Well, think about it. Here you are, conscious and aware of your surroundings but have no memory, a tabula rasa, and you're being told by this orb like thing to get to safety; then it happens... You suffer your first and very painful death only for the same orb that told you to keep moving suddenly reviving you and fully healing you but you still remember the death. Now, rinse and repeat numerous times and that's the life of a newly Risen (ones whom haven't fully unlocked their latent potential to become, at first, marauders and militant "leaders" with non-lightbearers under their "wing"). The Dark Age after the Collapse was hell on earth for centuries until the Lightless and Risen made their way to where the Gardener (The Traveler, The Great Machine, The Sky) was resting, dormant, after its sacrifice to create the orbs which call themselves Ghosts. The rest? Well you know how the City Age is so that's where we are now in Destiny's story. That's my hot take on the story of the early years of the Destiny universe post-Collapse.

Perhaps the changes that create guardians are, in part, genetic. Guardian children might well inherit some or all of their abilities. This would create a ruling class bifurcating (or is it BYFurcating?) Humanity into two halves forever unequal. Something that Traveler would want to avoid. Also the fact that there aren't guardian spawn running around - and are never mentioned - is also a pretty big clue that guardians are sterile.
@loserinasuit78803 жыл бұрын
Well not really guardians are still human. Our bodies physically die that most likely makes us sterile and is what causes our loss of memory. But I highly doubt there is any tampering on a genetic level. It's most likely all cellular regeneration. Or in the case of a destroyed body simply reconstructing it to the letter from atoms.
@scottmccrea18733 жыл бұрын
@@loserinasuit7880 it's a six of one/half a dozen of the other situation. Guardians having kids would fundamentally change society. It would mean as years went on more and more guardians would be human [instead of exo & awoken cuz awoken can't have kids like normal humans]. The ramifications of that alone would be huge. Are you a Babylon 5 fan? With guardians having kids something like the Psicorps would come into being. Guardians would be a ruling caste even more so than they are now. Also, I read the "You can't have a son" in the same ways, yeah. Either Saladin (and guardians) realise that they *shouldn't*, but still can, technically...or, they're all sterile, as a result of the Light's influence on their bodies...or, the specific thing that Saladin can't, because of an issue or a moral code he keeps.
@BarelyBlairBear3 жыл бұрын
I feel like due to being dead for who knows how long before being found by a ghost would be a pretty big factor. Does every single organ/cell/bone/etc become brand new and functional again when rezzed? Do pre-existing conditions become erased, like a lost limb from birth or epilepsy? We know the benefits from being brought back with immortality, superpowers, and so on. Curious what the full scope of negatives are too for guardians.
It’s weird, that jab about the Red War from Crow seemed so funny back in the Season of the Chosen. Now all I can think about is that Crow REALLY owes Saladin an apology... and Petra... and Osiris (sort of). Did this armor set drop back in Season of the Chosen? It would've made made the story so much more dynamic and interesting. I'm very annoyed that Crow's abuse at the hands of other Guardians but especially that of Spider has been largely ignored. Shouldn't the Vanguard be concerned about someone abducting New Lights and enslaving them? What's to stop Caiatl from doing that? Or the Reef since Petra threatened to return Crow to Spider. Lord Saladin is the first character aside from the player to show righteous anger over Crow's abuse. If he'd known sooner, Lord Saladin probably would've tried to rescue Crow. I really hope these two interact more in the near future.

I feel the only real hurdle to Crow and Saladin becoming close friends as a mentor and student, is the fact that Crow remembers his past life now, and he did unforgivable things as Uldren Sov. Knowing who you used to be before becoming a Guardian is something Saladin hasn’t experienced and probably can’t relate to, he would probably do all he could to comfort Crow somehow. But, considering how deeply Saladin cares about honesty, loyalty and integrity, he may appreciate Crow for sharing such sensitive knowledge. After all, Crow’s past life isn’t much of a secret.

Having the ability to make children brings a ton of down sides, from female guardians being pregnant (9months out of battle) to sorrow after outliving your own family or even abandoning the traveler to live simple life far from constant war
@starlightthewolf66123 жыл бұрын
Even if Guardians could get pregnant, how would is work? If they die do their child get ressurrected too? Or are Guardians always brought to the state they were in during their first resurrection, riding the child from existence? Bungie saying they can't is an easy way to doge these questions

Guardians can live longer than the mortal even their life span are tripled. If they had family they will gain happiness, but soon the happiness will diminish, seeing time passed yet the guardian never change and all those around him/her will be gone. That is something far worst than death.

At the same time the Traveler is referred to as a gardener. It would make sense for it to allow guardians to uh...cross-pollinate with normal humans. Shin Malphor and Jaren Ward show that ghosts can even be inherited through adopted family lines. If the ghost can't revive it's charge but can escape, it wouldn't have to find a new guardian.

Fun theory. Beyond light we had the story of Clovis being reborn as Banshee, and then instantly going against what the AI (himself before he was reset) wants, basically saying that the past does not judge the person. Season of the hunt we got crow, who had a past life as underneath, who he has turned against and become a guardian of good, finding his own path. Season of the chosen we had Caiatl, who came to offer an armistice even though she knew the guardians didnt trust cabal at all after the red war. Season of the splicer was the same deal with mithrax, who came for help even after his kind had killed so many people of the city. And now we have savathun, who has yet to show her real had but still offers peace. I think a takeaway from the past four seasons is to not judge people by their past, or the past actions of their kind. This whole campaign has been about making “allies” with the three main alien races, so who knows what’s in store for witch queen. Maybe light fall will end with a charge of guardians, cabal, hive and fallen all against the darkness. Just a theory.

The name Saladin also has a few extra meanings. The first is “peace through faith” as the direct meaning of his name. The other is who he was named after Yusuf Shadi he was a sultan of Syria and Egypt who fought during the third crusade and has a few parallels with.

I mean. Depending on how exactly Resurections work, female guardians could have a really bad time with pregnancies. I mean, when does life essence individuality start manifesting in a fetus? Would early-stage pregnancies carry over with a rez? I think that the Traveler wanted to create Guardians as a separate entity from humanity itself, a tool to defend complexity, the ring of spears. The, quite literal, fucking around could create issues.

For me, the story of your guardian is largely what you make it. I write a lot of little story beats about my warlock, certain overarching plot things may be defined by bungo yes, but the fact her ghost uses a huge armoured shell because of red war trauma? That's my own spin. The way she views her own ability to wield stasis with distrust though she thinks the crystals are pretty and with a little care she learned how to sculpt them into little shapes for kids in the streets of the city like miniature ice sculptures? All me. Think about what kind of person your titan is, what they'd do and feel in the situations that they find themselves and I think you'll find a lot more invested in them as a character

I think we as a community of guardians need to initiate a counter spell to Savathun's song. A song of our own to combat her magic. A song that represents the light and the factions we fight alongside and sing it loud to drown out and replace the deceiver's song.

So, interesting note from the lore here. Pretty sure Saladin resisted Savathun's song, even if he doesn't realize he did. If that's the case, then we could have the first of our operatives to fight against Savathun. I figure our guardian is immune to the song because power of protag, but if Saladin is immune, then he could probably be either leading us, or at least guiding us during the Witch Queen
