The only thing that they have in common is that they play the villain role because of their upbringing, but Shrek decided to be scary because everybody was automatically scared of him due to being an ogre, Gru became a villain because he wanted to be an astronaut but his mother never paid any attention to him which made him depressed so he put on the villain persona so people would recognize his talents.

I actually enjoyed it. The references to the 80's, seeing what the mentality of a former child star being broken can cause.. and seeing drew was actually great to see. And yes, the minions may be in there but i enjoyed their little moments they had in the movie, I didn't see their full movie and I think it was best keeping the minions as the comic relief and part of the entertainment.

This review feels really unfair. I wasn't particularly keen on Despicable Me 2, but I thought this film was actually really good. They gave the Minions their own small side-story and didn't rely on them all that much for cheap laughs; I actually admired that. There was a lot of sharp wit and good character comedy. And they had multiple plot lines that you really didn't know the outcome for when it started. There were some missed opportunities, but it was still a thoroughly entertaining film.

I remember seeing this movie back when it came out. When it ended, unlike the other two films, I was disappointed. It had too many plot lines that went absolutely nowhere, and it was advertised with Gru returning to being a villain, which they didn't even bother going with. Its so weird that the trailer was actually good and sold me on the film, but the movie ended up being a mess. I dont think its horrible, but its really disappointing. 6/10 for me.
