Thank you for the time and effort that you’ve put into these videos! My dream was to swap my 1199 engine for a 1299. But, they are hard to come by and I found an 1199R engine for a good deal so I’m studying your videos to help prep myself for this exact swap. I have a question about the swing arm. Do I have to swap over the swing-arm internals from an R to get it to fit? Or could I get by with just my “S” swing-arm? Thank you.

Great work. Question for you. I have a 848evo. i just did a compression test and for the life of me, i cant find what range it should be. I am just shy of 160psi. Could you be so kind and point me into the direction to find this information.

Amazing video, im just wondering, as im about to start rebuildingy bike i just bought, with a timing belt that snapet on the vertical cylinder, im hoping that i can do only with head rebuild? What is your advice and sugestions, its a monster 620s 2003
@kennethsayce86454 күн бұрын
The amount of damage depends on the speed of the engine at the time, if the engine was only at low RPM it may have only bent valves, (don't try and straighten them) but if the engine was at high RPM it would be a major rebuild. I am a toolmaker and Ducati Monster enthusiast, I have done a major rebuild on my M750 and hotted it up with Hi comp pistons, bigger race valves, flat side race carbs, programable ignition it goes very well. So pull the head and see what the damage is, I would be interested to see, by the way I have 3 Ducati Monsters.

quick tip for the front coil and the radiator being in the way. you can also just remove the bolt on the rear bottom and leave the top in and just pivot the radiator back and up towards the engine and that gives enough room without having to remove the top bolt as well

Not sure where the 0.30mm is from. When I watched a Ducati official service video it was mentioned 0.15 to 0.20mm for preload.
@DesmoWerx23 күн бұрын
It was a mistake on my part, I was working to the old 4v setting (I never used to build many 2V engines), when I found the crank bound too much I checked the manual and it specified 0.15 as per the pinned comment above, I made the change and its actually 0.18m preload (Closet shims I had)

It comes across as confusing when you read the manual, once you do it a few times its relatively straight forward. Thanks for watching 😊

Another great, not too long video! Why did you change the oil plugs for the crank?
@DesmoWerx23 күн бұрын
To clean the crank out, the engine has had a previous failure and with the balancing work I had carried out I wanted to ensure the oil ways were fully clear.

Very interesting channel. I've built a 748 for vintage racing here in Canada and ran into a similar issue (lost ignition in one of the cylinders once the bike was hot on track). Did you finally find the reason for your problem?

Mine was the ignition pick up, had to replace it twice as I bought a new one that was defective as well. 😊

On the 1100 head, it almost looks like there's an air passage directly underneath the desmo chamber, interesting. Out of curiosity, would you know the exhaust nut torque setting for Termignoni headers on the 1100 exhaust ports? It's not specified in the DP installation manual, and the OEM headers use a different fastener.
@DesmoWerxАй бұрын
Sorry I dont have that torque setting, I would imagine it to be similar to the OEM fastener which is 24NM

Loosening the three screws on the wheel is altering the cam timing or degreeing. After you loosen them you should degree the cams.
@DesmoWerxАй бұрын
The tools hold the cams in the factory timing position so they do not need re-timing, this is the whole reason behind the use of these tools whilst you set the belt tension.

Even though this video series is already 5 years old, I want to thank you for making it. I'm currently putting a 748R engine with big bore kit together after stripping and painting, and your videos have helped me get through the process massively! Often I couldn't remember where parts went or how to re-install them, and the workshop manuals were often simply not clear enough to follow. You have been instrumental in the successful build of my engine so far. Great work, I love it! I even copied your wooden support block 😂

@DesmoWerxАй бұрын
The primary gear nut is secured @ 190nm, this is the small nut, the main primary gear is locked out whilst being tightened. There are two special tools available that make it easier.
