We played three of the scenarios. I felt like I was randomly clicking on each point with no idea where I was going half the time. It seemed some characters had easier to identify stories (or I’m just stupid). Also, once somebody gets all their clues, there’s no way to catch up, so from that point you’re basically a passenger for their win. Ended up selling it and don’t miss it!
@BoardGameBollocks11 ай бұрын
Indeed. If someone is lucky enough to fall onto their ‘clues’ then they’re away. There’s no real way to fail the finale and I find myself wanting the game to end so I can do something else.

As we say most revered of youngsters. Bollocks. I adore your work and have created some small recyclable shrine to you in my spare room. I hope to eventually turn it into a bicycle. Appreciate what you do. As you may know there is a growing movement to confine game reviewers to the Bastille. I could never agree. Probably.

One thing I don't like about Destinies is that it does become more of a video game as you navigate your character across the map within the app; I'll notice my mini on the board is on a tile from a few turns back. Having to remember to move your character twice (virtual and mini) feels sloggy.
@BoardGameBollocks11 ай бұрын
Why doesn’t the app have your mini on the last tile you visited? Seems like a ridiculous over sight.

The tiny "epic scale" miniatures were an unfortunate result of this game originally being designed as a Time of Legends: Joan of Arc companion. That was abandoned after the Mythic Games settlement with Bernard Pascal, but Lucky Duck had the minis designed already at that point.

I enjoyed the game. It's not perfect, but a game that guides you through and really helps with the setup is great for a neurodivergent group with the attention span of a squirrel on whizz. The minis are difficult to tell apart but I didn't find the minis than necessary. Could easily be done with a named token and bring down costs. I was lucky to win it from the Lucky Duck Games rep at Dungeons and Flagons events in Manchester. We'd played it there, loved it then managed to win it. It would be nice to have more scenarios in the Bix but I have heard there are a bunch of homebrew ones out there.

@thereal457911 ай бұрын
Sometimes the screens can handle ALOT of not ALL the fiddly-ness that comes with certain genres of games. Such as managing branching story decisions so you're not playing "Filing the board game" and spending ample time looking for specific things. But ya, I understand what your saying none the less.

Drag games seems to be a bit of a problem these days. I'm not really sold on games that need/use apps. IDK, I like to unplug when I'm playing a game at the table. Even with my 10" tablet, it's just like, this weird lets crowd around the tablet experience. I get the concept, even appreciate the idea of having like, a virtual DM. I think even though I have a small group of people I play games with, I'd rather find an experience tailored to that group, than one that requires a virtual participant... But hey, to each their own.

I’m sure the game’s good but a couple of big drawbacks for me: 1. Fucking QR codes on fantasy themed game cards. 🤮 2. App can just disappear off Appstores, bricking the game 3. Couldn’t this have just been a more affordable app game without all the tabletop stuff?

I thought this game was fun, but I will say I think the replayability is not as high as I would like. Like you said as a con, the other players see what is going on so you reveal stuff they need and waste your turn. I rate replayability really high, especially the more expensive the game is. Best app driven game I have played is Return to Dark Tower. Friend has it, we have played it 3 times, tons of fun.. really expensive though.
@Mark-nh2hs11 ай бұрын
Return to Dark Tower is that not the remake of the 80s game Dark Tower - I vaguely remember it. I've heard the app mechanism is good and they shook up the whole game mechanics I guess.
@prisk197011 ай бұрын
@@Mark-nh2hs yeah I think it is the remake. The app is really slick. It allows you to make adjustments to things it doesn't know about so the game is kept updated (like if you have a power/skill or item that lets you remove an enemy from the board without a fight, so it knows what is still on the map). The tower runs off batteries. It has chomped through a set of batteries every time we play (AA if I remember correctly, 3 or 4 of them). It lights up, makes noises, tosses skulls out onto the map and shows what negative effects are in certain regions. It is really well done and fun to play with a lot of scenarios. It is though very expensive from what I saw when I skimmed online after playing it with my friend.
@Mark-nh2hs11 ай бұрын
@@prisk1970sounds epic. Yeah I just looked at it online - you would need to take out a loan to buy it 😂. But it does look good. I wish they would remake "The Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs". Loved that game as a child and would be intrigued to see how they would remake it.

I bounced off this game hard. It was not a board game to me, but an interactive story. You are right, it makes no sense that your character is half a map away and discovers something and the other players also know that now. Thematically falls flat. It is ultimately just a series of skill checks while blindly stumbling about the map. It is gorgeous and well made, but for me it was not the type of RPG I enjoy. 6/10
