In this series I rebuild an early 916cc race engine into replacement 1994 cases.
Video 1 looks at all the components from the donor engine, their condition and the replacement cases. I take an initial view on what work will be required to complete the build.
The Donor engine came from my 2012 title winning Thunderbike Ducati 916
It has some light tuning on the heads, a lightened and balanced crank with H beam rods and does not run a flywheel

@@DesmoWerx I will also be disassembling 1098 in a week, there is a suspicion that the overrunning clutch is broken.

id love to own one. the legendary Foggy golden era. I'm jut put off by reliability. 848 sounds amazing and generally more user friendly. Love your channel exactly what i needed

HI Jason, they are a joy to own, the reliability is as good as any other bike unless you have one of the really early ones where the build quality was not as good. A late 996 or 998 are pretty good :)

I am jealous of you sir, but I learn a lot watching you and every time I am feeling more ready to do the valve clearances by my self. You are as good mechanic as camera-man editor. To set the valve clearances check and the set up I pretend not withdraw the heads...is it right? Thank You from Mallorca.

Hi SM9, you can do the work with the heads on the engine and in the bike, it is just a little more challenging. 👍

Loving the content as always, I’m a big fan of the 916 family of Ducati’s, although, completely off topic, would you happen to know why I’m getting a little oil seepage from the generator connector to the regulator rectifier on a 2007 1098s? 🤷‍♂️

Has the bike been on its side? The cable runs into the generator cover which is wet, so you can get oil seep along the cable over time particularly if its submersed in oil due the bike being on its side.

DesmoWerx the bikes never been on its side, it may have been dropped by the previous owner but I’m not sure. I have however had the engine rebuild due to the main bearings failing, so that may have had something to do with it 🤷‍♂️

This video about the 916 motor came out successfully, now I will do a friend a complete rebuild of the motor from st4. Waiting for new videos. P.S. Does it make sense on the 916 engine to change the oil pump to the nose of a new sample?

Hi Jacob, The pump should not be changed for the later type as the cases contain a pressure relief valve set-up.

Hi Adam.. Really enjoyed watching part1 of the 916 build.. 😁 hopfully not long until the next upload.. I've currently got my engine on the bench.. so any information on where you buy your bearing ect.. and gearbox strip n rebuild would be appreciated.. Many thanks Rob..

Next video is coming soon. I use 123bearings or bearingsRus or simply bearings. If you know the bearing numbers they can match. The prices vary between the 3 companies so gives you good selection. (There are some that Ducati sell cheaper so always check with the dealer :) ) I probably wont be stripping this gearbox unless i see anything of concern.

@@DesmoWerx cheers mate.. I didn't know about 123 bearings.. But I've used 4 different people to get my 8 crankcase bearings for £189.00 saving £90.00.. most arrived only this morning. I also found a company called Bearing mate in Telford and saved £20 on just two G/B bearings..😲😲

Great video, who do you use to replate the bores by the way? I have a few 996 (st4s) engines that I'm going to have to rebuild for my Supermono, might need to get them plated.

Hi Chris, In the past I have used the following companies to replate: poetonaptec.co.uk/ or www.langcourt.com/page26.html Mostly for two strokes but I believe they will do Ducati's

Hi I’m building a ST4s 996 engine, the vertical cylinder exhaust cam woodruff key is offset. Should this be installed in the advanced position or the retarded position? I can’t find any reliable info on it

Hi Kyle, you would need to time the engine if you cannot remember which way it was set a build to be safe.
