Rise of Iron holds a special place in my heart in my history with Destiny. Late 2016 was when I joined Destiny after it was recommended to me by my dad and then the rest was history. 6 years later and I’ve stayed loyal to this franchise ever since.

Rise of Iron is by far the most underrated expansion we’ve ever gotten. The fact that it was a rushed expansion as well is just mind boggling. The story was some great world building for the Iron Banner mode. SIVA was outstanding as well, having a fantastic appearance and lore. It gave us WoTM, which is still my favorite raid Bungie has ever made (D2 King’s Fall is really close to it though). The Dawning was really fun and it’s a shame that it’s now a shell of its former self. The weapons were great. Genesis Chain, Palindrome, Burning Eye, and so many more will always be some of my favorite weapons. Age of Triumph was easily the best non-expansion update in Destiny’s history. Being able to wield Fatebringer after never getting it was so cool and the ornaments for the raid armor are some of the coolest looking designs in any video game. The special ammo change was upsetting, but as it stands right now, D1 PvP is still in a great state.

@equinoxruinouseffigy78562 жыл бұрын
hell no. Story had good ideas but had zero depth to any of it and it was up to the player imagination to actually make anything interesting out of it. SIVA broke the lore and wasn't all that interesting compared to every other force in the universe. The raid was great, really didn't feel that pivotal to the story. All we got was literally just "oh, also these fallen have a leader. Kill him whenever". Like what the hell is that? the plaguelands activity also really wasn't anything to write home about and the location was fairly small. If anything this expansion is overrated for the content it actually gave us.
@JediKnight12002 жыл бұрын
Agreed its amazing

Wrath of Machine's raid system was by and far the best conceived. SIVA Key Fragments were basically proto-Spoils of Conquest but even better. With every encounter complete, you got a handful, just like Spoils. However, you could combine a certain quantity into a Key that could be used to double-dip for any encounter's loot pool if you so chose (instead of like Spoils of Conquest which requires you to beat the last boss in order to spend them). And if you preferred, you could *also* use them to reroll perks on the guns from the raid *or* reroll stat distribution (not total quantity if I recall) on the raid armor. By and far was the most generous raiding reward system to date and I really wish it came back.

This was peak Destiny for me. Age of Triumph was a cherry on top. The ammo economy in PvP wasn't my fave. All I wanted was a fusion rifle that had an intrinsic perk like Invective or Icebreaker to get around it. I was a big vooper fan back then in PvP.
@NovemberHotel2 жыл бұрын
Vooping was a way of life in d1. Despite all the nerfs to fusions I still found a way around them and used whichever was best for the time. Thesan, plan c, plug one…man..good times in d1 pvp.

My friends and I used to have a running joke in D1 about my skills in SRL. When it came around I was so new to the game and oblivious in general that I never knew there was a free 150 speed sparrow given out at the start of the event; I did the entire thing with a green rarity sparrow and no SRL gear, and I was a natural at it. I might’ve sucked at PvP, and I might’ve sucked and PvE too, but I was the BEST godamm sparrow racer they’d ever seen.

I started with the beta and vanilla Destiny 1 but I dropped off before the dlcs or even doing VOG; my friends left and I didn’t feel like playing by myself. But hearing some rumors and news about the dlcs, experiences and then of course taken king marketing got me into playing everything I missed. Getting Vex Mythoclass on my first try in VOG before Taken King lol. It was a great time and since taken king I’ve not missed a moment in destiny history. But Rise of Iron to age of triumph for me was some of my favorite gaming moments with friends, LFGs, and randoms. I really do miss those times lots of good, bad and odd choices have been made since then some for the better other for the worst and other decisions finally getting fixed or brought from D1 to D2. I would love a destiny 1 pc port/next gen update to play again; I did make a second account inspired by November’s series and it’s been fun. But I would love for destiny 2 to push forward with new activists, raids and concepts and keep some of the d1 stuff and others in a master chief collection for all of us to go back and play again. Being a huge fan of military technology, this expansion was a clear winner for me. The Fallen being my favorite enemy race and Wrath of the Machine being the coolest raid I've played. I got the full armor set with ornaments for my Warlock. Sadly, I came in too late so I missed out on these events (I'm lying, I was there for The Dawning as I got the game on Christmas Eve. Waking up the next morning to the iconic Iron Lords theme).

