In the early 2000s, a lot of women including Jessica Simpson were done severely dirty. The body shaming, the constant battles these women had to face everywhere they turned is astounding to me. I hope she found peace and most importantly I hope she understands that she’s more than enough.

For real though! In an episode of Ricky & Morty, Summer says to Beth, "b*tch, my generation gets traumatized for breakfast." Totally reminded me of watching MTV before school and Americas Next top model after. I don't know any millennial that *didn't* have an eating disorder at some point. Shelby and BJ talked about yellow and black pills given to the Biggest Loser contestants and I immediately yelled out "yellowjackets!" and got nostalgic. Fat shaming a PREGNANT woman is the dumbest thing. Putting on some weight during pregnancy is healthy and normal. The early-mid 2000s media really had nothing better to report about.
@Incrementium
@Incrementium Жыл бұрын
Yeah that always made zero sense, like as a guy when someone *doesn't* gain weight during a pregnancy that's when I think possible concern may be valid, but that is also something that just happens sometimes from what I understand. Like it's the kind of thing that is for the woman herself to consider and get checked out to ensure the pregnancy is progressing normally and healthily. But that's personal, the kind of stuff regular doctors check ups you should be getting during pregnancy would cover usually, and not what a normal person or magazine should be focused on. Edit: Sorry meant to say doesn't gain weight xD

The industry straved her, broke her down and threw her to the side when they were done with her. Howard Stern is disgusting, and his comments were way out of line. I had a morning show in the early 2000’s, and I was so naive going into it. It was my job to hunt down stories, and I was able to interview Britney Spears’s first husbands family. It was the one story I refused to air for the sake of the family, I didn’t want the info to get out and be harmful, they were such nice people. I’ve been around countless actors, musicians, politicians and sports stars, both Britney and Jessica were angels being used. Jessica deserves all her blessings right now, I’m glad God has given her happiness and success away from it all. ❤

Yes. However, before the reality show, Jessica was a very distant third behind Britney vs Christina. I have no recollection of the media talking about Jessica’s sx status. None. I remember a popular men’s magazine had a countdown until Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen turned 18 which is also inappropriate as hell. Avril Leavine got more attention than Jessica but that was only for a brief moment in time before everybody lost interest in Avril. Also Hilary Duff vs Lindsay Lohan started in the early 2000s but I would estimate they got only maybe 15% as much attention as B vs C. JLo and Bennifer got tons of attention until they broke up and the new “it girl” became Paris Hilton. Regardless, the media was awful about all of them.

I hate when people make comments like that about a young girl’s body. That must have been so mortifying! It’s not like she can help that she has a chest. She’s a woman. It happens. Sounds like they were pervs that were projecting their own feelings. It makes me so frustrated that adults make comments like that to kids. It’s so damaging. Especially if you grew up in the church. It just makes you feel disgusted with yourself and your body when you did nothing wrong. So messed up!! Marketing her virginity is also disgusting. That’s a private thing. If she wants to talk about it, that’s fine, but don’t make it a marketing scheme. Talking about it is her prerogative and the fact that people wanted to make money off of that is just gross.

I always felt that was so unfair to her. She was a sheltered pastor's daughter, for cripe's sake! Pastor's children, *especially* daughters, are generally shielded from so much of the mainstream. It shapes not only how they perceive the world, it lends itself to a very naive kind of thinking. It says chicken not only right on the label, it's part of the brand's name. Expecting progressive, "worldy" thinking from a young woman is going to lead to severe disappointment. Maybe she's neurodivergent, who knows? She asked an innocent question, and then so many people tormented her. She had the misfortune of not only marrying a misogynistic a-hole who bullied his own wife (bc that's how her father treated her, so she was brought up believing that was normal), he did it in all manner of public outlets, furthering her suffering. It looks like she's found her slice of happiness, and good for her. We should all be so lucky.

