Don't know about Shadow Tactics because I never play it, but comparing it to DS:O made me question his judgment. It's more like Jagged Alliance (the DOS ones, not the more modern crap) but still not really. Still nice that Desperados is back as I liked the first two games back in the day. Also played Commandos but found the setting not as interesting.

I don't think Angry Joe knew about Shadow Tactics when he played Desperados III. He probably still doesn't know. Yahtzee Croshaw didn't even know about Shadow Tactics when he played Desperados III. I'm quite shocked to learn when some people claim that nobody's heard of Shadow Tactics, despite it being highly praised critically and doing well commercially. I guess we're just one of the lucky ones who got to play Shadow Tactics before playing Desperados III.

It's good. It has some continuity issues with teh first one (Doc McCoy in the manual for 1 is said to have lost his eye at Gettysburg. 3 is a prequel taking place after the civil war and he has both eyes), and some small annoying stuff (like John having only 8 rounds for 2 6 shot revolvers, and can only fire each of them once for the planend actions before cooldown...) But it's a really fun game... god i waste so much time trying to clear the maps without being spotted/rising an alarm :D

So, the devs took the liberty to change some small stuffs like doc's eye saying that it would be more interactive if they could actually show how he loses his one eye eventually down the line rather than knowing abt it from a manual. The ammo thing is purely for balance. They said that it might not make any sense, yes but it's balance>realism first for them.

Doc should've been already missing his eye.. he also had too much purple on his clothes :P 4 Shots more wouldn't have massively changed the gameplay, More "realistic" quick shooting. byJohn, yeah... but in Desperados 1 he could quickly shoot 3 guys WITH ONE revolver. 2 Guns for that. He could've had 1 like in Desperados 1, just with only 2 shots. Wouldn't have made much difference, but i guess they couldn't think of any other last ability, since John gets the Pocket Watch in Desperados 1, and that would be a bit harder to retcon. I like the game. Doesn't mean i have to think every thing of it is great.

One thing I can think of is this game doesn't offer you the iconic shootout option for a Wild West theme game, like Shadow Tactics didn't give you the option of melee fight your enemies like Robin Hood did. In Commandos 3 every character can equip a rifle and has the option to overwatch their cone view and shoot any enemies that get in the cone. This gives you fun moments of gameplay where you can set up a kill zone before pulling and explosion and straight up murder the reinforcement, and it doesn't compromise the overall stealth tactic of the game. Also I don't agree with Joe channel's rating system of "if it doesn't have multiplayer it's minus a point" This is a full single player experience it doesn't need multiplayer I think for a veteran gamer you should understand this already. Let single player game be single player. Nobody asks for multiplayer in Witcher nobody asks for multiplayer in Desperados.

I loved this game, I did it in multiple sessions so I didn't get bored at all, I mostly did one mission a play. It took me a lot longer than an hour a mission too, I found it brutal but at the same time, as I got better at it, it got harder. Just the right amount of hard for me. It's been quite a while since I said YES! through clenched teeth while brandishing a fist so many times. I thought they made a very polished, fun puzzle game with a lot of character and superb game-play.

Granted that indeed *some* levels feel like they drag themselves out a bit more than they should (though if you take into consideration the layout of the cities and areas themselves the distance feels right), how is the game being long not able to be beaten in a single sitting a bad thing? That's like complaining that you can't beat Witcher 3 or any other RPG in a single sitting-- I feel like it's a very weak complaint. One hour per level if you're a new player is not a bad thing, as adaptability and experience will make those numbers go down like in any other game. In terms of patrols being too slow, did you ever even notice there's a speed up button? I'm being legit on this question because I only noticed this three missions in and they don't talk about in tutorial IIRC, but that's the players fault, and in this case would be the review's fault for missing that. My final thing is, what the hell is people's fixation with Multiplayer? Not every game needs to have Multiplayer, and this game definitely doesn't need it. I personally wouldn't want to play a MP game where everyone would sit in bushes for hours. All and all I felt your review was pretty fair to the game, including the score.

