Rhulk was speaking of his home planet, Lubrae. It had two suns, one blue, one black. They held the Planet Lubrae betwixt them, as a binary star system, the Traveler made it possible for that planet to hold life. What eventually was birthed was the Lubraen people. But their society was fractured by the two suns. The Desolate Black Lands, the Prosperous Blue Lands. Rhulk was born under the dark sun, his people were mostly passive and downtrodden. One day his father, a rebel against the rulers of the Blue oppressors, left to face them and never returned. Rhulk grew to be a warrior of great ferocity and savagery. Frightening even his own people. Rhulk was eventually captured by the Blue and brought forth to one of their high ranking officials as a prisoner. It turned out to be his father, who switched sides. Rhulk did not feel betrayed by this but instead followed suit and joined his strength with the Blue, oppressing his former peoples under the dark sun. But Rhulk with time saw the cowardice and weakness of the Blue, so desperate to hold onto their own positions, ones they gained by fortune of birth under the Blue sun they drew power from, not from strength. They sought to recruit strength where they found it, his father, and then himself. Rhulk was disgusted with the weakness of his entire planet, and used the Upended (a device to draw power from the Blue Sun) and reversed the energy, sending it back. This split the Blue Sun in half, and Lubrae was destroyed. From that cataclysm, the Witness found Rhulk and made him his first Disciple. Apologies for any inaccuracies.

Honestly, the beginning of this is some of Destin's worst work. You didn't get to see the first-person ghost crush, you didn't get a good view of Savathun the first time she appears as multiple illusions... terrible, I usually expect so much more from him. Anyways, YOUR reaction was great!

The Traveler was going to gift the Hive the Light back on their homeworld of Fundament long ago but the Witness interfered via Rhulk and worms. She did not steal the light, the Traveler gave her and her people the gift it was going to give to them anyway.

I like to think that it also made this choice after hearing Savathun's Appeal. It wasn't a trick - she was genuinely repentant, and the Traveler gave her a genuine gift in response. She just isn't GOOD, and that is, unfortunately, not something the Traveler cares about as much as we do.

One of the best expansion, rivaling the Taken King from D1. We got so much lore and surprises. It was crazy to see that the Savathun and her siblings were tricked into serving the darkness. The Traveler CHOSE to give the Light to the Hive instead of them stealing it. And lastly the introduction to The Witness, looked so crazy with smoke looking like faces.

Rhulk’s origins (u don’t have to read this if u don’t want to): Rhulk’s civilization called the Lubraean were visited by the Traveler a LONG time ago on their planet Lubrae, a world with two suns. The Traveler uplifted Lubrae’s inhabitants just like it has always done, the Lubraean thrived but the Traveler left later on, causing the civilization to fall into a military dictatorship, The Regime. Rhulk’s family and clan called the Wanderers were hunted by the Stalkers, the ruling arm of the Regime, but Rhulk’s father Rhelik defended the Wanderers by brutally killing the Stalkers, Rhulk saw how his father destroyed their foes, probably impressing him and starting his journey on a dark path. He grew up to be violent and sadistic, scaring his own mother and clan, he soon discovered his father ended up joining the Regime and this seriously pissed him off, vowing to kill his hypocrite of a father. When he finally catches up to him, Rhelik has gone back to the wanderers and with their help, they manipulate Rhulk into getting emotional and hesitant since it’s his family and taking this chance, Rhulk’s own parents shoved him into the Abyss, a vast artificial chasm outside the city, where he cursed them as he fell. Injured at the bottom of the abyss, a surviving Rhulk had suddenly been met with the presence of the Witness itself, offering him a second chance as it grants him the dark powers he had shown he deserved, and with his new powers, he returned to the surface with the intent to kill everyone. Rhulk reached the city where his clan was hiding and hunted down his clan and slaughtered them all, including his mother and father, whom he decapitated. He spared not even the children as the citizens of the city watched in horror of his butchery, eventually causing the Regime to take action and call for his execution. The Witness assisted Rhulk once more and freed him from his restraints, allowing him to enact his most devastating action in his life, he used the Witnesses dark power and the Traveler’s gift to destroy the Sapphiric Sun, one of the two suns of Lubrae. This action destroyed the planet and killed all the Lubraeans except Rhulk, who let’s go of his Glaive and Dark power and drops into the abyss once again, wishing to die and complete the extinction of his species, however instead of perishing, he is saved by the Witness once again. The Witness runs a sort of psychic evaluation by reviewing Rhulks memories. Stopping in the conflicting ones to make Rhulk accept them,and accept the monster he had become without any regrets. There were some moments in which even after Lubrae's ruin he lamented what he did: He actively struggles and demands to stop reliving how he killed his clan, first demanding then ordering then begging, but the Witness helped him accept and wear those with pride. Until in the end, Rhulks conscience is at peace with what he did. He realizes all the unspeakable things he did had to be done to stop the suffering of his planet. Thanks to the Witness, Rhulk ascended to become a terrifying monster which we would know today as *”Rhulk, The First Disciple of the Witness”* There is more lore explaining why he is on Savathun’s Throneworld but I ain’t going to go through all of that, watch the goat Byf for that reasoning. Rip my fingers…

