The whole song was written for Kelly. That’s why in the video Beyoncé and Michelle is basically trying to help Kelly leave her abusive relationship. Kelly even talks about it in her song dirty laundry. Not only was this song was to help Kelly, it was for all the women that needs to feel love and empower. I love DC!!!

Pretty much the whole album was centered around Kelly's relationship. I remember they said after they took their hiatus and came back together they just talked and did some catching up before writing and recording. Kelly's experience inspired the album to be a story starting out as having a good time and being in love with your partner to falling out of love into a bad relationship and finding God. They were so brilliant at such a young age.
