchased a new swing arm but will still have to get the bearings out of it. Anyways, Thank you for the vids, i’ll be using them as i do certain bits of work for sure. I share your stuff on some Facebook groups and i’m the admin on the 916/96/98 group, i posted your sound off video yesterday. Thanks!!!

Glad it was a help, the only tool I forgot to get out of the tool box was the a primary gear puller, you will need one of these if stripping your engine right down as its a bugger to get off. Thanks for sharing the video on Facebook 👍😎 Don't worry about the Swingarm , I have a few lying around that will require refurbishment at some point. Will add it as a possible video for the future. Thanks for the offer anyway Hope you are keeping well in San Francisco 👍

DesmoWerx do you have a lead on a good source for Ducati special tools?
@DesmoWerx4 жыл бұрын
@@ANDY5 Hi Andy, there are a couple of sellers on Ebay that provide copies of a lot of the factory tools. www.ebay.co.uk/str/HDESAUSA/DUCATI-TOOLS/_i.html?_storecat=2702225011 www.ebay.co.uk/str/gbmotorcycleproducts/Ducati-Tools/_i.html?_storecat=3702869010 They are missing some of the more specialised items but do have most general Ducati tools

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise🪛🔧 😀 Would you mind sharing who you mail order bearings, seals and actual parts from? I’m in the UK, sunny Devon (sunny some of the time🤣)

Hi Robert, I use a few places based on price but two good places are: simplybearings.co.uk/shop/ www.123bearing.co.uk/ they carry most products to meet the needs of a Ducati builder.

Hi, thanks for the videos, they have given me the confidence to open up my 888. The crank plugs working it’s way out, two questions, any suggestions on getting the primary gear off? Using a 10 ton hydraulic puller and a bit of heat but it’s not moving. And what’s the ‘fix’ for the crank plug? Cheers
@DesmoWerx4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, I forgot to add in my primary puller!!!! DOH!!! There is a special tool, like this - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Primary-Gear-Puller-Part-No-88713-2092/120929098275?hash=item1c27ef9a23:g:b4sAAMXQw8hRaSqK The earlier engines including your 888, the primary drive gear is on a taper, its apply heat to the gear, then pressure on the puller and gently tap - BE CAREFUL, it can shoot across the room. I am afraid its a case of perseverance for this gear do not apply too much force or you can damage the crankshaft. The fix for the crank plug is remove rubbish one, clean out crank, replace with new, use high strength lock compound and then punch the edge of the plug and the threat to stop it retreating out. Hope that helps. 😊
@andylaw25424 жыл бұрын
DesmoWerx thanks, the gear did eventually ‘pop’ off, and flew about 3 foot across the garage! Almost s**t myself. Will separate the cases tonight after checking the endfloats.

Hi mate, which brand is the micrometer? Which brand are the metric feeler gauges? Which brand is the magnetic stand and dial gauge? Thanks a lot!

Great vid. I ticked each one off my tools 👍 only things I need are the gear selector holding tool and foff rattle gun 😀. I downloaded gates belt tension tool onto my phone and use that but never calibrated it. Any chance you could do a comparison with the posh acoustic tuner you use? Thanks again, I must get back out and spruce up some cases. 😒

Hi Chris, Which App is that? I am happy to do a side by side comparison if it helps you.

@@chrislee7817 Hey that comparison would be interesting. I just used the app the other day on my 748 and was very easy and helpful to use. compared it with the 5mm play between the pulleys method and it seemed to be spot on. So interested to comapre with the expensive meter.