41:45 I Believe there is a lore tab about Fynch and his guardian, as to why he doesn't Revive him, it would answer your question. but someone on reddit has summarized it to "Apparently, per the lore book you unlock from grabbing the moths: Fynch was most unhappy when his Hive Lightbearer butchered a fireteam of Guardians and their Ghosts. It was one of the last few events that caused him to realize the Hive were unworthy of the Light and that he’d made a horrible mistake." btw, his Guardian is still talking to Fynch, even in death.

Just to confirm, the original VA for Ikora was the actor for jessica from suits but she had to step away from the role due to casting conflicts between here and the show as Bungie is in Seattle and the show was recorded in Vancouver so they replaced her with a close match, also just to confirm, Savathun really did want to keep the traveller safe by putting it in her Throne world. As a lightbearer if any point her desires stray from travaller defence, her Ghost can stop channeling light to her and just opt to not revive her.

Damn, Destin did a terrible job with this. What a pity. It looks like he just recorded his first Legendary run with a full fireteam and clipped bits from that. So many impactful sequences he missed or recorded badly, missed highlighting bosses, killing Hive Ghosts or what Hive Guardians are like.

Hey folks thanks for continuing the Destiny 2 reactions, as a matter of fact I react together with you guys since somewhere before Witch Queen is when I left. I do know of some spoilers simply because I watched the trailers for next expansions but for the majority of it I'm going blind. ^^ Listen, I know you guys have a busy schedule but would you consider giving reaction to The First Descendant a try? It's like Warframe but with Destiny 2 elements. It has some cool CGi cinematic trailers, a bunch of "Meet: insert character name" and of course the story with began with pre-season and will be continued in the future. They also have story quests for specific Descendant (first one went to character named "Bunny" who has electric and speed powers). There is like 4-5 amazing looking trailers if you want to get a feel of the game, if you enjoy it's vibe. Most come from gamescom or gameawards or simply launch trailer for pre season and season 1. Anyway, hope the two of you are doing great and I'm looking forward to more videos.

