Breaking MTG Arena With Over 1000 Triggers!

Magic the Gathering Arena is a pretty stable game...until you do purposely convoluted crazy things to it on purpose. So that's exactly what Krepsy and I did. What happens when you put over 1000 triggers on the stack? Some weird things, it would seem.

Hovering over the jayce puppet made it queue a squeak, but you could retrigger it, having the last squeak also looped, this went endless and sounded as devilish as it could sound. A convergence of puppet squeaks

You should do this with not only Cruel Celebrant, but also Heliod, Erebos, Bastion of the Penitent, Judith, Overgrowth Elemental, Vindictive Vampire, Daxos, Epicure of Blood, Bloodthirsty Aerialist, and Ajani Pridemate. Then you should trigger the kill by making everything an angel with Arcane Adaptation, with Bishop of Wings on the battlefield, the dropping Massacre Girl. Each goblin has 20 triggers on death, and then is resummoned as a 1/1 spirit that does the entire thing over again in an infinite loop that triggers for each goblin. Effectively, it's an infinite DDoS attack on their server space.

So a while ago a friend and I were testing with whatever the white card which I can't remember the name of, but x = angels summoned with the my life = mana with x being over 1k We started to speculate that the mtga system checks the resolving card vs the entire stack and board state before resolving and the smaller the stack became it began to resolve quicker. We never did a specific test, but if you want to test it may be interesting We did get the game to essentially freeze until it decided to boot us from the game at a stack around 2k. Edit: just saw the unexpected match complete XD yeah that is what we got. Man I have not touched magic in months.

I remember crashing the game with krenko, anglic exlitsion, primate, ajaini welcome, and divine visit. Because the amount of triggers it crashed when the goblins tried to spawn

I like this stuff. I play life gain decks and once in a while, a mexican stand off situation arises. When I gain life and put on counters and gain life when the opponent puts creatures into play, it triggers so many times it's totally insane. Unfortunately, I lost a couple of games because at some point, arena counts me down and at some point I'm not able to do anything anymore. Heliod is involved and Trallassaurs which counters and scrying and all the +1/+1 creatures. These games take forever and nobody can or wants to really attack because it's pointless.

And when you are able to counter the life gain by making the opponent lose the life he gains, it's crazy when you have like 4 life gainers and with every creature entering, it triggers life gain, put on counters and/or scry, so it takes so long. But my PC never seems to have problems to deal with the tiggers, it just takes an absurd amount of time to get to the next turn.

Just asking out of curiosity, would it resolve faster if all mana was spent as nothing could be done in between each trigger? If "resolve all" was programmed as something like "check if any player can activate something → check if the player wants to → return 'no' → resolve", spending all mana would speed up the resolve process a bit since it could skip the "check if the player wants to" part, I suppose?

Awesome video, but could it go further if you disabled card styles on the celebrant? I imagine having to draw a moving image over and over might increase the strain, but I could be talking out my ass.

Shit I board wiped some with a couple hundred scute swarms with Ugin and it still crashed a couple weeks ago, granted it crashed once the board was gone and I used Fabled Passage

What I find pretty dumb is that they didn't make the token's object have a variable being the number of instances instead of having that much objects (having programmed yourself I am sure you understand what I mean). I guess it would increase a bit the workload and would generally just be for people trying to break the game, but still.

If this did actually crash the servers WotC would probably just permaban you out of spite. Or would they permaban your friend until he ratted you out first? Also, why no indestructible pridemate so each cruel celebrant trigger creates a second trigger while they're going off?

While playing today I triggered an ability that should have given me a little more than 8,000 creature tokens, and given me 2 life for each, *inhales* AND put a +1/+1 on another creature... The game ended in a draw despite me having almost 1000 life :'(

I broke MTG Arena sometime awhile ago too and I don't know how I did it. So here's the problem Des; I think I was playing Arena and my game crashed or something, so I think I went to relaunch it and it doesn't work. Whenever I try to launch Arena now, what happens is that it takes a few seconds to load, and then shows an error window with Arena's logo with a red square/white "!". I've looked up solutions online (and even WotC's terrible customer support page) and still can't find out how to fix it. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work either. Have you ever encountered a problem like this, and if so, how did you fix it? I really want to get back to recording Arena videos soon.

Yeah I've seen stuff like that. You need to delete all relevant data directories manually after uninstalling and sometimes check the registry automatically or manually to remove every last trace of config settings
