1944 Canadian right hand drive Chevrolet military truck, found in the remote forest of British Columbia. The first time I saw this truck was about ten years ago, and at that time I believe it had been sitting in that exact location for decades already. It is remarkable how little rust and how little change there has been, but I suppose things were just built that tough for the military.
The truck looks small now, but it has actually sunk a fair bit into the ground, and of course the tires are all gone now. The engine is still in the truck, minus the head, and the rest of the drivetrain is complete. All in all, it is a very neat piece of history sitting out there, and a vehicle that is far from a common discovery. There has been a lot of logging in this area over the years, so I am guessing that provided the road infrastructure to get a truck into this location, though today there is barely a hint of a trail. I believe the cabin is an old trappers cabin, but that has also sat vacant and abandoned now for decades.
Horsefly lake is a beautiful place to spend a little time and do some exploring, and I was delighted to meet some great local fans while in the area.

The truck is a WW2 era Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck. Commonly known as the Ford or Chevrolet Blitz here in Australia. The one in the video is a Ford due the flathead V8, Chevys had a straight 6.

I was actually in that truck when it was in really nice shape, that cabin is called Gun Smoke cabin and is the site of the largest grizzly being shot in the Cariboo by the owner of the cabin at the time, Clifford E Carlson, after it stalked him for days on end.I have a cabin a few kms from there and have been on the lake for 55 years

So big question, with the world changing and we in North America (Canada, US and Mexico) have to become more self-reliant with supply chains etc. Many of these places visited could once again become populated for natural resources. While one side of me feels "keep these for future generations" the other side of me feels "this is why many places have been protected for times like the current" Would it be tragic or a good thing if many of these places became populated again? Just a thought is all My personal opinion is, we never should've outsourced so much as it really hurt the people the most.

@@thereissomecoolstuff I'm not sure how to respond to this. Obviously you have not watched much of Dustin's adventures, his close work with bears is legendary and gripping video. Me? For 30+ years we have tent camped all over northern Vancouver Island (home), northern BC, Northwest Territories and Yukon and not once had a bad outcome with any bear, despite seeing many. Our record was 11 in one day on the Cassiar Highway, northern BC. You have trouble with bears at places like Yellowstone where folks feed them, leave garbage around, etc. Come up north, real true north and you will find very little bear/human interaction because we tend to respect the bears, the land and our place in it.

Hello Dustin, I could post this on any one of your great videos, but I just want to record heartfelt appreciation for Destination Adventure. I live in the UK, but in 2005 I spent the best part of a year exploring BC and the Yukon in a very basic van. I went back again several times after that. I covered every paved road and a lot of the dirt ones too! Now I'm too poor and (probably) too old to do the stuff I did back then, so it is just such an affirming part of life to follow your channel. Of course, I didn't have a drone on my trips so that adds a huge dimension. I used to write a blog about my journeys, and have now written a novel set in BC (I worked for a spell in Ashcroft). Let me know if you'd like to be in touch.

Great to see Emmy made it over, Did you let her have a try captaining the boat? :0) Any further thoughts as to why there would be a Right hand drive truck there - Reading others comments, has it been imported from Australia? I mean, I feel right at home as it's the same in the UK, but it's certainly not only out of time but place eh? I read that Canada changed from Left to Right side driving in the 1920's to make it easier for US Traffic crossing the boarder, but the truck is a war era so it was made after Canada's change over - Jimmy 5 Needs More Input! 🤖

That''s a (CMP) weapons carrier, right hand drive. a WW2 truck built by Ford and or Chev. They had hundreds of them stationed in NL during the war. You can still find them abandoned in Newfoundland, as they were used to run sawmills and carry saw logs out of the country. There were lots of old trucks left here after the war when the American bases closed in the 40's-60's.

It is amazing how the science of “climate” is settled 10, no wait 25, no…50 years in the future but the weather forecast for Thursday? Not so much… Anyhoo, thank you for the great visit to Horsefly Lake country.

Archie creek is a place that I am very familiar with. He mentioned the cabin at Archie Creek and how it Hadn’t been disturbed. Unfortunately it has. People Have picked over it and taken stuff away. There used to be some cool Traps hanging on the wall of the cabin. One of the comments mentioned the fact that the owner of the cabin had shot a very large grizzly. My dad was one of the first people to find him after that ordeal. He had been trapped in the cabin for three days and was very happy when my dad and his friend stopped by. Would have been around 1965.

hey was out walking scruffy and chomper and saw you driving out of town. After supper scruffy and chomper told me we should go out find you to give you some fly's. well I drove out to the lake and turned around at the boat ramp there. On the way back I could see your truck parked out on the point so we pulled in I didn't knock. Thought that mite have been rude. So I left some on the side step by the driver door in a small jar. hope you like them. Made sure they where all ones a tied.

Epic advenure as always! The truck was probably used to haul supplies for the cabins over the lake when it was frozen (duh). The cabins are made of planks and not timber and unless you have a sawmill at site I guess planks/lumber would have to be transported there ice road trucker style with other things needed for a cabin or two. This is off course if no roads where present at the time.
