My theory is Taemin could be singing about : 1. a toxic romantic relationship or 2. his relationship with the industry. I like the the 2nd theory more because like you said, he is a workaholic. Workaholics usually work at the detriment of their own health. Maybe the shady part of Kpop industry also hurts him too, but he lets that shadiness hurt him so he can create more art, which he loves doing. A lot of big companies usually do shady shit to get their artists recognised, there are suspicions that girl group companies sell a girl group member to a rich man, for 1-2 nights a month, without the girl's much consent because the girls are "owned" by the company. Idk what could be happening with boy groups but I bet if companies are willing to sell women to make success happen, what stops them from mistreating their male members too right? And perhaps Taemin, feels like he has also become a criminal by letting the company do whatever was asked of Taemin to do

He should be extremely proud of himself. Taemin's been going non-stop, but in his VLIVE's during the height of COVID, he was going nuts with nothing to do. The meaning behind this song is amazing, it makes the lyric much more meaningful.. I could be wrong, but I would like to think his real self is having Stockholm Syndrome towards his artist persona.. well from what I understand from what Taemin has been talking about lately, all that identity stuff and whatnot, this song is about Taemin's relationship with his persona as an artist that he was trained to present to the public.. all the lyric fit the struggle of his innocent real self and the artist persona that has been consuming him, breaking his innocence esp when he let it overpowering him.. his real self has been attached to his persona like a Stockholm syndrome.. his persona as an artist gives him what he needs but at the same time also chipping away at his real self behind the public lenses.. part of the lyric like so brainwashed all he can do is nod reflect his life as a public figure trained to appease everyone.. all the lyric reminds me of the struggle he would have, as his real self is shy more innocent soul and his artist persona on stage contradict that.. I just draw a new outlook on his song and MV because of your analysis. Here's how I interpreted it now. I saw it as a deeper approach to how he perceives his career - meant to explain how his fans make him feel with their fandom, and the way his haters attack him (including saeseng fans). For Shawols, he is expressing that fame can be a way to destruction of his life as a whole, yet he's addicted to it. He looks for ways to continue pleasing his fans no matter how his work can be demanding for his time to perfect his groove, delivery, and how to attack his fans to want him more and more - a disturbingly never ending cycle. As for his haters, when you get haters, you still get 💯 attention and it can still be very addicting. He's also saying that he'll keep doing what he's doing because he knows you'll come and watch him. No matter how hard he gets hit by criticism, he grasps this and take it in as a positive challenge. That's why he said, "Destroy me more!" He takes both in the good and the bad followers to his own world. He is his own genre. When he dances, you'll feel it in your fingertips. He's not really dancing. He's just doing the "Tae-Min" thing, you know? He doesn't follow the beat, but the beat jumps and flow just to keep up with movements and his vocals. Here in his MV, he takes every detail and makes you hold your breath longer. So you can unknowingly exhale just to make room to breath HIM in deeper. Whether you like it or not, you're entangled into his emotions while he's being called a "Criminal." Eventually, you are going to admit by the end of his performance that he is NOT the one, rather YOU! You're the criminal in his eyes.