@BalthazarDesign2 жыл бұрын
Ah Rise of Iron. My first Expansion I was therefor from the beginning, I have so many good memories in there, but at the same time looking back at how amazing D1 ws around this time makes me a little upset of D2's current state, Especially when it comes to things like Strike specific loot and the rarity of exotics. and how Rise of Iron seems to be '' uninportant'' in the waves it left on the story, even with its popularity Wrath is still one of my favorite raids, and doing the Outbreak quest was wild,sadly it glitched for our third fireteam member. The Archons forge is such a fond memory, the hours we spend in there trying to get loot is insane. I still personally think the plaguelands version of the Cosmodrome was a lot more fun then the normal one, and I'm still upset Bungie isn't adding the Rocketyard or plaguelands to the current game. I personally think the game would benefit from a location like the Court of Oryx or Archons forge. or even better an activity like the Prison of Elders or the Menagery. I am surprised about SNL, I never played it durign the dawning, maybe we were just too busy doing other things around that time, or had no interest in it at the time. I dont quite recall. Age of Triumph was great, and even when other games began to take priority for us we came back at least twice a week for a nightfall. Cant wait for your D2 Vanilla video dude, Keep this amazing content up!

Me and Destiny had a very bumpy road I started playing the game back in summer of 2014 little after the house of wolves expansion. I never played a looter shooter before the only one I have ever played was Borderlands 2 but never got into it. after a little bit of poking and prodding from my friend he left his copy of the game at my place so I could try it out and if I liked it he said he would end up getting me the game so that way we could play together. my first ever class was a hunter and I fell in love with the game from there I end up playing the rest of the summer and spending time with friends talking about Destiny, living destiny, but I've been mostly loyal to the franchise for the past 8 years and I'm still playing today and cant wait until light fall and the final shape to finally see this story come to a close after so many years.

Another important bit with Rise of Iron was when they broke away from last gen consoles (Xbox 360 & PS3) stating that the size of the game was too big to work with them that to include Rise of Iron they would need to take away an expansion like Dark Below or House of Wolves, some explanation like that. PS3 & Xbox 360's last big update was the April expansion.

For me… reading the Hype about Destiny 1 in magazines, to watching Joseph staten play through it at E3 that year I believe, I was hooked…I played the alpha and beta for D1.. and I was a Day One D1 Player.. played it from start to Age of Triumph.. D1 is and will always be my favorite game of all time… so many great memories.. I could jump on the PS4 at any time and easily see 20/30 friends online playing D1.. doing a Raid was no problem.. we were all excited hearing about Destiny 2, we all tried the Beta.. something’s felt a little off. All my friends bought it, as did I. We all played the Red War Campaign.. and one by one they all stopped playing.. I continued up until Curse of Osiris.. after that I quit D2, the game was awful.. I got back into it with BEYOND LIGHT.. it’s fun, way better than it was at launch.. but none of my friends from D1 play it, I only play with a handful of people now, and as of typing this, they are taking a break from it. D2 just doesn’t have the draw power that D1 had.. I’ll honestly play until Final Shape and then I’m done..

Excited to see how the D2 videos play out as someone who only started D2 in Forsaken where most things had been changed, a bit sad though after going through these videos as its made me more conscious of the stagnation in D2 over these past few years.

I LOVED Rise of Iron and everything that came after until D1 ended. One thing they I really appreciated about the ROI story, was the opening cut scene of the Iron Lords. Just the brief scene with Jolder sacrificing herself and Saladin rushing toward her, made me care about the characters for for the first time in Destiny. It was the first, and only time, romance was hinted at the game. That alone made the Iron Lords far more interesting than any others in the game. That's the kind of thing that makes people care about the characters, not over glorified vendors. Bungie missed a huge opportunity with this. They should have gone further with it.