Definitely top three expansions only second to Forsaken and The Final Shape. 38:30: What's interesting about what Bethany is saying is that she's not wrong or right, Savathun has said it herself many times, "I am no villain and you are no hero". Dark and Light are just forces of para-causality and what matters is the hand that uses them. To be clear Savathun is not a good person, she's a genocidal warlord and maniac, but she's stil a person and she's sincere when she says walking among us made her appreciate what we have, there's a story of her spying on our Guardian and Crow in the early days of knowing him as his only friend. Laughing around a campfire and playing with the Light, telling stories of our battles and Savathun becomes envious, she becomes sad and wistful remembering times when she and her sisters did the same. I think the story of Destiny is really about agency, if your actions don't matter than you don't. When Savathun was fooled by the Witness she ceded not just her "Destiny", but her entire races' destiny to another and she never really could stomach that and so she'd conspired to betray the Witness. Savathun was in our Solar System during the collapse, training under Rhulk to become the Witness' next disciple, she betrayed Rhulk by trapping him in his own Pyramid in her Throne World and protected the Traveler by creating an illusion that turned the Witness' eyes elsewhere. Savathun experimented with the Light in base game D2 during the 'Red War' with Ghaul, on Titan her clutch of Hive took over the arcology and were the main force we faced, EVEN THEN she was trying to command the Light. She manipulated and corrupted Riven, the Taken Ahamkara into manipulating Uldren Sov in turn in order to curse the Dreaming City trapping it in a time-loop, she's been the invisible hand at the core of 'Forsaken' this whole time, she did this to find the Distributary where the Awoken come from and use its' time dilation to create a loop-hole for generating Hive tithe's to herself, basically a cheat code to break the Hive's reliance on the worms (She's tried this before with Black Holes and using Vex Simulations). Savathun then drew our eyes to the Moon with the Red Keep in 'Shadowkeep', to alert us to the presence of the Black Fleet. Savathun resurrected and turned Nokris, the villain of 'Warmind' and put him to use in disrupting the Witness' attempts to contact us in 'Season of Arrivals', the secret of Stasis would have corrupted humanity and turned the Guardians against one another, The EXO Stranger/Elsie's (basically Trunks from DBZ) whole point of coming back in 'Beyond Light' is to help us avert her own dark timeline where Guardians ultimately turn against each other and Eris Morn is corrupted and commands the Hive in Savathun's name. She took Osiris' form as her own and helped Zavala ally humanity with Caiatl rather than wage another destructive war, she made sure that Crow would be welcomed after he was persecuted by Guardians and she used Quria, the Vex Mind and architect of the Endless Night to rid the Vanguard of all the factions that would get in the way in the days to come, like Lakshmi and her Future War Cult, making the Vanguard the de-facto leader of the Last City and turning it into a military junta where Zavala and Ikora have all the power, meaning they could welcome in the desperate Eliksni House of Light without any dissenting voices to stop them. She's a villain and yet she's saved us, multiple times.... for her own purposes yes, but still. The Guardian tenets are Devotion, Bravery and Sacrifice, (when she had Mara excise her worm, Savathun knew she would die without it) she demonstrated all three in defending the Traveler and so, it chose her as a Guardian she had faith that the Traveler would save her, she stood up to the Witness who is unfathomably powerful as it commands the Hive and their Gods who are already are powerful enough to have exterminate thousands of civilizations over billions of years and she made the ultimate sacrifice and gave her own life to be reborn in Light and protect the Traveler from the Witness. The fault in not seeing this lies with the Guardian's pseudo-religious view of the Traveler, its' not a "god" it's an entity with its' own will and believes in its' own self-preservation.

So, a few things. The Traveler knew that Savathune was going to trap it in her throne world. The Traveler only cares about it's self and it's own protection. With The Witness closeing in, it decided to go alone with her plan. When ghosts are selecting their guardians, they have a little voice guiding them. The Traveler. It says things like, "Not that one, maybe them? No/ Ok then...hows about that guy?" so while it dosnt 100% make their decission for them, it has an influence.

