Creativity exists in gaming, its just in the indie scene. Because unlike these AAA companies they are willing to take the risk on a weird idea. Remember when square made Vagrant a story, a well loved, fun game that didn't sell 2 billion copies? They would never do that now

The amount of idiocy in these comments hurts my soul November. Now, I don't really know much about you personally, but I've been a viewer of your content for a whilr, & it does a good job highlighting the plight of modern gaming & how the profit incentive has poisoned your passion. Im glad this didnt seem to affect you much. Please keep releasing these types of videos; we need more people to wake up & see that they're being conned. ❤

Thanks man, appreciate the comment. I just want to see the industry turn things around and it only can if people don’t accept the slop these companies put out. It genuinely is sad seeing these comments defending Bungie and now a little over a month later most everyone is sharing the sentiment I expressed in this video. Always funny to see how that happens like clockwork with my videos haha

A lot of modern games are hard to play because there’s so much shit in the screen rendered in high fidelity that it all just blurs together. Simple, stylized graphics will always be superior.

the answer i know is the fact destiny 1 was made with quality in mind the game ran 30fps so bungie could do even more to the art and enviroment. half of it is missing on d2 because d2 was designed with performance where you can play 120fps. so the lower fps a game has the more detailed its gunna be. I guess they need to be careful because the more they do the more it affects fps.

This is certainly one of the better videos addressing the issue of live service in games. The thing is, this isn't just a gaming problem. Virtually every industry under the sun is attempting, in some way, shape, or form, to implement some variation of live service to their products. One infamous example is BMW wanting owners to pay a subscription fee to use the car seat heaters. Another note, something you don't mention, and actually I see nobody mention is how live service has conditioned players to believe games, even singleplayer games, MUST be updated every week/month/bi-monthly or, as they scream at the top of their lungs, "GAME IS DEAD!". When games are being released constantly as incomplete, buggy messes, nobody notices. The conditioning becomes glaring when this is being applied to decades-old, completed-at-launch, and still popular games like Team Fortress 2, a game released in 2007. It had no battle passes, in-game shops, or much of anything other than the core gameplay, servers that players start up and run themselves, the ability for players to make their own custom maps, and a heaping mountain of fun. Valve went and made a huge mistake trying to turn TF2 into a live-service game because they thought it was necessary in order to compete with Overwatch when they didn't need to at all. I still play TF2 but I don't touch matchmaking.

If you watched the making of BF1. It'll be no surprise why this game was so well made. The amount of hard work and passion from everyone involved in the creation of this game is astounding. And because this game was not politically driven like most anything that comes out these days are. It was a fantastic experience since everything felt it was real in this game. Of course it's not 100% historically accurate. But because it was so well made it feels like it was.

If you think that’s bad, go ahead and open up apex legends for me. Skins that are only sold in bundles with an undesirable weapon skin that costs 10$ itself if it was on its own. Mid weapon skins that are the exact same price as a LEGENDARY SKIN for a legend. Loot boxes that only ever give you a small amount of crafting materials and a common skin for a character you don’t play and yet loot boxes are the only way to get the highly sought after heirlooms. And also recently, loot boxes that cost 10 whole bucks, that have a significant chance to just give you a banner frame and common crafting materials. Apex makes destiny 2 look like the Elden ring of live service monetization

It is peak battlefield. The visuals, the mechanics, the atmosphere, the sound. It was jaw dropping when it came out. I still remember the first time i sniped a pilot out of a cockpit while he was swooping to lay down fire... what a game. 30k multiplayer kills with the Mondragon Storm alone on xbox.

Live service games need government regulation. It's past time, especially for games aimed at kids. Games with gambling mechanics need an automatic R18+ rating. Hard parental advisories on store fronts that the games involve gambling and require payer confirmation. We won't let a minor into a casino but we'll let them drain a credit card on annual digital deluxe NBA 2K games and virtual sports cards and mystery boxes. It's fucked.

The lesson is one that many software engineers make. Engineers strive to optimize everything they can. Its a career that appeals to optimizer personalities. So its only natural for them to need to squeeze every bit of graphical optimization into their work. But designers know that for everything you optimize you must sacrifice something else. It becomes VERY important as you build something to deeply consider and re-evaluate your success criteria at every step. The 80/20 rule prevents much improvement after a point, while requiring ever increasing amounts of work to get there. What AAA studios need to realize is that we're WELL beyond the uncanny valley and don't really need more graphical improvement. So it makes sense to deprioritize ultra-realistic graphics and re-prioritize gameplay, storytelling, pacing, etc. Gamers should not have to buy a $3000 rig with a terabyte of storage just to play the new titles.

Developers have to make sure games are immersive but its also up to the players. Like how often do most gamers focus on making the action look clean and cinematic? How often does a player slowly swing the camera around or walk instead of running around like a headless chicken. They give us the colors and canvas but its on us to paint the picture.