I'm a happy owner of it on PS4 Pro. No glitches. Yes, maps are large with opportunities for unique environment animations. Voice acting is excellent. The quick save feature is helpful and load times were very quick.

For me. These types of games (Commandos, Desperados, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun) are never meant to be finished in one sitting. For me a mission takes about 1 to 3 hours. Depending on how active I am and how difficult the level is. I usually just play until I feel it's enough then return the next day or some days a head. This game is the true sequel / prequel to the original Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive as well. The two games inbetween tried a slighty different approach. I enjoyed them for what they were but their not perfect or really "need to play" sort of games. I might remember wrong but the older games of Commandos and original Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive were even more about strategy than this game. Here you can do it, often, in a more actionbased way and get away with it. It certainly does look like the older games but I think there are some smaller differences that maybe not everyone will pick up on. These characters are often more powerful than before in a way.. But that might be a natural progression. I do really enjoy this game. I haven't finished the last last thing though. That is intense and I am not sure I like it. It's a cool idea but not sure how many will appreciate it. It really breaks the flow of the game for me. I do think it be fun to have more characters to play with. Maybe just one for a mission or two like the little girl in the original game if anyone remembers it. Multiplayer could get cool too... But I'm guessing it require a "service" the company are not big enough or willing to put up at this point. Isn't most problems these days with online and multiplayer games? I like this game and if you do as well... Shadow Tactics is very similar. One level especially made me go "hey, I almost played this before!". Both stellar games. Perfect? Well.. I do think these games could get even better and I hope they will. For what it is: It's very enjoyable and it shows they put much effort into is. Not just a cheap way to make money of an old series. I also rate it something like 4 / 5.

As been said already, the game being long is a good thing in my opinion. Also, there is extra content now, the baron missions are also a cool extra challenge! I think 8/10 is a fair assessment though!

I love this game. By far the best in the series since the first Desperados game, although helldorado was ok too. But it is a very faithful prequel, although the basic revenge story is pretty disappointing, especially since desperados 2 was subtitled "cooper's revenge". Still an awesome game though.

Del, I love ya like a cousin twice removed… but you've _GOTS_ to put that microphone closer to your mouth (if you're using the headset). If you're using a USB or XLR microphone, don't be afraid to turn up the gain! Just stay out of the red and you should be okay, for your purposes, at least. You (and xer0 on Twitch) are so difficult to hear most the time, especially when you're on with AJ, but sometimes even right here on the Rapid Fire Reviews! *Side note:* Compression would fix almost all AJS audio issues. Really, you guys could get away with just learning some compression basics, something you can do inside of OBS, and it will prevent the need for the viewers to have to keep _drastically_ changing the volume when you go from typical voiceover sections to the Twitch stream clips, and from having to turn it up to hear you & OJ just to have to quickly turn it back down when AJ speaks. It'll also protect _your_ ears (as well as ours) when AJ starts screaming! You and Alex won't have to keep taking your headsets off! If you ever need help or advice, I'd be more than happy to offer some remote audio tech assistance.

I liked the game, but I felt Blade of the Shogun was the superior game. More memorable set pieces and maps, more impactful stories, more challenges that makes sense (the story makes you actively try to avoid killing Shogun's man, while you can pretty much gun down all in Desperados). If you are on the fense about this game, try BotS first as it is usually cheap at this point. I got it for free on Epic store, but dont expect that to come back anytime soon.

It is the successor to Shadow Tactics, made by the same studio. Don't listen to Ouroboros. He seemingly doesn't know what "Reskin" actually means. Simply due to the different setting there are gameplay differences that already make it "Not a reskin".

@ouroboro's Almighty conflagration mcburn well, abilities from Copper, Kate and Doc are almost the same from the first Desperados (back in 2001). Copper has the coin ability instead of the watch and Doc doesn't have the use of the ballon for example. So, if we are to talk about carbon copies, then Shadow Tactics copied from Desperados 1, which in turn was a copy of Commandos