The media and front pages being covered in “Jessica Simpson letting herself go” I think one synapses said she was 130ibs and a size 4 and they were calling her fat. This destroyed me! It was The only time (besides Jon benay stuff because that was scary) that a tabloid had really affected me. I was 18 and already weighed 120ibs and it made me feel giant and fat and unattractive at 18 years old, and I was a size 7 and she was a size 4 and they were tearing her apart. It broke my heart for her and for myself. I literally broke up with a boy because people in school said I was the prettiest girl he dated because he usually dated fat girls and that made me feel fat. I’m 33 now and way more than 130 and I feel like I was so stupid because I was stunning and i’m still very pretty. If you ever do a video about Nick Lachey and his family, you should look into the fact that, between 2008 and 2010, Nick's parents sent his younger sister to a residential treatment facility in Gettysburg Pennsylvania where she was abused and witnessed a riot. She and I were at this residential treatment facility at the same time, and everyone knew that her family was rich and that her brother was a popstar, and none of us understood why they sent her to a hole-in-the-wall where children were abused constantly whenever they could actually access better treatment for her depression and other issues. I'm not saying that he had anything to do with it but he was famous and everyone knew that he was off living his best life while she was there with the rest of us. I'm pretty sure she was either in Zion or Emmanuel House, which were both known to be the "violent girl's house" and the "gross girl's house", respectively. If you dig enough into most of these celebrities pass you will find that they're all involved in some really fucked up shit or their parents were involved in really fucked up shit.

@@peachxtaehyungMaybe so but her father was well aware of the pressure put upon his daughter in the industry and he continued to push Jessica relentlessly. A loving caring parent would protect their child from greedy vampires like those in the entertainment industry. It wasn’t a secret back then, it just wasn’t discussed openly, and victims were silenced with hush money and threats. The trauma from such chaos, manipulation and abuse must be so severe. I hope she’s continued to persevere and heal…and find safe loving people to surround her.

The early 2000s were so bad for women. We all had eating disorders. It’s unbelievable that the media was allowed to say the things they did about women’s weight. To say celebrities are fair game for hate is so gross. They are saying it about all of us.

I’ve always liked Jessica Simpson as a person & an artist. I think considering how young she was and all what the industry, media, & even some “fans” put her through she handled it with as much grace & dignity as possible! She’s had monumental falls & thankfully more triumphant moments lately. I ❤ and respect that she never fully lost herself or her morals & values as a woman & a Christian too! I wish nothing but happiness for her & her family.

It’s so sick that we constantly scrutinize people just because they’re celebrities. And here I am watching this lol I always liked her though, in a relatable way. Not just having the same name, but her playing second fiddle. The oddball meddling father lol. The eating disorder. Her clothing line is nice too. And Christmas songs, beautiful! 😊Wishing her well!

I didn’t know there was a lag between her being signed and her debut album dropping. Christina is definitely an impossible act to follow. Jessica had a nice voice, but it never wowed me, even as a kid. And I’m pretty sure I had the sweet kisses album somehow?! Seeing the cover unlocked a fuzzy memory. But what’s strange to me is I hardly remember her at all other than being “not Britney, Christina, or P!nk”

I had the single of Christina, Genie in a bottle and the Mandy Moore album. I forgot all about her too, which is crazy to look back at now seeing how much she resembled Britney. I would've thought she'd have more success. Sickening how society pinned them all against each other in the 2000's.

The obsession with "purity" is insane. And telling a teenager that her breasts are "too big" is so damaging! Add to that all of the body- shaming. It's disgusting. Also, can we talk about the fact that John Mayer has never apologized for his public comments? (Finally, I have said many, MANY dumb things in my life. I'm very glad there were no cameras around. 😊)

I grew up in church and went to a “Christian” school. They will shame a woman over anything. You’re 14 and your shorts have to be to your knees and you have to wear a t shirt while swimming (how freakin uncomfortable is that?! You need the arms of Jesus to keep you from drowning once it gets wet) but boys can get by shirtless in swim trunks like a normal person 🤷‍♀️

@@skyegroome223 There's no shame in wanting to wait until marriage. It's the obsession with virginity, specifically girls' virginity, that is creepy. Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, and other young women were constantly grilled in the media about whether or not they were still virgins.

Jessica was very much bullied and mistreated in the media and personally by the people around her which led to her alcoholism. However I feel like it's not anywhere the same to being institutionalized against your will and forced to take high doses of lithium. They also isolated her away from any friends and her own children while also being heavily criticized in the media. Jessica fortunately did have the freedom to step away from it all and create her business and raise her family in peace.

@@SuperBubblyme true. I'm just saying... It's like missing persons cases; some captivate the entire nation... While others go unnoticed.