Take a moment to think about how it was for the people who had been playing for years. Imagine you’ve been playing Destiny for 8 years, you’ve gone from “Oh the Darkness is an evil force,” to “Ok, I’ve killed the champion of the Darkness,” to “Oh, the Darkness itself isn’t evil, but something in it is evil, and I can wield the Darkness,” to finally seeing your enemy for the first time after 8 whole years. Needless to say, it was incredible. Also, one of my favorite things in this entire expansion is the bit where Rhulk is talking about the Upended, and how it destroyed Lubrae, when he says “and Lubrae… died.” There is a palpable sadness in his voice. That, and the entire Shattered Suns lore book (which recounts the story of Rhulk and Lubrae) really give him depth. He’s not a one dimensional villain, he’s almost Anakin Skywalker levels of deep down, he knows he was tricked, but he doesn’t believe he can be redeemed after the atrocity he’s committed.

Excited for you guys to reach the conclusion of the Final Shape eventually. It was an incredible experience. The Witch Queen was a pivotal part of the journey that made one question the loyalties of the Traveler since it willingly bestowed the Light to even one of our greatest enemies. It's intentions will be revealed when you get to that part of the story. As for the Witness, it's a being of dominating power. Hunting it's pawns, breaking down and countering it's grand scheme was a great adventure and made the finale entirely satisfying.

Heck yeaaaah! Witch Queen! Savathun is my favorite. I want her to come back and get a Hive section of the Last City, with Lucent Hive. Just listen to her dialogue - she knows we're besties. She's just very tsundere because of her millions of years of Sword Logic. Vow of the Disciple is one of the best Raids ever, just look at that weird, alien space. You should see the actual encounters... After Lightfall, The Final Shape is AMAZING and makes up for it! You're almost all caught up - the story was finished with the last expansion, so the end and answers to all questions draw near!

Yeah the Traveler granted the Hive the light because they were already chosen to be blessed with the light a long time ago. But The Witness tricked the Hive first. Because the hive were already chosen is most likely why the Traveler let Savathun hide it in its throne world. The Traveler has to consider its options because if the Witness gets it, it will enact its plan known as the Final Shape. It’s unclear even in the most recent destiny 2 expansions, but it might be possible that other previous civilizations that Traveler visited might be able to be chosen by ghosts. During the worm quest you are right to be cautious of Mara Sov. Her contingencies are worrying, she knows about Elsie Bray’s dark future timeline which is where Eris Morn turned into a hive god and basically destroyed us all. That’s why she has these contingencies. What Mara didn’t say during the worm quest is that when she saw our destruction the Witness also wants her as one of its Disciples. Yes the worm spoke the truth, Savathun is a reason why humanity and the Traveler survived. You’ll find out more about what she did during the Lightfall expansion, but her actions halted the Witness while the Traveler did what it did to send the Witness away and put it in some kind of slumber, same way the Traveler was asleep until the events of the Red War. Rhulk was the first disciple of the Witness. It’s unclear how many disciples there are but Rhulk was basically the Witness right hand man. Also Rhulk is actually the most powerful enemy we have faced, we only defeated him because he was so sure of himself and underestimated guardians. If he went all out from the start he more than likely killed the guardians. What Rhulk did to his own planet to earn his spot as Disciple is insane. But know that the Witness disciples are insanely strong and share its goal in enacting what the Witness calls the Final Shape. Obviously I wont say what that plan is but you will find in time

I would definitely look into checking out Esoterrick for his story videos instead of Destin. No offense to Destin, but some stuff moving forward is a bit weird with his cuts

a little bit on mara. i don't know that i would call her emotionless. she misses her brother dearly. and in regard to her ability to detach. She is the /first/ Awoken, and basically a god among them. in the kugelblitz (energy based black hole (instead of matter)) the awoken core resides in, time runs differently. Mara is BILLIONS of years old.

Recap is needed honestly cuz when you play the campaign between scenes could be a hour, you just forgot whats going on Also He didnt show colossal bell with the eye on the side, before last fight. Also, I want to say that Withess looks cringe like Disney bad guy, rather than really creepy interdimensional entity. As for Bungie, I surprised that they did a Parasite quest single time for entire account, for all characters. This is incredibly stupid and cheap.
