Went to Applebee's 2 years ago and sat there for almost 2 hours. They had 2 large racks of take out food sitting there. I told them they need to take better care of their sit down customers who buy drinks, and desserts, pay sales tax, and tip more. I told them I won't be back ever again, and have stuck to my word
@MMAMG15 ай бұрын
I went to Applebee's and specifically asked for a steak meal without the cheese as our friend was highly allergic. We asked the already disrespectful waitress to please give us a new one. She returned with the same steak but just having scaped off the cheese, you could tell. When prompted again reminding her of the serious allergy she went "Ugghhhh fiiiine" as she walked off. At the end of the sub par meal and sub par service, the tip was already included in the bill. Absolute garbage experience. F grade, never again.
@HH-le1viАй бұрын
They pay sales tax on that order too. As far as tip, that varies just like the people eating in the restaurant. Some will tip very high and some won't but that delivery food isn't tax free. If anything it's almost a tax itself to get it delivered. A $20 meal will be almost $45 delivered.

I've been a chef for 20 yrs. Covid was absolutely a huge shock to the industry, but we are 3-4 years POST lockdown.....the restaurants that are thriving made a pivot and kept on rolling, those that didn't are using it as an excuse. There's a lot of reasons why restaurants close, but these big mega chains like Chili's, Applebee's, On the Border, Red Lobster, tgi fridays, olive garden, etc have been on a steady decline for A LONG time. All of these big chains suffer from the EXACT same problem. They have a bean counter making decisions at the corporate level that's too far removed from operations, quality and service are never factored into decisions, just profits. You can only cut costs so far before your food and service goes to shit. The food and service just isn't good at ANY of these places. They are microwaving entrees, prepackaging entrees, making their sauces in a factory. Did you know you can wipe the grill marks OFF of a chilis chicken breast (it's not cooked on a grill, they're fake grill marks painted on the chicken). Restaurants that have been focusing on food quality and service have been thriving in the same economy these mega chains are failing, with the same food cost inflation, wage hikes etc. As for Uber eats/door dash etc, they've been stealing business from the local pizza joint and fast food. Before the 3rd party apps, the only choice for delivery was pizza or Chinese. It's been a huge boost for mom and pop places (though not without some headaches).
@mindyourbusiness41017 ай бұрын

Even something like going to Starbuck's is expensive and can quickly add up. Imagine you get a cup of coffee on the way into work 5 days per week and it costs $5 each, which I think is actually cheap compared to there lol. I understand all of these financial woes of the restaurants, in Washington state they have to pay their waitresses I think $20 an hour, so how is a small restaurant supposed to cope with that? But, for my $16 for one plate of noodles in a Chinese restaurant I think they should be good! I think they should be well prepared and tasty and not taste like garbage, and this is a consistent problem that the restaurants have. They've raised their prices to keep up with inflation and wages, but the quality of ingredients has gone down and the cooking quality has gone in the basement, and that doesn't have anything to do with the economy! I don't know what the reason is, but I'm tired of dropping 40 or 50 for a very small evening out, and walking away thinking "that was terrible!"

I get good service and someone is not hounding me for a 18% to 25% tip and if I want a beer it ain't $5. We rarely ate out as kids and we rarely ate out when we had 5 kids you "must" watch your spending. We bake our own bread we raise our own meat chickens and have laying hens we buy a half beef from friends at church and they cut and wrap it and I know what it was fed. I'm a Gunsmith, I have customers bring me wild game and fish and we buy fruit and veggies from the farmers market. We live very well for the amount of money we don't have because we don't buy and spend money on stupid shit and most things big we buy used and let some other fool take the loss.

The money that went to big pharma did not come out of restaurant revenues. It is almost exclusively now national debt. Restaurant revenues dropped drastically because of state government lockdowns. That consumer money did not go to vaccines, it was just not spent. You could argue that monetized national debt caused inflation in food and other prices, but this took money from all over, not just restaurants.

I bought a quarter pounder and a medium fries and it cost me $12. A single smash burger costs $16 at this other place. Steak and Lobster at an upscale restaurant costs $40. So I only go to upscale restaurants when an opportunity presents it self, doesn't make fucking sense to go to McDonald or a mid tier restaurant. I make my own burger and stopped going to pubs. Me and my friends buy alcohol and drink at park lol.

That is because places like Red Lobster and Applebee’s are patronized by the working poor. These people can’t afford to go out to eat anymore.
@johnmartin46417 ай бұрын
The reason is upscale restaurants focus on quality and stayed consistent. The non upscale restaurants that focused on lower prices thought they could replace their food with cheaper food and therefore decrease the quality of their food while raising their prices to where there’s no meaningful difference in price between them and the upscale restaurants. The result is people have decided to go to the upscale restaurants to get the higher quality food for virtually the same price, because there’s no reason not to. The non upscale restaurants decided to eliminate their own competitive advantage and price themselves out of the market and handed all of the leverage over to the upscale restaurants to crush them. They obviously didn’t have to raise their prices for lower quality food considering the upscale restaurants buy much high quality, more expensive food and charge almost the same price as the non upscale restaurants charge for their lower quality food. It was entirely self inflicted by a lack of common sense.