I liked Rise of iron. Destiny 1 was still far from "PERFECTED", in my opinion, but... RoI *was* the "SIVA DLC" so I'll let it go for the sake of the pun. I was on my first year of medical school when it came out, and I vividly remember skipping on a few lectures to have a chance to play the game some more. I woke up super early for launch and mannnn, we encountered hordes and hordes of Beaver errors (least I think that's what the code was) before managing to get in. Had I never played Destiny before, I'd have said that the campaign was disappointingly short, but at that point in the game's life cycle, I pretty much expected mediocrity when it came to campaigns, and this expectation was met. Bungie really did try to convey that "epic" feeling surrounding the Iron Banner and the Iron Lord's struggle against SIVA and we dealt with it (mostly) in 5 missions. It was over much too quickly. When Saladin inducted me into their ranks, I just kind of stood there awkwardly receiving my Young Wolf's Howl... I wasn't feeling it. Fortunately the raid came around and it really elevated the DLC for me. Picked up a group of LFG randoms and we just threw ourselves at it over the weekend. I remember one of them saying something along the lines of "this is it boys, *this* is where our money goes into" and that kind of thinking has stuck with me ever since because it's true: to some people, some forms of content (the raid in this case) is what really "makes or breaks" the DLC for them... and in this instance, I agreed with that sentiment. The raid was the linchpin that held RoI together. Everything else felt just kinda... meh. A pretty fun expansion overall but it peaked a bit early for me. Even Age of Triumph only lifted RoI slightly in my mind. You see, at the point Age released, I'd already played quite a bit of those older raids, so even if the ornaments and exotics provided a draw to redo them, I'd be lying to you if I said I was super duper extremely hyped for it or anything like that... which honestly is fine. Age of Triumph was meant to be there to more or less hold us over until Destiny 2 released, and in this regard, I think the event did a fine job.

Only Shadowkeep, beyond light and witch queen are left. I don't know but I like the fact with D1 it's a complete game. Flawed though it might be. D2 will never be complete thanks to parts of the game being 'sunset' or in the content vault. I would've preferred a D3, maybe D4 with all of this content (Lightfall, and New Shape to come) . Separate discs, with the seasonal gameplay being live(online) with the most recent one. I. e. We can go back and play through it all if we wanted. Thoughts?

So if this was destiny's literal golden age, are we in the collapse now?

After this it was all down hill, and it took them sunsetting the breakneck auto rife for me to uninstall entirely. The game now costs way too much for too little and worst of all the 1 thing I loved in destiny 2 was mowing down mobs with my breakneck and loaded question... Now gone. I just want a "Destiny Classic" that would basically just be a Destiny 1 port to PC with cross save.

Destiny Rise Of Iron is still flourishing with players, a pity the "veterans" don't come back and play it.

I'll stand by that the weapons, armor, music, and raid are the only good things to come out of RoI. Story was poorly written, rushed, and while clearly had the makings of an emotional story, it couldn't capitalize on any characters or story moments. And it was short as hell. I got through it in less than an hour. Plague lands aren't really that interesting other than the effects on siva being very grotesque and fascinating. The fallen were mechanical not interesting to fight outside of the spider tank. siva kind of broke the lore in regards to how powerful it was. the fallen had no villains at all outside of axis who was talked about once and then we faced him in the raid. The environment and ideas of the expansion were alright, but there was little depth. No way in hell this perfected the game, especially compared to what d2 gets all the time.

I'm gonna be real, I wasn't a fan of the vendor refresh for Rise of Iron. All the faction gear looked and felt kinda bland, and same for crucible and strikes. Don't get me wrong the weapons were sick, but I wish they had put in a little more effort for the armor

I couldn't stand it because I actually expected more than 5 story missions. It turned me off of Destiny so hard. Edit: Did you just say 5 missions is a decent sized campaign? I was done with it in an hour and a half. I play the game for the lore so to see them do more of the same shitty storytelling they have been laying down for all of Destiny thus far, I got burned for thinking the expantion would change something because the Taken King was good.

When you realize that a rushed DLC from 2016 was better than most DLC's in current Destiny 2 💀
